"City of Palo Alto." Mailed in registration is not guaranteed and available on a first come, first served
basis. Payment via mail must be via check.

Frequently Asked Questions:
I don't live in Palo Alto. Can I still register for
Enjoy! programs?
Yes! Everyone is welcome to participate. Palo Alto
residents and children enrolled in a PAUSD school
receive priority registration dates as well as the resident
discount rate as shown in the Enjoy! Palo Alto catalog.
What happens if I am "waitlisted" for a course?
If the course you are hoping to register for is full, you will
be placed on the "waitlist." No payment is necessary
when joining a waiting list. As space becomes available,
waitlisted participants will be contacted via email and
have 24 hours to enroll in the course. If we do not hear
from you in that time, we will move onto the next person.
How do I read the program listing?
Why does my child have to be a certain age or
grade level in order to register for some courses?
In order to ensure the best experience possible for all
participants, each Enjoy! course if tailored to specific
ages or grade levels. Each course in the Enjoy! lists the
age or grade level requirements. Registrants must meet
these requirements prior to the first class meeting.
Are there any other discounts available?
The City of Palo Alto offers Palo Alto youth, adults, PAUSD
students, adults aged 60+ years, and disabled residents
the opportunity to apply for our Fee Reduction Program
based on household income. Those who qualify receive a
25% or a 50% discount on courses. This discount is valid
for 1 year and capped at $150 for adults, or $300 for
youth, adults aged 60+, and disabled residents.
Reductions are only applicable to new registrations. For

I'm a member of the Art Center Foundation. Does
that qualify me for a discount?
Yes! Select members of the Art Center Foundation qualify
for one studio course per Foundation membership per
year. Call 650.329.2366 for more information.
When do I pay for courses?
All courses require payment at the time of registration.
We accept cash, personal checks (made payable to City
of Palo Alto), MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and
Discover.

Withdraw, Transfer,
and Cancellation Policy
All transfer and withdrawal requests need to be received in writing within the time frames
provided below. Email is encouraged and can be sent to EnjoyOnline@cityofpaloalto.org
Mailed requests must be delivered prior to the end of the allotted time frame and can be
sent to:

Summer Camp Policies:
WITHDRAWAL POLICY: Families will have until Monday at noon 2 weeks
prior to the start date of the camp to withdraw and receive a refund. As with
our seasonal withdrawal fee, the customer will have the option to receive the
entire camp fee as credit on their account or pay a $15 processing fee per
camp, per child, for a refund to their credit card. Withdrawals received less
than 2 weeks prior to the start date will not receive a refund.
TRANSFERS: Families will have until Monday at noon 2 weeks prior to the
first day of camp to transfer to another program. Transfers are always subject
to space availability and the customer is responsible for any additional
program fees.
CANCELLATIONS: Refunds for camps that have been cancelled by the City
are always 100% refundable.

WAIVER
WAIVER: All classes require the signature of each registering adult or parent or guardian of any minor(s).
I give permission to participate in the following programs, including any associated travel sponsored by the City of
Palo Alto Community Services Department, for myself and/or child as named. In consideration for participation in
the programs, I agree to the following: I understand that participating in the programs is a voluntary activity that I
am choosing to participate in and is not required. I understand that there are inherent risks in participating in the
programs which may be both foreseen and unforeseen and include illness, physical injury and death.
I understand that there is a coronavirus pandemic in effect, that the City will provide the programs in compliance
with state and local health guidelines. I understand that even when operating under such guidelines, there is still a
risk of and being infected by coronavirus. I understand that participants may be required to use safety gear
consistent with such guidelines, including, without limitation, face coverings and hand sanitizer, and will be
required to follow guidelines related to social distancing, possible exposure, quarantine, and other safety
protocols. I understand that there are individuals who may be medically exempt from wearing a mask or face
covering throughout the class. I agree that participants must be symptom free (no coughing or fever) in order to
participate in the program Additionally, I agree to ASSUME ALL RISKS of participating in the programs. I agree to
DISCHARGE AND RELEASE (agreeing to make no claim and not to sue) and HOLD HARMLESS the City of Palo Alto,
its employees, its agents, its independent contractors, and volunteers working for the City, from any and all
liability for injury suffered by me or my child arising from or connected with these programs. I understand and
agree that this ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK, DISCHARGE AND RELEASE, AND HOLD HARMLESS includes any claims
relating to the actions, omissions, or negligence of the City, its employees, agents, independent contractors, and
volunteers.
If participant’s family member or someone in close contact with the participant (outside of this program) tests
positive for COVID-19, or if participant tests positive for COVID-19, I give permission for the City to notify other
people in contact with the participant (including other program participants, staff, and volunteers) that they may
have been exposed to COVID-19. In doing so, the City shall not identify the participant or their family by name
except as required by government mandates.

Ceramics for Kids
Campers will spend two weeks transforming clay into
decorative and sometimes useful objects. Campers
will learn pinching, coiling, and slab building—the
three main construction techniques for clay—as well as
decorative and glazing techniques in order to bring their
ideas to life. Our professional ceramics artists will share
tips and tricks for working with clay—all in a fun and
creative environment.

Teen Ceramics Apprenticeship
Teen Ceramics Apprentices will volunteer for a minimum
of two hours a week for the current camp session at the Art
Center. Shifts will overlap with ceramics camps for all ages.
Volunteer tasks include maintaining the ceramics studio,
organizing supplies and work, working with the kiln, assisting
with lesson planning, classroom management, and working
closely with Art Center ceramics instructors.
Ceramics Apprentices will have access to the ceramics studio
during set hours for their own artmaking purposes during
their apprenticeship. Candidates for this role must have two
years of ceramics experience in Art Center classes or
instructor approval and be at least 16 years of age.
This extension of the Art Center’s ceramics program is a great
way to earn service hours, develop leadership skills, have fun
in a creative environment, and build a portfolio.
Apprentices must attend one training session (date to be
determined based on availability).

Art Center CIT/LCIT
Summer Camp Counselors in Training (CIT) are volunteers (12-18 years old) who assist professional art instructors in
the day-to-day running of the Children’s Fine Art summer camps. CITs offer support through classroom management,
encouraging campers, prepping art supplies and more. This is a great way to earn service hours, develop and strengthen
leadership skills, and have fun in a creative environment. CITs volunteer for two full weeks of camp, choosing a morning
or afternoon session (see information sheet for schedule and times).
The Lead Counselor in Training (LCIT) program builds on your experience as an Art Center CIT and provides opportunities
for you to help with CIT training, enjoy mentorship from college Children’s Fine Art (CFA) interns, manage camper
recreation, and take responsibility as the LCIT for one two week long session of camp. The morning LCIT shift is from 8:30
a.m. to 1 p.m. every day; this includes the morning camp, camper lunch, and the 12:30-1 p.m. transition to
afternoon camps. The afternoon LCIT shift is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day; this includes camper lunch, the 12:30-1
p.m. transition to afternoon camps, and afternoon camps. LCITs should expect to earn 45 hours of service. Instead of
focusing on one camp, LCITs circulate amongst the different camps during their assignment and act as mentors to the
CITs. See information sheet for schedule and times.
LCITs are self-starters who demonstrate excellent communication skills, inclusive leadership, and strong classroom
management skills. 8 LCITs will be selected (one morning and one afternoon LCIT for each camp session). Applications
will be reviewed by the Education Department and applicants will be notified by mid-April.
Orientation is required and will be held 1 HOUR BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP for the shift (new this year!).
Participation in the orientation is mandatory. Even if you have volunteered previous summers, you must attend
orientation. No exceptions can be made. Registration for everyone opens on February 16, 2023.

Mitchell Park & Foothills Nature
Preserve CIT Program
With an emphasis on service, initiative, and leadership,
the City of Palo Alto Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program
provides an opportunity for teens ages 13 and 14 to take
a lead in our historic summer camps. CITs are mentored
by camp staff to build leadership skills, gain experience,
and earn community service hours. CITs will get a
similar work experience as do Palo Alto
part-time staff, complete with training and held to the
same standards, though on a volunteer basis. A great
way to gain valuable skills to add to your resumes and
college applications!
Please note that CITs must complete an application and
interview to participate in this program. Upon
completion of a successful interview, CITs will be
provided instructions to complete registration.

Camp Rinconada
Campers will learn to swim or work on stroke
development during their 30 minute daily swim lesson. A
child’s swim level is assessed on the first day of camp
and campers with similar abilities are grouped together.
More advanced swimmers get a workout-style swim
session in a 25-yard format to practice their strokes.
Beginner swimmers will feature daily hands-on lessons in
small focused groups that will invariably lead to rapid
advancement in a child’s swim skills. In addition to swim
instruction, campers have daily swim-related workouts,
free swim, time for land and camp games, crafts, and a
snack. Every Friday we will have “Fun Fridays” that
feature music and an extra special group event.
For ages 7 to 12 years (on the first day of camp).
Camp is for kids who are comfortable in the water, enjoy
social group situations, and respond well to instruction
Camp Rinconada Jr Guard

Gear up for our Junior Lifeguard Challenge! Your body and
mind will be tested as you work together as a unified team.
Learn how to save lives on land and in water. Learn rescue
skills, communication skills, strength training and fitness. Grab
a friend and get ready! Limited to 12 participants each week.
Learn how to respond to emergencies in and around the water.
Campers will receive instruction on how to perform life saving
CPR, various water rescues for active and inactive victims, and
how to render basic first aid. All skills are taught by
experienced Palo Alto Swim and Sport Lifeguards in a safe,
fun, and challenging scenario-based format as individuals and
in small groups working together.
Prerequisites:
Age 9 – 14 (by the first day of camp)
Demonstrate continuous 75 yards of freestyle with side
breathing
Tread water for one minute
Submerge and swim 10 feet under water
Camp Rinconada Junior Swim
&Tennis
We are proud to introduce children to 2 lifelong sports in 1
camp.
Campers will receive a daily hands-on swim lesson which
will introduce the basics of swimming such as body balance,
floating, kicking and breath control and submersion. Stroke
development will be introduced when applicable. We will
also present
Pre-Beginner tennis as a perfect way for younger children to
develop gross motor skills and athleticism through the sport
of tennis in a fun, yet structured environment. Your child will
learn teamwork and how to cooperate and succeed in a
small group dynamic.
Highlights of Camp:
Students develop motor skills and coordination
Structured lesson plans taught in a fun environment
Basic ball skills and introduction to tennis core strokes
Teaching techniques were developed in collaboration
with child development specialists
For ages 5 to 7 years (on the first day of camp)
Camp is for kids who are new to swimming and tennis, or
kids who are just getting comfortable with ground strokes,
volleys and serves. Campers should enjoy social group
situations, and respond well to instruction.

Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport
in a fun, recreational environment. Learn and practice
core soccer skills like dribbling, passing & receiving,

In partnership with Wheel Kids Bicycle Club, Inc. and the City of Palo Alto’s Safe Routes to School Program, the
Middle School Bike Skills Class League of American Bicyclists League Cycling Instructors (LCI) will help students
develop the confidence and skillset needed to safely ride to school and beyond.
The half day class covers:
basic traffic laws
busy intersections
how to avoid the most common types of bike crashes
how to position yourself on the road
communicating with drivers
proper hand signals for cyclists
basic bike & helmet fitting
This is not a ‘learn how to ride bike class’. Participating riders should already know how to start independently &
safely stop using their brakes, ride in a straight line for at least 50 feet, and ride
one-handed for a short distance. Each student must have one parent/guardian attend to observe and participate in
the entire class.
Students and parents/guardians must also bring a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)-compliant
helmet and a WELL-OPERATING BIKE that is safe to ride.
