If you have ever wanted to try journaling, this course will provide answers to your every question.<br />

LOOK-SEE ART: PORTRAITURE OF AND FOR THE PEOPLE*<br />

This class features key artists who chose—<strong>and</strong> choose—to observe people who are <strong>of</strong>ten overlooked<br />

<strong>and</strong> move them into focus. Inspired by the recent National Portrait Gallery’s special exhibition, Hung<br />

Liu: Portraits <strong>of</strong> Promised L<strong>and</strong>s, we kick <strong>of</strong>f the discussion with an open <strong>and</strong> frank look at Liu’s work<br />

from the exhibition while subsequent sessions consider the portrait paintings <strong>of</strong> the Realists Gustave<br />

Courbet, Édouard Manet, the Ashcan School, <strong>and</strong> Black figurative artists Jordan Casteel <strong>and</strong> Kehinde<br />

BEGINNING WRITER’S WORKSHOP<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> the best works <strong>of</strong> fiction <strong>and</strong> nonfiction were crafted in a writer’s workshop. This online<br />

course will help you write your own creative piece. Like a true writing workshop, you will learn<br />

literary techniques, peer review a classmate’s work, <strong>and</strong> receive constructive criticism on your<br />

This course is designed for the novice photographer with no previous experience with digital<br />

cameras. This course will teach you all about digital cameras, from DSLRs to smart phone<br />

The Rhone wine region is one <strong>of</strong> the premier regions in France with a long, storied history. It <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

great quality along with great value. In Paris, every bistro <strong>of</strong>fers good values from the Rhone. Taste<br />

<strong>and</strong> discover the differences between the northern <strong>and</strong> southern Rhone regions largely due to<br />

the terroir <strong>and</strong> grape varieties. The different varietal makeup in each region features the stylistic<br />

preferences <strong>of</strong> the winemakers. Don’t miss this one!<br />

Nero d’ Avola, a choice white, <strong>and</strong> a dessert wine. We’ll explore the Italian wine regulations, wine<br />

vocabulary, <strong>and</strong> soils that affect the resulting wine.<br />

THE LURE OF LOIRE*<br />

The Loire Valley is the home <strong>of</strong> the chateaux <strong>of</strong> kings. It is the most diverse wine region in France<br />

yet not very well known. Every style <strong>of</strong> wine, from snappy sparkling wines to dry whites, to roses,<br />

reds, to long-lived sweet dessert wines is made here. We will sample wines from some <strong>of</strong> the more<br />

famous sub-regions such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume, <strong>and</strong> Vouvray <strong>and</strong> from some equally delicious<br />

lesser-known wines from Muscadet, Chinon <strong>and</strong> Savennieres. Come be enchanted by the lure <strong>of</strong><br />

INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING<br />

Taught by: Vincent Aloyo<br />

This course will inform potential beekeepers <strong>of</strong> the joys <strong>and</strong> responsibilities <strong>of</strong> successful<br />

beekeeping. Honeybees have pests <strong>and</strong> diseases that will kill them without the beekeeper’s help.<br />

During the first weekend, you’ll learn about apiary location requirements, how to obtain bees,<br />

essential equipment as well as important aspects <strong>of</strong> honeybee biology. This early start allows you<br />

to choose <strong>and</strong> order your beehive <strong>and</strong> bees at a time when they are readily available. During the<br />

second weekend, closer to the time that you will obtain your bees, we will discuss how to start <strong>and</strong><br />

care for your new bee colony. Additional topics include seasonal management, important sources<br />

<strong>of</strong> nectar <strong>and</strong> pollen, honey production <strong>and</strong> harvesting. Please bring a bagged lunch as we will<br />
