Last year, I wrote that the focus on sustainability is here to stay. 

That belief has only grown stronger, despite all the uncertainties we 

face today. The task of achieving sustainability has become greater 

but not easier, requiring us to make additional efforts.

Buzzy ® Organic Seeds 

Last year, we introduced the new layout of our Buzzy Organic Seeds, 

with 136 varieties of organic seeds in eye-catching, sustainable 

packaging. Our bio-based packaging is made of organic fibres derived 

from residual material from Westland tomato plants and FSC paper. 

In addition to the SKAL & FSC certification, the packaging is now 

officially recognised as suitable for recycling and can be disposed of 

with the waste paper after use. This is indicated on the back of the 

packaging with the familiar recycle logo. 

Buzzy ® for a beautiful end result 

The packaging of all Buzzy Grow Gifts has been revamped and 

improved to make them even more appealing to our growing 

audience showing interest in growing and harvesting. Our 6-in-1 

packs are a nice addition to the product range this year, each with

Beans, legumes and spinach are available in boxes. These economy packs 

can be ordered in 50, 100 and 250 grams. The 250 g box is the cheapest 

per gram and is suitable for longer storage or sowing larger areas at a more 

favourable price. Bags of 10, 15 and 25 grams can be ordered for smaller 

areas. 

The 50 to 100 g boxes feature a eurolock label for hanging in your display.

Beans are great in the garden! They climb up 

along sticks or racks at lightning speed and often 

bloom with fun little flowers. If you do not have 

room for climbers, opt for bush beans, which do 

not need poles to grow on. 

Flat beans 

Flat beans have broad, flat pods that release a wonderfully rich aroma when 

cut open. Bush bean varieties allow you to grow flat beans in a small garden. 

Beans are best sown from mid-May to late July. If you want to start 

earlier, you can pre-sprout the beans in small pots indoors. You can 

then plant them out right after the last frost. Never plant beans in the 

open ground before the last frost (11–15 May), as they are native to 

subtropical regions and cannot tolerate cold weather. Germination 

requires a temperature of at least 15 to 20 degrees. Planting the beans in 

warm, humid weather makes them likely to germinate faster and reduces 

the risk of fungal infection. Beans usually germinate within 14 days; the 

longer the germination takes, the more time the soil fungi have to attack 

the bean. 

Beans and nitrogen 

Mix a generous amount of compost or soil conditioner through the 

soil where you are going to plant your beans. This will be enough for 

the beans throughout the season. Beans extract nitrogen from the air 

and store it in their roots. This creates nodules on the roots, so don’t be 

alarmed if you see all kinds of nodules when you uproot the plants at the 

end of the season—it’s a good sign. Nitrogen nodules release nitrogen 

into the soil, so you can plant demanding vegetables such as cabbage 

crops in this spot the following year.

A summer of fun 

Annuals are plants that, after sowing, produce 

flowers in the same year. After flowering, they 

form seeds and die. Their entire life cycle takes 

place within one year. They are not frost 

tolerant. Sometimes, if you are lucky, they will 

spread; the following year (after a mild winter), 

you will suddenly see a cheerful flower emerge 

in a different spot. 

Limonium sinuatum - (Statice) 

Limonium statice sinuatum is also known 

as common sea-lavender. These annuals 

with remarkable stems flower all summer 

and are excellent for drying. They make 

an excellent bedding plant in borders, 

pots and rock gardens. The plants attract 

bees and butterflies and are available in 

a variety of vibrant colours.

Buzzy zinnia’s 

Our product range has been expanded with new 

zinnia varieties. These colourful annual summer 

flowers are a must for any picking garden. Zinnias 

come in many different colours and are easy to 

grow. Start in a seedbed in a greenhouse or seed tray 

indoors in March–April, transplant in early May. You 

can also sow them directly in their intended location 

after the last frost. Zinnias continue to bloom for a
