1972 Mach 1
Car owner: Dan Matthews
Car: 1972 Mustang Mach 1
We decided to do this photoshoot at the place where the car was restored, at Dan’s
shop out in the country.
Dan Matthews is the proud owner of this georgous 1972 Mustang Mach 1. He has
been a certified Ford mechanic since 1970 and has always enjoyed working on cars and
trucks. When Dan came across this classic, it was only a car body. It was for sale at an
establishment in Independence Missouri - Mustang Plus. Dan bought the Mach 1 from
them in 2007 and trailered it back to his place where the restoration was done. It took
him about two years to do the restoration due to the fact that it was a complete rebuild
to the original specs of a 1972 Mustang Mach 1. He did do a few upgrades of the engine
when rebuilding, One was to make it have the horse power of the 1970 351 Cleveland. He
also installed a 4-speed transmission in the car as well. The restoration was done on a
shop rotisserie at Dan’s shop. Dan is the one who did almost all of the restoration to this
car other then the interior. The interior was installed by Bob Gosley, which was a special
order interior to match the color of paint that Dan had chosen for the car. The first showing
of this 1972 Mustang Mach 1 was in 2009 at the World of Wheels Car show in Kansas
City.
1970 351 CONVERTIBLE
Car owner: Vicki & John Holmgren
Car: 1970 Ford Mustang convertable
We decided to do this photoshoot at Wyandotte County Lake, at the boat ramp parking
area. This Lake is the perfect location for many amazing shots of vechicles.
Vicki and John are the proud owners of this beautiful 1970 Ford Mustang convertible.
They bought this car about 5 years ago in 2017. They are the 4th owners of this Mustang.
This car was originally purchased by it’s first owner in Denver Colorado. Throughout the
years it made it’s way to Missouri with the 3rd owners of the car. When Vicki and John
found the Mustang to purchase it, it had not be driven for many years. They found out
that the car was for sale from an advertisement on their local Greater Kansas City Mustang
Club forum. This specific Mustang is one of 14 models that have the shaker hood
and color combination with a white convertible top. The Holmgrens have always had a
love for cars from a very young age. This car is Vicki’s Mustang.
In 1970 there were only 379 convertibles built with the 4V 351 Cleveland/automatic
combination. Thirty two more were built with a three-speed manual transmission plus
another 171 with a four-speed manual transmission. Also in 1970 early production is
when they offered the bigger 351W (WINDSOR) V8 engines putting out more horsepower
than previous years. Ford believed that the dual head lamp style of the 1969 Mustang
was too aggressive so they decided to restyle and return to the single head lamps which
were moved to the inside of the grille opening with “fins” on the outside of the grill sides.
They also restyled the rear of the car by making the taillight panel flat and recessed instead
of raised and convex.
1967 FASTBACK
Car owner: George Powell
Car: 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback
We decided to do this photoshoot at Wyndotte County Lake at the Boathouse pavilion
area. Beautiful Lake views and the fall colors are amazing.
George is the proud owner of this georgous 1967 Mustang Fastback. He heard about
this car being for sale from his dentist. The dentist’s father in law owned it and had been
storing it in his basement in pieces for many many years. The dentists father in law was
planning on restoring the car over the years thats why it was in pieces but now he was
wanting to retire. The car had been apart for about 30 years. When George bought the
Mustang he had to make two trips with a trailer and also using a flat bed for the carcus
of the car. He began doing a 9 month restoration of the Mustang in October of 2014 and
had it completed by July 2015 the following year During the restoration, they completely
stripped the carcus of the car down to the bare metal and saw there was no rust or bondo
on the car! Nancy- George’s wife really liked the car and she is the one who picked
out the paint color for it, which is dark sterling metalic gray with black hood insets.
George wasn’t going to buy the Mustang at first because of how much work that needed
to be done to the car but now he is so glad that he bought it!
George has worked on restoring eighteen different kinds of makes and models of cars
over the years. He has a huge passion for the older cars and loves what he does to keep
them on the road for all of us to see and enjoy! He is also a member of a couple of car
clubs - Leavenworth Cruisers and Greater Kansas City Mustang Club.
1973 302 CONVERTIBLE
Car owner: Dan Matthews
Car: 1973 Mustang Convertible
This photoshoot was also done at the location where this Mustang was restored. Location
is at the shop in Smithville, Missouri.
Dan Matthews is the proud owner of this 1973 Mustang convertible. He purchased this
car from its original owner in 2000, that was from Smithville Missouri. The car had been
parked in a barn since about 1979. Dan went to buy the car and found it was still in the
barn and hadn’t been touched in many years. He trailered the Mustang back to his shop
on his property. Dan didn’t start the restoration on the car till about 2007 since he was
working on other projects. The total restoration took about 5 or 6 years. Dan remembers
getting the car completed and was on his way to his first show since the restoration at
Kansas Speedway, when the engine blew up. The engine was a 429, which broke a rod.
He was not able to find a wrecker to tow the car so he drove it back home. That is when
he decided to rebuild the original 302 and install it back into the car. The first show he
attended after the engine swap was the Ottawa, Kansas show in 2013.
The year 1973 marked the last year of the first generation Mustangs. 1974 would see a
completely redesigned smaller and more fuel-efficient Mustang.
The convertible was touted by Ford as the “lowest priced U.S.-built convertible in the
personal sporty car field.” It was also the only convertible built by Ford that year and
would be the last Mustang convertible available until 1983.
To anyone interested this car is for sale!
There were a few exterior
changes were
made from the 1971
and ’72 styles, the
1973 Mustang was
distinctive because
of its standard honeycomb
style grille
(that differed from
the Mach I’s honeycomb
grille) that
included imbedded,
vertical turn signals.
The engine was restored
to the original
302
but upgraded to high
compression pistons,
4 barrel carb, electronic
ignition, late
model transmission
with overdrive,
ram air hood, wing,
damper and 9” 3 to 1
posi rear end.
This convertible
continued a trend
that began in
1972, Production
of the convertible
was up again to
11,853, higher than
the base fastback
model for the first
time since 1966. As
mentioned before,
the upswing could
have been due to
the Mustang being
the only Ford line
with a convertible
option that year, or
that it was the last
year until the early
1980s that a Mustang
convertible
would be offered.
The interior was
complletely restored
to its orginal
look. Dan ordered
the complete package
for the Mustang
to give it the
classic look that it
deserved.
2007 Vortech PREMIUM
Car owner: George Powell
Car: 2007 Ford Mustang Vortech Edition Premium Coupe w/ Pony Package
We decided to do this photoshoot at Wyndotte County Lake. The shoot was at shelter
#6 off of West Dr. Beautiful back drop for this Ford Mustang.
George Powell is the proud owner of this georgous 2007 Mustang Vortech Edition. He
was online looking in early 2015 for another car to add to his collection when he came
across this car for sale at a Jaguar dealership in Florida. At that time he was originally
looking for a mustang totally different from this one, however this car caught his attention.
He was in constant contact with the dealership and made sure he recieved all of
the information on the car and looked at over 35 pictures of it before he made the purchase.
He then had the car shipped to him in Kansas. This Mustang was built by a company
in Florida called Precision MotorWorks LLC. They kept the original engine in the car
but added the Vortech Supercharger along with all of the other upgrades the car needed
for it to become a track car. The original owner had purchased it for the track to do time
trials against himself. When he recieved the Mustang, there was a folder with it that was
about 3 inches thick with all of the modifications and maintenance that had been done
to the car. So with George being the second owner, he took it to a local dealership and
had the car checked out for any maintenance and warrenty work that would need to be
done. He also had them tune it for him so he could drive it on the streets. This Mustang
is one of maybe 500 that were modified to a Vortech Edition. Some of them were modified
for the streets and some for the track. George started showing this Mustang in 2016.
Vortech
systems deliver
more horsepower
than virtually any
other method
of upgrade. This
car’s Dyno test results
were 495hp
with 500#/ft of
torque with a top
speed of 185mph.
The rims the are
American Racing
rims with cooper
touring tires.
The interior of this
mustang use to be
black with ivory
stripes with a little
bit of red. The ivory
stripes matched the
exterior stripes on
the car. The exterior
stripes were pealing
and could not be
recreated because
they were no longer
available in the ivory
color. That is when
George decided to
change the exerior
and also had the
interior done to the
classic black in color.
This car is 187.6 in in
length 74 in in width
