THE Y2K FASHION RESURGE

Written by Kenneth Rallos

With crop tops, loose pants, pleated skirts, and

sleeveless sweaters making a comeback this year,

another 2000s relic is making a reappearance on the

fashion landscape. Low-rise cuts, once associated

with the stage attire of Britney Spears and

Christina Aguilera, have been resurrected by a slew

of significant stars as well as major luxury design

businesses. Whether you like it or not, the trend of

low-rise jeans, skirts, and other clothing is officially

making a comeback.

BRINGING CHARACTERS TO LIFE:

THE WORLD OF COSPLAY

Cosplay has paved the way in today’s modern world.

Cosplay is a performative art form that stands for

costume play. Cosplayers wear accessories and costumes

to represent a specific character which includes anime,

comic books, Tv series or a video game.

The term cosplay was firstly coined in 1984 by

Nobuyuki Takahashi. Since then, it was now known not

just among Japanese but also the West.

Diversity Is Human rights

Signs of progress in trans and non-binary

inclusion are emerging in the fashion

world. Fashion and beauty are well

positioned to lead on trans and non-binary

inclusion because of their deep ties to

gender expression and self-actualization,

says Vivian Topping, director of advocacy

and civic engagement at Equality

Federation, a US-based organization.

Fashion and beauty help us feel seen. The

fashion industry needs to understand that

transgender and gender nonconforming

models are not just a fad to cash in on for a

few seasons before moving on to the next

hot topic. In order to prioritize

representation, modelling and casting must

embrace all genders and operate from a

place of honesty.

However, in order to maintain the

capitalist consumer system, the fashion

industry and international marketing

agencies have clung to the issues of

diversity, racism, and minority rights. But it

appears like the only thing they care about

is selling, and inclusion is more about

business than it is about respect for human

rights. For the finest work, you must be

able to bring your complete self to the

workplace because creativity is fuelled by

intersectionality and inclusiveness,

particularly in the creative industries.

Where people choose to work shouldn't be

dependent on where they feel comfortable.

As a result, you must provide a framework

and environment that promote success.

According to Casey, fashion companies can help.

“Businesses can play an important role in filling

those gaps.” That’s why in a in a legislative

environment businesses can take the lead. It’s

progressive when companies think about

transgender care in a proactive way, instead of

waiting to implement policies in moments of crisis

or when they meet a trans person for the first time.

There will be a rapidly changing demography in

the workplace in the next few years, so these

policies will be more needed and standard.

lead on trans and

non-binary"

The Y2K Fashion Resurge

Written by Kenneth Rallos

With crop tops, loose pants, pleated skirts,

and sleeveless sweaters making a comeback

this year, another 2000s relic is making a

reappearance on the fashion landscape. Lowrise

cuts, once associated with the stage attire

of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera,

have been resurrected by a slew of significant

stars as well as major luxury design

businesses. Whether you like it or not, the

trend of low-rise jeans, skirts, and other

clothing is officially making a comeback.

Back in January of this year, Low-rise jeans

are set to be one of the year's top fashion

trends in 2022, and a revival is already in

the works. Everything from pants and skirts

to leggings, shorts, baggy pants, and jeans is

receiving the low-rise treatment, sitting

well below the waist, exactly in line with

your underwear, or even lower if you're

feeling daring. The style may be polarizing,

but it also provides as a reminder that, after

two years of the pandemic, fashion is taking

a more seductive turn.Few things were more thrilling

as a sentient teenager in the 2000s than the advent of

Y2K: the popular moniker for the approaching

computer bug that would halt the world as we knew

it immediately at the turn of the century. The term is

now more associated with fashion than with data

entry errors: it's synonymous with butterfly clips,

Bratz dolls, and anything Britney Spears. But how

should Y2K be dressed in 2022?

Source: Google Images

What is Y2K Aesthetic? If there’s any single

word that sums up the Y2K aesthetic, it’s

playful. Think of Britney’s ‘Baby One More

Time’ album cover or any Delia’s catalog you

may have feverishly flipped through in 2001.

At the heart of the Y2K fashion revival is the

lightheartedness of a more innocent time—

and probably also Euphoria’s reign. That

means short minidresses sometimes paired

with chunky boots and crystal-embellished

everything. Other interpretations include

Tom Ford’s era-defining designs toward the

end of his reign at Gucci, which means satin

dresses cut on the bias, low-slung trousers,

and even sexy, gem-encrusted black leather

slingbacks—a look that started in the ’90s and

was reinvigorated with a little more

personality in the early aughts.

Y2K fashion already pushes boundaries, but if

there’s one element that causes the greatest

stir, it’s the comeback of low-rise pants.

Childhood images of the cool older girls

wearing their light wash, low-rise skinny

jeans with a gray hoodie flash through my

mind—as does almost anything Paris Hilton

wore in the early aughts. To be fair, today’s

rendition of low-rise pants features looser,

baggier fits rather than the original ultra slim

or bootcut styles. If you’re still avidly team

high-rise, here are three looks to convince you

to, quite literally, take the plunge.

FASHION

ALREADY

PUSHES

BOUNDARIES"

Cebu-based talented fashion designers have

collaborated the stage in a roaring stadium to

bring out the boldness and beauty of the

women who are a part of organizations who

support the fight for breast cancer as they

sashayed in style and elegance. The

atmosphere was both festive and uplifting as

this event showcased how hope and rebirth

can be presented through fashion.

.

The lineup featured a spectacle of glam and

glitz of the twenty-two artistic minds,

namely Philip Rodriguez, Philip Tampus,

Jun Escario, Rei Escario, Dino Lloren,

Edwin Alba, Mike Yopching, Manuel

Tomaque, Elmer De Venancio, Bree

Espianda, Mikhali Achas, Yoko Sato,

Griffins Malazarte, Lemuel Rosos, Pinky

Magalona, Divine Cordova, Ulmar James

Uy, Eve Navales, Steven Cyrus, Antonette

Loon, Francis Duane, and Jim Tolop. The

collection included distinctive vivid

cocktail dresses and silky vibrant suits. It

also includes gorgeous hand-embroidered

and adorned dresses. The designs are indeed

pieces of art and labors of love. They are

made of delicate tulle and organza, and they

redefine wedding wear materials by widening the

conventional white-beige-gold color palette to

include black, as well as jolts of orange, fuchsia,

and sunny yellow. A structured taffeta bubble

hem dress in a vibrant tartan is available, as is a

translucent point d'esprit gown fully

embroidered in a red coral design. Spearheaded

by Junior Chamber International, the show was

made possible with the support of the local

government unit of Mandaue City. It was indeed

a night of inspiration, empowerment, and

movement as the fashion industry continue to

break barriers in the next years to come.

Cosplayers can be found in Conventions that are

related to Anime and Games. They get to dress

to role-play as their favorite character. This can

be a form of artistic self- expression since it gives

one an opportunity to take something and make

it their own. Cosplayers can get their costumes

from manufactures or they can create their own

They also engage in body modification wherein

cosplayers use contact lenses, temporary tattoos,

beauty cosmetics or body paint to look like

their favorite character.Cosplay has also

helped people increase their self-esteem

since it can also help people who struggle

with self-identity and body image. Cosplay

is a healthy form of escapism and allows

people to use their creativity, problem

solving skills and talent put into a great use
