Jack Verstappen:
“The Limburg Foal Auction is an annual highlight”
Breeder Jack Verstappen has been a regular contributor to the Limburg Foal Auction for years. He
has built up a successful damline with the Grand Prix mare Especiale and his foals are always in
great demand. During this year’s edition, foals from the passionate Limburg breeder were sold for
good prices and the Limburg Foal Auction has developed into an annual highlight for Jack and his
wife Lilian over the years.

During the 22nd edition of the Limburg
Foal Auction, the majority of the breeders
returned home with a good feeling as the
unprecedented number of 81 jumping
foals has achieved an average price of more
than €10,600. The top price of €33,500 was
achieved by the Tokyo du Soleil colt Soleil
Especiale, one of four well paid foals out
of the breeding of Jack Verstappen and his
wife Lilian Walenbergh.
Gratification
It was not the first time for Jack and Lilian
to have bred the top seller at the Limburg
Foal Auction. Three years ago, they had
a very successful night when the Zirocco
Blue VDL daughter Online Especiale left
for the United States for €36,000. “We have
been breeding about three to five foals in
recent years. Since 2009 we sell some foals
through auctions and except for two foals,
all the others have been sold in the Limburg
Foal Auction. The formula of this auction
suits us well and the foals often end up with
people where they will have opportunities
in the sport. That is very important to us
as breeders and that’s why we only offer
foals in this auction nowadays,” tells Jack
Verstappen, who started breeding in the
early 1990s. “The Limburg Foal Auction is
an annual highlight for us, which we work
towards every year. It starts
with the choice for the right
stallion and then we try to
do everything we can to
present the foals in optimal
condition at the auction. It
involves quite a bit of work,
but fortunately also gives a
lot of satisfaction. Especially
with the results of recent
years”, his wife Lilian adds.
“We feel at home at the
Limburg Foal Auction and
especially from the moment
that the auction has made
the decision to continue with jumping
foals only, very good prices and sales
percentages are achieved.”
Grand Prix mares
The foundation for Verstappen’s breeding
was laid with two mares, who both
performed at the highest level with Eric
