The Final Round

Our revered Jerry Jerome, Sr. departed this life on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the Veteran’s Hospital Center in

Washington, D.C. He was born on July 12, 1949, to the late Charles O'Hagan Jerome and Essie Belle Johnson

Jerome.

He attended Grimke Elementary school, Shaw Junior High school and Cardozo Senior High school. After high

school, he we worked for the Washington Gas Company in DC until he was drafted into the United States Armed

Forces. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a teletype operator in the 82nd

Airborne infantry division. While in the military he joined the army boxing team. After leaving the military with

honors, Jerry attended The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) where he received his degree in

industrial, commercial and residential Real Estate.

Early in his boxing career, as heavyweight boxer, Jerry patterned himself in the style of Jack Johnson who was

his favorite athlete. He even competed in a tough man contest and won in Savannah, Georgia. As a champion in

his own right, the boxing community admired his coaching expertise. He was a trainer for more than 40 years,

but training his own sons filled his heart the most. The younger boxers were also like sons to him.

Yielding from a family of entrepreneurs, Jerry took the baton and pursued a successful business in property

management. He started his Real Estate career by purchasing his father’s barber shop. He was the president and

CEO of Jerome Management, Inc. on 9th Street Northwest in Washington, DC. His business career also included

purchasing the building next door to open his carpet and floor covering business. This expanded into his

construction and home renovation business in both DC and Maryland. His sister Doris also worked with him

and shared an office operating her insurance business. Many of his family members would either work or assist

him over the years in the family businesses.

Jerry was a beacon in the community. If you needed a job, he would employ you, if you needed a home, he would

house you. He was also a huge family man. Any opportunity he could get, he ensured he put his family first,

spending quality time at family gatherings sharing in good food, laughter, card games, and fun. If nothing else,

you knew he definitely made sure he had a good piece of hot fried chicken. He loved cheering on his Redskins,

listening to Motown hits, attending and watching boxing matches, and taking road trips to Atlantic City. Jerry

had a smile that would light up a room. He will forever be missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Earl Jerome, Butch Jerome, Terrell; 5 sisters, Charlene

Jerome Ellison, Arnita Jerome Handy, Doris Terrell Moore, Juanita Jerome Mack and Marjorie Jackson; sons

'King' Charles Jerome and Primo Jerome Parker. He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and absolute

love of his life, Cecelia Jerome. He also leaves to cherish sons Jerry Jerome, Jr. Jerome Jerome, William Jerome

(Danielle), Jordan Jerome (LaDonna), and J'Von Jerome of Washington, DC; special niece and goddaughter,

Ebony Ellison of Upper Marlboro, MD; 3 brothers, Henry Terrell (Diane) of Washington, DC; Charles Terrell of

Boston, MA, Harold Jerome of Washington, DC, 1 sister, Naomi Monk of Washington, DC; best friend Terry

Hosely of Washington, DC; Sandy Lee of Orlando, Florida a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, adopted

children; family and close friends.`
