the next generation Janou Hendrix talks taking over the reins Being in the spotlight is usually something Janou Hendrix shies away from. But with her nephew Timothy and her brother Michel featuring in previous editions of this magazine, there really was no way around taking the stage in this Next Generation feature. Even though the work Janou handles for the family business is largely behind the scenes, it is impressive to say the least. “Working together with my family is something I am very proud of. Sure, it also comes with its challenges, but I love a good challenge”, Janou begins to tell with a smile. Growing up on the family yard Janou naturally starting riding at a young age. “I remember the pony shows we attended with great fondness. I was also quite competitive. But I never imagined myself being a professional rider. I did not really know what type of a career path would suit me when I was younger”, Janou looks back. “I just knew I loved going to and taking part in events and being part of the horse industry. In that sense my job now is still doing what I love. But I did not want to be part of the family business right from the start. It took me a while and I am grateful for the lessons I learned along the way.” Passion for sports Janou studied Sports Marketing and after gaining her bachelor’s degree she did a master’s in Business Communications. “I really enjoyed my studies, and I gained amazing work experience during internships at Carlsberg - though the Haelterman family of Haras de Laubry - and at football club Atlético Madrid. The latter really fired my passion for sports marketing and events. I intended to work abroad after my studies, but a job opportunity closer to home came up in the banking world.
