Dear friends of Peggy Adams,
In my early months as CEO at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League,
I have quickly realized how truly fortunate I am to be leading such
a well-established, respected, and supported organization. I am
grateful to our Board Members and team for the warm welcome and
look forward to meeting and working together with our donors and
community to continue our mission for the homeless and unwanted
pets in Palm Beach County.
I appreciate the compassion the members of our staff have for the
animals in our care, and I’m compelled to share many recent stories
with you. Peggy Adams is fortunate to be able to help special medical
cases and react in critical times. We cannot thank our supporters
enough for providing us with the resources to shelter, care for, and
rehome cats and dogs in need.
On behalf of Peggy Adams and the animals we serve, thank you for all
that you do for us.

MISSION MOMENT: RAMSEY
Despite losing her leg and tail, Ramsey is getting
around just fine! She adores chin scratches and will
even roll over for a good stretch and belly rub. Ramsey
is feeling so much better than when she arrived, and
her future is bright! Ramsey was adopted on
October 29 th .
After a month of care and recovery, 3-legged Ramsey
was ready for adoption!
A good Samaritan found 4-month-old Ramsey
in Royal Palm Beach with injuries to her tail and
one of her front legs. Concerned for the little kitten,
they brought her to Peggy Adams for care. X-rays
revealed irreparable fractures in Ramsey's leg and at
the base of her tail - amputation would be the only
way to eliminate her pain and restore her mobility.
Thankfully, cats and kittens often recover quickly
from amputation and adapt well to life on three legs!

“Ramsey has been such a delight to our family. I lost
my 16-year-old cat a few years ago and it was very
difficult. I started looking for another cat over a year
ago and when Peggy Adams posted a picture of her on
social media, my face just lit up and I knew that she
was the one. She is such a delight and has fit in very
well. She gets more and more playful every day. One
thing I really love about her is her cuddling! She is a
very special and loving kitty! I love her so much.

MISSION MOMENT: TO THE RESCUE

treated at our facility
Recently, as Hurricane Ian
approached, the Peggy
Adams team quickly
assembled to protect
our own shelter and the
animals in our care.
“Storm Riders” spent the
night to ensure that our
facilities and animals stayed
secure and safe.
We were lucky to dodge the
storm locally and quickly shifted
to helping those in need on Florida’s
West Coast. Members of our team traveled to
Ft. Myers immediately after the storm to help
Gulf Coast Humane Society, whose shelter had
sustained significant damage.
57 of their animals were transferred to Peggy
Adams. Many of the rescued dogs and cats arrived
with medical issues and required surgery or
extended medical care before being placed up for
adoption.
Thanks to you, we have the resources and facilities
to treat these animals, and space to shelter them
until they are adopted.

SAFETY NET MISSION MOMENT: A SPECIAL REUNION
Jon took Lola in after she had been used
for breeding and left behind by her previous
owners. With Jon's love and care, life was
looking up for Lola. Unfortunately, she
recently fell ill. Jon noticed that she was
lethargic, not her usual bubbly, outgoing self.
She started having accidents in the home and
had lost her appetite. Even her favorite tennis
ball couldn't get Lola out of bed. Jon knew he
had to find care for Lola, but he didn't have
the means to take her to a private vet.
When Jon reached out to us, we told him
about our Safety Net program. Safety Net
keeps pets and their families together by
providing medical care when someone like
Jon wants to keep their pet, but the cost of
care stands in the way. Jon was thrilled to
learn that he would be able to reunite
with Lola and continue caring for her
once she was well.
After X-rays of Lola's abdomen, our
medical team suspected pyometra, an
infection of the uterus that can quickly
become life-threatening if left untreated.
Spay surgery confirmed that Lola did
have pyometra. After the removal of
her uterus and lots of antibiotics and
fluids, we got to see Lola become
her bubbly, belly-rub loving self
again. After spending two weeks
apart, Lola and Jon were more
than ready for their reunion!
Lola was thrilled to see Jon (and
her favorite tennis ball), and Jon
was moved at seeing Lola restored to her
happy, healthy self. There's no doubt that
these two belong together. We're so glad we
were able to help with Lola's care and keep
her with her family!

NINTH ANNUAL COUNTDOWN 2 ZERO MEGA PET ADOPTION EVENT

On September 24th, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue
League and Palm Beach County Animal Care &
Control (ACC) opened their doors to host nine
local rescues for the day-long Countdown 2 Zero
(C2Z) kick-off event. Both campuses were filled
with adorable, adoptable animals looking for homes.
Adoption promotions and specials continued at each
individual shelter and/or rescue organization through
October 1, 2022. An impressive 224 animals found
new homes during this week-long adoption event.

We greatly appreciate the philanthropic efforts local
businesses and corporations organize to benefit the
animals at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
Through the month of July, Peggy Adams was the
benefitting organization of the Dine for a Cause
initiative by Galley at Hilton West Palm Beach. This
initiative was created to support the community
while offering diners an opportunity to come together
for a great meal and conversation. Dine for a Cause
highlights local organizations raising awareness and
funds every Thursday of select months with 10 percent
of the proceeds donated to that month’s organization.
During the month of July, $2,883.59 was raised
for Peggy Adams.
This year, the total service hours of Project
Groups is 634 hours. Some of our current

Adelaide, Adopted 6/17/22
“We adopted Adelaide a little over 3 months ago. We
were told that she had been returned twice before for
being “too chaotic and destructive.” After spending a
few minutes with her at the shelter, it was clear that
she was coming home. Her bubbly personality has just
blossomed even more since she’s been in her forever
home with us. She also now listens on command,
knows paw, lay down, stay and sit. After going for a
long walk or going to the beach, all she wants to do
is cuddle next to you. All she needed was someone
to give her an actual chance. No one is going to get
a perfect dog right out of a shelter like most people
think. It takes time, love, patience and training.
Adelaide is just a perfect example of that. Thank you
so much Peggy Adams for helping me find this sweet

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Students from the Palm Beach School for Autism,
who are enrolled in a Career Experience class,
participate in community-based employment training
at Peggy Adams twice weekly. Accompanied by job
coaches, they are learning valuable interpersonal
skills, soft skills, and task specific employment skills.
The students truly enjoy participating in meaningful
work to help enrich the lives of the animals
available for adoption at Peggy Adams. Additional
students, not participating in the community-based
work experience, enjoy visiting the animals and
volunteering their time with us.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU
It was the seventh year for this ever-growing, popular
music festival Bark Back Benefit. Local favorite band,
Spred the Dub, took over Bryant Park in Lake Worth
Beach, Florida. On Saturday, October 15 th , the event
featured 11 bands and various entertainment all on one
stage throughout the day and into the night. The annual
“First Responders Runway Show” spotlighted 12 dogs
up for adoption looking for their forever homes. These
pups were led down the runway by representatives
of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach
County Sheriff 's Office, as well as Michael McDermott,
drummer for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Food trucks,
vendors, artists, and a car show also filled the park.
Peggy Adams would like to extend a big thank you to
event founders Jacque Batcha and Mick Swigert, the
planning committee, emcee Jean Williams, musicians,
Palm Beach Fire Rescue, Palm Beach County Sheriff 's

Peggy Adams’ Humane Education Department
believes that people, animals and the environment are
all connected. Through humane education programs,
we can all make a lifetime of good choices in our
treatment of all living things and the world we share.

is a group of young professionals committed to
broadening and enhancing the base of support
for animal welfare in Palm Beach County. YFPA
members help raise awareness of Peggy Adams’

The Leadership Circle is made up of individuals who have expressed
their intention to support Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League
annually at a major level of $1,000 or more for five years
or longer. The stability and support that Leadership Circle
contributions provide directly saves the lives of thousands of
cats and dogs in our community each year. The support helps
us provide shelter and medical services to lost, surrendered
and homeless animals, and find them their forever homes.

New Year, consider these smart ways to wrap up 2022 on a
financial high note. Not only can you save on your taxes,
but you can also make a huge impact for the animals
at Peggy Adams.
It is our privilege to assist you with your charitable
giving. As we approach the end of the year, we are
happy to help ensure that you realize the greatest
benefit for your hard-earned assets.
TYPES OF GIFTS
Appreciated Stock
If you have owned a stock for more than one year
and it has grown in value, you may avoid taxes on
the appreciated value and qualify for an income tax
charitable deduction based on today’s market value
when you itemize. You will enjoy the same benefits
with a gift of appreciated cryptocurrency. You receive
the same tax saving as if you wrote a check, but with
the added benefit of eliminating capital gains taxes.
Depreciated Assets
Unfortunately, 2022 wasn’t good for all portfolios.
If you would like to support Peggy Adams but your
stocks or cryptocurrency have fallen in value, it is best
to sell them first and then donate the cash. This allows
you to record the loss as a tax deduction and qualify
for an income tax deduction for the gift.
Donor Advised Fund
Contributing to Peggy Adams through your Donor
Advised Fund gives you the flexibility to support our
animals while enjoying favorable tax benefits. You can
recommend a grant or recurring grant now to have an
immediate impact. This is a great way to simplify your
charitable giving.
Distribution of IRA Assets
If you are 70½ or older, you can give any amount up
to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to Peggy
Adams. You will not pay income taxes on the transfer.
If you are required to take minimum distributions,
you can use this transfer to satisfy all or part of your
obligation.
Endowment Gift
Consider a gift to the Peggy Adams Endowment Fund
with the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and
Martin Counties. Contact us to see how your gift can
be designated to benefit Peggy Adams FOREVER.

PEGGY’S PANTRY
Peggy's Pantry assists families who live in
Palm Beach County facing challenges due to
unexpected hardship. That is why our Pantry
offers help by providing essential supplies such
as wet and dry food for dogs and cats.
We also offer referrals for low-cost vet care and
spay/neuter surgeries for pet owners. Our goal
is to keep families and their pets together and out
of the shelter.
We recognize the important bond between people
and animals. We believe this bond should not be
broken or torn apart due to financial setbacks. Last
year, Peggy's Pantry fed over 12,900 pets. That's
171,645 pounds of food!

Home for the Holidays
Our cats and dogs don’t want to spend another holiday in the shelter. Give them a reason to be thankful

"pawliday" season.
Hi there, I’m Pluto! I was adopted
from Peggy Adams as a kitten, but
unfortunately returned. When I got back,
I was diagnosed with diabetes which is now
under control with my diet. As a longtime
resident, I'm a member of the Peggy's Picks
adoption program which has a bunch of
incentives, including a waived
adoption fee!
Pluto is a 2-year-old, male Domestic Shorthair cat who is good with
other cats and dogs. He's been up for adoption for over 250 days.
Hi, I'm Cheese! I definitely have some stories
to tell, but my sweet personality endures all. I came to
Peggy Adams from another animal shelter with an injured
hip. I've been hopping on three legs for a while, so I'm so glad
I was transferred here for hip surgery! It's been awhile now,
and I'm still learning to walk on all four legs. Thanks to
physical therapy with the vet techs, I've come a long way!
I'm ready to move on from my storied past and be spoiled!
I'm a sponsored Dolly's Dream Dog, which means that
my adoption fee is waived and I'll take home
an awesome package of benefits!
Cheese is a laid back 7-year-old, female mixed breed dog
who loves cuddling and would be a great couch potato.
