A word from the Principal...
Dear families,
We’ve survived the numerous weather warnings and made it to the end of term!
The last few weeks have been filled with festive events, which have highlighted the strength of the
Ludgvan School Community. Our FLS have excelled themselves yet again, putting on a fabulous
Christmas Fair, running Elfridge’s, Toy Raffle and setting up Santa’s grotto! During this time, they
have raised an incredible £2800! Their time and dedication is greatly appreciated and their impact
on enriching the children’s school experience is huge.
It has also been great to attend so many presentations of learning, Christingles at the Church and
the EYFS nativity. Each event has given our children the opportunity to present or perform to a
live audience, developing confidence and resilience which they can use in all aspects of their lives.
Every event we have held has been brilliantly supported by our families, so thank you for helping
make them such a success.
Your children may have told you about our visit from Father Christmas himself this week. He came
to drop off a present to all of the children and arrived via helicopter from Culdrose! It was a great
moment and many of the children’s faces were a joy to behold.
Again, thank you all for your support this term and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year.
Kind regards,
Mr Adam Anderson
Principal

Oracy Challenge
Silly songs: children love to listen to silly nursery rhymes and songs created by altering
the rhyming words. For example, “Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder where
you’re at” or “Baa baa black sheep, have you any eggs? No sir, no sir, but I have
some pegs.” Have a go at changing the words to some nursery rhymes, Christmas
carols or songs - the sillier the better!

EYFS
Early Years have had a very busy couple of weeks! The children have enjoyed
exploring ice and were all excited to find a mini ice skating rink in our outdoor
area. They went on to investigate how ice melts and what they could do to
make it melt quickly. The children used salt and then tried to find other things
to melt the ice. Many of the children also had lots of fun making snow this
week. They were given flour, cornflour and baby oil and had to experiment with
different amounts of each ingredient to make the perfect snow! More mystery
messages also appeared this week. Fred the Frog taught everyone how to spell
the word ‘to’ and he wouldn’t tell us what the message meant until they had all
written the word and posted it to him! Later that day, lots of the children wrote
Christmas cards to each other using the new word.

We have been extremely busy over the past two weeks. As part of our end
of topic celebration we were able to share our learning with Year 4. The two
classes spent the afternoon together working with a partner to talk about their
learning and complete an art activity. They all worked incredibly hard and are
looking forward to working with each other again. As part of their Outdoor
Learning session last week the class made stew on the campfire.
The children have been making lovely Christmas crafts and wrote some fantastic
letters to Santa. They were very excited to meet Santa!! We made our
own Christingles and took part in a service at Ludgvan church. They all sang
beautifully and were amazing!!
Happy Christmas!

Well, Year 2 have ended the year with a jam packed agenda!
We visited Truro Cathedral where we learnt more about the Nativity story
through a walk around the displays. Whilst there, we sang some carols and
made our own Christmas cards.
We worked hard to learn our lines and practise our songs for our Christingle
service in the Church, which was really special in the darkness.
We also ended our topic on The Great Fire of London by reenacting the fire
with our own handmade houses in the playground. Under careful supervision,
we watched how the fire spread from one end (the bakery) to the other and
couldn’t believe how quickly it all happened.
You have worked so hard this term Year 2, and we are so proud of you all.
Have a fantastic Christmas break!

Year 3 have had a really busy few weeks. They have been completing their
end of term assessments, finishing their final pieces of work, team building at
Mounts Bay, having a visit from Santa on a helicopter, taking part in an assembly
with the local Fire crew, enjoying some cooking on the campfire, taking part
in the KS2 Christingle, acting out the Nativity story and creating some Christmas
crafts!
What a great term Year 3, well done!

Class 4 has had an amazing first term. Mrs Peters, Miss Kennedy and I couldn’t
be prouder of them; they’ve all worked so hard to learn so many new concepts
and skills in all areas of the curriculum. It has been a pleasure to see them all
make so much progress in their work and in their confidence. They finished
the Autumn Term off with an afternoon showing Class 1 many aspects of what
they have achieved in their topic ‘What lies beneath?’ Then the children worked
together with a Year 1 child to create a joint underwater creation. They all really
enjoyed themselves and produced great pieces of collaborative art. The children
all deserve a break; I hope they all have a lovely Christmas.

Y5
Despite our week being full of assessments, Year 5 has remained positive and
excited for the Christmas break. On top of all their work they also dedicated
their afternoon to their parent presentation evening where they proudly
showed all their amazing achievements from their first term of Year 5. We are
so proud of the hard work they put into learning their lines and songs. Additionally,
this week they had a special visit from Santa who arrived on the field
in a helicopter with the Navy. Year 5 finished their presentations on Ernest
Shackleton and their self-portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo. Well done Year 5!

Y6
Year 6 have been creating amazing newspaper reports based on London in the
Blitz. We explored features that were effective and particular to reporting stories,
as opposed to telling stories. After exploring specific reported vocabulary,
we began to create paragraphs that explained certain events that occurred during
the months of air raid bombing that took place, as well as gathered quotes
from the perspective of civilians.
Daily Britain
16th September 1940

Recently, in the city of London there have been constant
bombing from the German army; due to Adolf Hitler’s urge
for revenge. London’s civilians are beginning to seek shelter
from what they call the ‘Blitz’.
At approximately twelve a.m last night, the German army
began another attack in central London. It has been reported that 5 people died and
the air raids have been getting worse because they are happening more often.
Hitler had been sending his ‘Luftwaffes’ and ‘Heinkels’ at around midnight. Civilians
are being warned to take their gas masks everywhere and to immediately find
shelter if an air raid siren goes off. Hundreds of German bombs are hitting Britain
everynight. People are calling the bombing the ‘Blitz’ - which means lightning in
German.
Heavy bombs rained down on London when they became Germany’s target. Several
houses were once again burned and bombed to the ground. Mrs. Williams, who is
32 and lives on Harold street with her husband and 2 children, reported that she
woke up with a start last night due to German bombs crashing into her neighbours
houses, when she looked out of the window all she saw was fire and destruction. She
gathered up her family and luckily made it safely to a shelter a few minutes away.
Terror and horror are striking our civilians and many have perished because of
Adolf Hitler. Winston Churchill has quoted, “Hitler is mad to start this war, London
is crumbling under the pressure of bombs being dropped from German planes, my
people must get to safety before it to late.” Everyone is wondering: ‘’When will the
Blitz be over? When will Hitler stop? When will we all be safe?”
