Aberdeen March Charolais maintains its reputation at Aberdeen Judge: Liam Muir Charolais bulls had a modest but high-quality presence at Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ Spring Sale of Pedigree Bulls on 2 March 2022. The sale saw 8 bulls find new homes, to an average price of £6,602 – an increase of £1601 over the previous year – and a 73% clearance. Securing the top price of the day, at 8,500gns, was 1st-in-class AULTMORE REPUTATION from the herd of W Patterson & Son of Keith, Banffshire. Reputation is out of Aultmore Lassie, a homebred daughter of Aultmore Gladiator, and was sired by the easycalving Blelack Immaculate. Reputation will be making the trip back to Forfar, Angus, under the care of winning bidder P Cooper & Son. The hammer came down twice for the next highest price of 7,000gns, firstly for the day’s Charolais and Overall Pedigree Champion ELGIN ROBOCOP. Robocop was bred by R A Milne of Elgin, Morayshire, and was sired by Caylers Noah. His dam is Elgin Megan, a daughter of the 11,000gns Woodpark Elgin. Taking the day’s Champion home is winning bidder J & J Henders of Dingwall, Ross-shire. Following close behind Robocop, also at a final price of 7,000gns, was the Reserve Charolais Champion ELRICK ROYAL, from M J Massie’s herd in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. This 23-monthold was sired by the French-born easy calver Maerdy Gouverneur, and his dam is Elrick Jackie – a daughter of the 16,000gns Thrunton Fearless. Royal caught the attention of J Anderson, who will be taking him home to their herd in Thurso, Caithness. Reaching a final price of 6,000gns was 2nd-in-class AUCHINCRIEVE RIVALDO, a 21-month-old from the herd of C M McCombie in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. Rivaldo is a homebred bull, sired by Auchincrieve Manhattan and out of Auchincrieve Instagram, a daughter of the 26,000gns Balbithan Vespasian. Rivaldo caught the eye of the day’s judge, W S L Muir, and will be joining him on the lengthy trip back to his holding in Stromness, Orkney. Two bulls managed to secure the next highest price of 5,800gns, the first of which was 22-month-old LETTOCH RINNES from C Stuart of Ballindalloch, Banffshire. Rinnes was sired by the 11,000gns Balthayock Imperial, and his dam is Lettoch Marci - a Killadeas Dwane daughter. Winning the bid this time was A K Strathdee, who will be introducing Rinnes to their herd in Buckie, Banffshire. Next to reach 5,800gns was INVERLOCHY ROMEO, a 21-monthold from the herd of J Irvine & Son of Ballindalloch, Banffshire. This strapping young lad was sired by the 12,000gns Caylers Napoleon, and he was born to Ballindalloch Nora, a daughter of the 11,000gns Blelack Giggsey. Like Rivaldo before him, Romeo will also be making the journey to Stromness, Orkney, to the herd of winning bidder W S L Muir. Coming in at the next highest price of 5,200gns was another from C M McCombie’s herd: AUCHINCRIEVE RONALDO. This 22-month-old was sired by the 10,000gns Mornity Nimbus, and his dam is Auchincrieve Marylou, a daughter of Olrig Highwayman. Taking Ronaldo home is winning bidder J Riddel & Co of Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Finally, selling for 5,000gns, was 21-month-old NEWLOGIE RENOWN from AJR Farms in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. This impressive young bull was sired by Maerdy Morwr, who claimed the title of Supreme Champion at both the Royal Highland Show and Great Yorkshire Show in 2021. His dam is Newlogie Ohdream, a daughter of French AI bull Univers-Ra. Renown will be joining Royal at his new home in Thurso, Caithness, courtesy of winning bidder J Anderson.
