Edgewater Hotel. With amazing views of the Olympic Mountains, the
sparkling waters of Elliott Bay and breath-taking sunset views from
your room while still staying at one of the best downtown Seattle
hotels. Located near the cruise ship terminals, this Seattle hotel is in
the heart of downtown. You'll be within walking distance to the city's
favourite sites, but you just might decide to relax right in your
waterfront room, turn on the fireplace and relax in your tub. The
luxury Edgewater Hotel with stunning water view, has a perfect
location right on Pier 67, at the city's dynamic doorstep. The heart
and soul of Seattle is only steps away. This is Seattle luxury lodging,
with river-rock fireplaces and urban and wilderness landscapes just
outside your hotel window.
Day 3: Upon check-in for Norwegian Sun, you'll receive your first
issue of the Freestyle Daily, which details the day's activities and
special events and is a great way to get a feel for the ship. The
Freestyle Daily will be delivered to your stateroom every evening,
with info to help you plan the following day. Head to the pool deck,
then sit back and relax whilst your luggage is delivered to your
stateroom. Sip a cocktail or soft drink poolside as you sail out.
Day 4: During your first day at sea plan to have some me time and
perhaps break a sweat in gym or try an indoor cycling class.
Day 5: Sitka is a charming island community surrounded with
stunning mountain and seaside panoramic views. The vast and rich
wildlife boasts sightings of whales, brown bears, deer’s, sea otters,
and various birds flock here. This destination offers superb fishing,
and plentiful historical attractions.
Day 6: Get up close and personal with the gigantic Hubbard Glacier,
North America's largest tidewater glacier. It's 1350 square miles of
blue ice and one of the most active in Alaska.
Day 7: In a single year from 1896 to 1897, this remote town along the
Inside Passage grew from a few tents to a city of 20,000 gold
seekers. Today, travellers come in search of other riches - to
experience yesteryear along Skagway's charming boardwalk lined
with buildings that replicate those Gold Rush days.
Day 8: During your second sea day unwind your mind and body with
a speciality treatment in the Spa or just simply inhale, exhale and be
well.
Day 9: Juneau has been called “Alaska's peak experience,” certainly
due in part to its unparalleled glacier viewing from such places as
Tracy Arm Fjord, the Juneau Icefields and Glacier Bay National Park.
Kayak up one of the area's many protected waterways, go
flightseeing, tour historic downtown or try your hand at panning for
gold. The majestic Mendenhall Glacier lies nearly 12 miles outside
Juneau, a treck worthwhile.
Day 10: Venture “where the north wind doesn’t blow.” Known for this
famous saying, Icy Strait Point is the ideal landing spot for
adventurers seeking a new experience. Breath-taking and exciting,
Icy Strait Point truly takes you where the wild things are. It’s one of
the few places in the world where wildlife outnumbers the human
population.
Day 11: This is why visitors come to Alaska-to see glaciers as
magnificent as Dawes-and getting there is half the excitement. From
Stephens Passage, your ship will turn into the glacially carved fjord
of Endicott Arm, the southern sister fjord to Tracy. However, Endicott
is special. It's the fjord less travelled, and at its head, Dawes Glacier.
But first, the 31-mile fjord. Sheer granite walls. Plunging waterfalls.
Spruce and hemlock trees clinging to the steep sides. It is the
definition of pristine. Look for "bergy bits," floating chunks of glacial
ice, some looking more like sculptures, some with resting seals on
top. Keep an eye open for bears, mountain goats and whales, too. As
we approach the glacier, listen for thunderous cracks and have your
camera ready. Dawes is an active tidewater glacier that recedes daily
causing calving, where huge hunks of ice plunge into the sea. At 600
feet tall and a half-mile wide, this blue-hued, powerful glacier may be
the highlight of your Alaska cruise.
Day 12: Its Tlingit Indian name, Kach Khanna, means "spread wings of
the eagle." Chances are you'll see one of these magnificent birds
perched atop a Sitka tree. Thanks to its abundant rainfall, Ketchikan
is surrounded by some of the world's most lush wilderness.
Day 13: Victoria, capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy
southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s
known for outdoor activities. Roam the spacious lawns of stunning
Butchart Gardens with its exotic flora, unusual topiary and exquisite
fountains. Explore historic Bastion Square, the treasures of
Chinatown and the many sights and sounds to be found along the
boardwalk of the Inner Harbour.
Day 14: Disembark Norwegian Sun in Seattle and fly back to Ireland
and when you finally get back home, look on the bright side: it’s just
time to begin planning your next cruise!
