Digitization is the process of converting information into a digital
(i.e. computer-readable) format. The result is the representation of
an object, image, sound, document, or signal (usually an analog
signal) obtained by generating a series of numbers that describe a
discrete set of points or samples.
The result is called digital representation or, more specifically, a
digital image, for the object, and digital form, for the signal.
This can involve creating digital copies of
physical objects or documents, automating
processes using computers or other digital
technologies, or developing new products
or services that are primarily delivered or
accessed through digital channels.
Digitalization can help organizations
become more efficient and effective by
streamlining operations, improving
communication and collaboration, and
providing new opportunities for
innovation. It can also have broader
societal impacts, such as increasing
access to education and information,
and supporting economic development.
