Conservation of rainfall water and its judicious use of it is the primary activity in combating
the climate variability in vulnerable village. Even the soil conservation related interventions
like trench cum bunding and cultivation of crops in ridges and furrows are also recommended
in the farmers’ fields with a sole motive of in situ conservation of rain water. The interventions
carried out in Yelerampura gram panchayat under NICRA project were well received not only
by the farmers of that panchayat but also other government officers and law makers. Various
promotional efforts taken by the KVK team in the last one decade resulted in adoption of
similar measures in other parts of the district. Recognizing the interventions by the KVK, in
the area of water conservation for achieving climate resilience in agriculture, National Water
Award-2020 was bestowed on the Yelerampura gram panchayat by the Ministry of Jal Shakti
in March 2021.
