(Pasteur, 2009). Literature highlights that the success of these adaptation efforts generally
hinges upon the nature of existing formal and informal rural institutions. Mubaya et al, 2017
reported that significant efforts have been made to understand impacts and how communities
adapt to climate change impacts, yet there is an urgent need to interrogate the capacity of
institutions and institutional arrangements in local level adaptation processes. Hence improving
climate resilience among rural households in various agricultural systems requires the
collective action at grassroots level as a localized solution to tackle vagaries of climate
extremes.
It is in this backdrop; suitable strategies are deployed for adaptation and resilience to climate
change at grassroots level and to enhance coping ability of farming communities under the
technology demonstration component of NICRA project implemented by ICAR-CRIDA.
Social interventions like creation of VCRMC, Village Climatic risk Management committee at
the NICRA villages of KVK are envisaged to have inclusive approach for facilitating
community participation, capacity improvement to take up climate adaptation plans.
Objectives
Accordingly, the study to analyze the Institutional processes has taken up with the
following objectives.
To analyze the VCRMCS structure and composition across the NICRA- technology
demonstration component villages
To delineate the functional processes of VCRMCs operation across ATARIs.
Results
VCRMC is intended to promote community’s partnership accountability and responsibility for
the climate resilient technologies showcased at the field level. It would lead to the enhanced
flexibility, transparency and enabling mechanisms for dissemination of the climate resilient
technologies among rural communities. Khan et al, 2020 stated that CBOs play important role
in reducing the negative impacts of climate change by enhancing the adoption of adaptation
strategies. It is also evident from the study the need of further strengthening and
institutionalizing the informal farmers’ groups and institutions for the successful adaptation.
