Great Yorkshire / National Show - Judge Steve Nesbitt Olympian Takes the Gold at Yorkshire Judge: Steven Nesbitt The long-awaited National Charolais Show finally returned to the Great Yorkshire Show over the course of Tuesday 12 to Friday 15 July 2022. The Show formed part of the hugelyanticipated Charolais World Congress, with delegates from all over the world in attendance to view the spectacular animals on display. It was a remarkably close competition of Charolais animals, all expertly judged by Mr Steven Nesbitt of the Alwent herd in Darlington, Co. Durham. Taking the prestigious title of Supreme Charolais Champion was 4-yearold SEAWELL OLYMPIAN, bred and exhibited by P M & S M Donger of Towcester, Northamptonshire. Olympian had also secured the title of Male Champion earlier in the event. This impressive bull was sired by Maerdy Jumbuck, and his dam Seawell Ima goes back to former Nottinghamshire Interbreed Champion Maerdy Flambeau. In reserve to Olympian for both the Male Championship and the Supreme Charolais Championship was 6-year-old MAERDY MORWR, exhibited by AJR Farms of Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Morwr has enjoyed great success recently, having won Supreme Champion at the Royal Highland Show for the past 2 years, and at 2021’s Great Yorkshire Show. Morwr was sired by Maerdy Dynamite, and out of Maerdy Fee – a daughter of the French bull Victorieux. The event’s Female Championship was secured by another familiar name from recent shows: TOPHILL ROXANNE, exhibited by T Atkinson of Newland, Cumbria. Roxanne has previously won the titles of Female Champion and Reserve Overall Champion at the Royal Highland Show two years in a row, as well as Junior Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2021. Roxanne was bred by A Stott of Canonbie, Dumfriesshire, and was sired by Hackleton Largerlout. She is out of Hackleton Hetty, a daughter of the Irish-born Mulroog Alpine. Supreme Charolais champion and male champion Seawell Olympian Standing in reserve for the Female Championship was Junior Champion & Junior Female Champion: 20-monthold HARESTONE ROYALLADY. Royallady was bred and exhibited by R & N Barclay of Insch, Aberdeenshire, and has previously formed one half of the Pairs Championship at the Royal Highland Show earlier this Summer. Royallady is out of Harestone Julie, a daughter of the renowned Blelack Digger, and she was sired by the 40,000gns Maerdy Newman. Taking the titles of Reserve Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Female Champion was 17-monthold CROOKDAKE SUNRISE, bred and exhibited by D A & S M Miller of Wigton, Cumbria. This charming young heifer was sired by Sportsmans Linesman, a former Reserve Male Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2017, and her dam Crookdake Gypsy goes back to former Perth Junior Champion Tullygarley Alibaba. 18-month-old DRUMSHANE SCANIA from D H Knox in Colchester, Essex, took the title of Junior Male Champion.
