Annual
Report

Dear Sandia Prep
Community,
Our 2021-2022 school year was a year
of transition for Sandia Prep. Fresh on
the heels of one of the most challenging
times in our history, we reimagined school,
we discovered unique ways to reunite and
reconnect, and we saw the retirement of our
ninth Head of School, Bill Sinfield.
I am honored to have been chosen as Sandia Prep's tenth
Head of School after having begun my teaching career here in
1995. The school imbued in me a deep understanding of the
importance of focusing on the whole child in education. I am
thrilled to now serve the school that did so much for me at the
start of my career.
We know that the most compelling learning happens when
students feel engaged, healthy, and included. At Sandia Prep,
we create the conditions for this type of learning through an
innovative curriculum, a broad range of extracurricular programs
(artistic, athletic, and academic), creative teaching methods, and
thoughtfully-designed spaces to ensure the growth, wellness,
and achievement of all students.
To that end, we have in our sights a Strategic Vision that will
consider the needs of our students today and tomorrow. We
aim to develop rich programming that inspires our students
to explore and make better the world around them, support
our phenomenal faculty to effectively share their passions
and develop 21st-century skills in our students, and create
new spaces for innovative and collaborative learning. We are
inspired by our predecessors who helped make Sandia Prep
into the school we know today. It's not just a physical space; it's
a safe, welcoming home away from home.
I extend my appreciation to all who have shaped and continue
to shape our wonderful school. We hope the summary of our
year here provides you with a sense of pride for who we are,
what we stand for, what we have become, and where we are
heading next.
All the best,
MISSION
The joy of learning and living is
at the center of all we do. Sandia
Preparatory School provides remarkable
opportunities for intellectual and
personal growth within a challenging
and balanced program. As an extension
of our families, Sandia Prep’s diverse
community inspires students to find their
academic focus, talents, and creativity.
In Case You Missed It
The Prep community came together for some fun
and fundraising over the course of a year.
Under the direction of parent co-chairs Stephen and Lisa Garcia, we
hosted the 12th Annual Sandia Prep Golf Tournament presented
by PNM, Tribal Government & Customer Engagement at Twin
Warriors Golf Club. The outing raised $28,000 for the School’s
financial aid program.
Our popular Tuition Raffle followed with 445 tickets sold to benefit
The Prep Fund.
We rounded out the year with our Noche de Celebración: A Tribute
to Leadership gala at Sandia Resort and Casino. The event, attended
by 400+ guests, celebrated the leadership of retiring Head of School
Bill Sinfield and the multiple ways in which our students demonstrate
qualities of leadership. Thanks to the guidance of our co-chairs Faith
Begay-Holtrop and Jackie Moss Apodaca, the gala raised $150,000 for
the general operation of Sandia Prep.
Dear Coach Smith,
Thank you for your roles as a
mentor, coach, and inspiration
in the life of my son. The
perseverance and resilience
he shows in his new athletic
adventure is, in part, a tribute
to the influence you have had on
his life. Thank you, beyond words.
