March-April
City of Elgin
2023 Newsletter
April 4, 2023 Consolidated General Election Information
The Consolidated General Election will be held on April 4, 2023. This election
includes contests for city council seats, including the Mayor, library district
elected offices, school boards, and fire districts. Your ballot may look different
than other Elgin residents depending on the boundaries of the district in which
you reside. Find more information at cityofelgin.org/election.
Elgin residents who are registered to vote can apply to vote by mail, vote early,
or vote on Election Day at the designated polling place. Voting information and
locations also differ by county of residence.
For a complete list of important voting dates, deadlines, candidates, polling
places, registration information, and more, visit your county's elections website:
• Kane County: kanecountyclerk.org/elections
• Cook County: cookcountyclerkil.gov/elections
Voter registration
Not sure if you're properly registered to vote? Elgin residents can
check the Kane or Cook County election websites to verify their
information. The last day for regular voter registration is March 7.
However, you can still register to vote through the grace period. Find
more information about grace period records on your county
elections website.
Mail-in ballots
Ballots by mail are a safe and convenient option for residents to vote
in the upcoming election without
having to physically show up at a
polling place. If you want to vote
by mail ballot, you must request a
ballot online with your county and
make sure it is postmarked by
Election Day, April 4. The last day to
request a ballot by mail for Cook
and Kane counties is March 30.
Important Voting Information
Early voting
Early voting allows voters to cast their entire ballot before the observed
Election Day. Although voters can still go to their polling place on
Election Day, early voting is intended to make it easier for everyone to
vote. This reduces lines at the polling place on Election Day and allows
voters to vote when it fits their schedule.
Early voting takes place at assigned locations throughout Cook and
Kane counties. You can go to any of these designated locations to vote
early. Early voting does not take place at your regular polling place.
Polling places will only be open for voting on the observed Election
Day. Early voting takes place from March 20 to April 3 for Cook County
residents and from March 10 to April 3 for Kane County residents.
Voting on Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Find your
polling place at cityofelgin.org/pollingplace. .
Polls are open until 7:00 p.m. Same day registration
(grace period registration) is available at the polls.
For more information, visit cityofelgin.org/vote.
Hemmens Cultural Center Renovation
The proposed renovation and addition will modernize the Hemmens Cultural
Center. The planned improvements and amenities are designed to maintain the
building's continued recognition as a preeminent facility for performing arts. The
proposed building addition addresses the need for accessible restrooms on the
main floor, a more visible and accessible box office, a covered patron drop-off and
additional storage. A new reception area with an outdoor balcony designed in a
complimentary style to the building’s notable architecture showcases views of the
newly renovated Civic Center Plaza while also providing a new and much
requested amenity.
Originally constructed in 1969 as part of the
Civic Center Plaza, the Hemmens Cultural
Center has been hosting numerous national,
regional and local performing and
presenting organizations for over fifty years.
Boletín Informativo
de la Ciudad de Elgin
Marzo-Abril 2023
