Frequently Asked Questions....
The sizes shown are not suitable for our space. Can we adapt the designs?
every Finesse fireplace is hand carved to order, so design changes are very easily made. All designs can
be made wider or taller to suit your space. We work with you to create your perfect fireplace in the
dimensions best suited to you. A scale drawing will be provided showing size alterations prior to carving.
We also encourage our customers to commission their own design ideas. please refer to our service
sheet for further details.
Are the fireplaces suitable for solid fuel?
Yes, all our fireplaces are suitable for solid fuel as well as gas and electric fires. The stone fireplace will
be designed accordingly to fit around your choice.
The colour of the stone varies and there are subtle marks and veins. Is this normal?
natural Bath stone is a 150 million year old crushed seabed. The subtle marks are fossilised seashells
and the veins are calcite crystals. This is entirely normal and gives the stone huge amounts of character.
How do we install the fireplace?
A full installation service is available. please refer to our service sheet for further details of this.
Alternatively, a competent builder or good DiY expert can install your fireplace. if you would like to
arrange installation yourself, a fixing kit of brackets, matching mortar and a fixing method will be
provided. We are happy to offer advice whichever decision you make.
What are slips and back panels?
slips or back panels are the stones used to cover the area between the opening and the internal sizes
of the fire surround. For example, the ‘Tudor Dart’ fireplace has slips to reduce the opening, whereas
the ‘Richmond Tall’ has no slips at all.

We are happy to provide expertise and technical advice free of charge throughout the whole creation process,
as part of our personal service. With stonemasonry having been in our family for over five generations, you
can be assured of the highest level of guidance and quality.
Choosing your design - ‘Tailored just for you’
Made to Measure: All the fireplaces featured in the brochure are made to measure and so the sizes shown are
to be used as a general guide only. All designs can be made wider or taller to suit your space. Unless greatly
enlarged, size alterations rarely make a difference to the price. The designs can also be mixed and matched, by
changing the shelf style for example.
Bespoke: We also encourage our customers to commission their own ideas. neil Gray, the proprietor, takes
great pleasure in working with you to turn your ideas into reality; creating your very own fireplace that’s not
only unique and individual to you but fits in perfectly with the style of home. he then carves your fireplace
personally. so, if the designs in the brochure are not what you’re looking for then please contact us with your
ideas. We have created many bespoke fireplaces. Anything can be carved in stone and we love a new challenge.
sketches, photographs, or even a picture in your minds eye can be made into your dream fireplace.
Costing and Site Surveys
site visits can be arranged to offer advice and take the measurements required for the final quotation. All the
prices featured include the hearths and back panels. There are no additional costs, other than the optional
installation and delivery service, as explained below.
Installation
A full installation service is available. Costs start from £300, depending on the style of fireplace and location
of the site. Alternatively, a competent builder with a fixing kit of brackets and lime mortar can also install
your fireplace.
Delivery
To ensure your handcrafted fireplace arrives safely and in the same quality it left the workshops, we prefer to
deliver ourselves. if we are installing your product then no delivery charge will apply. local deliveries are also
free. A delivery charge will apply to nationwide deliveries. Costs start from £50 and are dependant on location.
