Broad and Balanced... Y1 Class 1 are continuing to learn about the 7 Continents and last week our focus was on South America. They found out that football is the most popular sport in Brazil and that there are lots of very interesting animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest. The children made beautiful carnival masks and flags. This week we looked at North America and what the USA is like. The children learnt that it is called the United States because the country is split into 50 states. We looked at some famous landmarks: The Statue of Liberty, The White House and Mount Rushmore. This term in RE we are learning about Jewish celebrations and traditions. We learnt about the Shema prayer and the celebration of Hanukkah. The children made their Menorah candlesticks.
Broad and Balanced... Y2 Year 2 have really enjoyed learning about shape in Maths. As a part of their weekly challenges, the Year 2s had to sort 2D and 3D shapes as well as continuing patterns using 2D shapes. It has been brilliant to see them remembering so much of their learning and practising those skills during the challenges. They also started learning about money this week and we have been thoroughly impressed by how many coins the children recognised and how confident they have been at making amounts of money using notes and coins. In Art, the Year 2s have been getting to grips with digital art. They have learnt about some very famous artists and their different styles. On the Chrome books, they have had a go at creating different styles of art using a program called Auto Draw. Lots of them found this really tricky to start with but they have already developed their skills and are enjoying creating digital art. This week, they have tested out taking a photo and using it to create pop art. As a part of our topic, Year 2 have also been writing letters to Bob, the man on the moon. We have learnt a lot about his job from one of our class books and the children came up with questions that they would ask him about his work. In their letters, we were so impressed with the fantastic questions and how hard they worked on using the correct punctuation. Well done Year 2!
