GREYBIRD 

Welcome to our outstanding, one-of-a-kind, and 

truly international commercial pilot education. Our 

modular course is a well-structured and 

interconnected process, consisting of international 

and bilingual academic training alternating between 

our three bases in Spain, Sweden, and Denmark. 

Having different bases provides our program with 

versatility, which equips students with a skill set 

hard to get at a single base pilot academy. All the 

costs for travelling between the bases and 

accommodation at other bases abroad are included 

in the price of the training. 

Our education programme includes a structured 

and interconnected process – from start to finish. 

We can proudly proclaim that our commercial pilot 

education is one of the only programmes in Europe, 

which allows you to study in modules, as well as fly 

and study internationally. We are the only pilot 

academy to offer strictly positive training. 

By following this versatile programme, which 

we can offer due to our different bases, 

students will have the opportunity to achieve a 

skill set unlike what is obtainable at a pilot 

academy that operates locally in only one 

location. All the costs for travelling between the 

bases and for staying in a different base than 

your home base are included in the price of the

A BROAD 

EDUCATION 

Becoming a pilot is not limited to learning to fly an 

aircraft. It is much more than that. 

A pilot thinks, acts, communicates and works in a 

particular way, and is constantly aware of risks and 

thinking ahead of any potential event that 

interferes with the planned actions. This is true in 

the air as well as on the ground. 

The aviation industry focuses on three words: 

knowledge, skills and attitude (KSA). 

As a flight training organization, our finest task is to 

make our students KSA aware, and we have 

developed a special programme and a special way 

of working, studying and thinking, which we 

believe affects our students efficiently and 

effectively so that they become KSA aware. 

Our programme is referred to as the circle of 

success, because success is what you will get if 

you work and study true to the philosophy in the

HIGHLY EXPIERENCED 

INSTRUCTORS 

GreyBird has been in business since 2013. In the 

relatively short time since 2013, GreyBird has 

become the largest and most successful pilot 

academy in our country of origin – Denmark, and 

thus we have expanded our operation to Sweden 

and Spain. 

GreyBird differs from traditional pilot academies in 

many ways. One of the very important ways is that 

we base our education almost exclusively on 

permanently hired full-time instructors. As opposed 

to having freelance instructors, which is commonly 

used in the industry, this choice ensures that the 

instructors you will learn from are as qualified as

are standardized and intensely trained under the 

supervision of GreyBird’s experienced Chief Flight 

Instructor (CFI).

The road to becoming a great pilot with the right 

attitude starts with meticulousness. Being 

meticulous is a choice, and it does not take more 

than a decision to act meticulously. To be 

responsible and competent, obviously, is not a

efficiently for a prolonged period of time. 

But what about being responsible? Could that be a 

choice? To be responsible, you must make the 

right decisions repeatedly, and to be able to make 

the right decisions, you need knowledge and

The right decision is very rarely the easy decision. 

The right decision is the decision which is good no 

matter what happens next. If you find yourself 

thinking, “is it good enough if I…” or similar, the right

carefully. It is important that you choose a school at which you can see yourself spending hundreds of

WE FLY GREEN 

At GreyBird, we fly in state-of-the-art Tecnam 

airplanes. The airplanes are both designed and 

manufactured in the current millennium. Not 

only that; they are green, using only 15-20 liters 

of fuel per hour per engine, and they make very 

little noise compared to older types. The 

aircraft can fly on unleaded fuel, and as the first 

complex approved flight training organization in 

Europe.

THE BEST FUTURE PILOTS 

With the Tecnam planes, GreyBird offers a product 

not yet matched in the European aviation industry. 

We offer more complex flying lessons in modern 

aircraft at the same price as you will find in less 

attractive programmes. A pilot who has recently 

graduated from GreyBird has a total of 254 flying 

hours – 171 of which are flown in state-of-the-art 

Tecnam planes. We believe that this gives you the 

best education and the best stepping-stone for your 

future career. In the final module of the education, 

you will spend 40 hours in an FNPT II MCC Airbus 

A320 simulator. In this part of the education, you will 

complete your APS MCC course, which must be 

completed in a simulator. 

When you graduate from GreyBird, you will have 

flown 36 hours in a real multi-engine airplane, and in 

addition, you will have spent 40 hours in our 

procedure simulator which is an exact replica of the 

aircraft. When you are investigating your flight 

academy options, pay close attention to the number 

of hours of real flying time in real multi-engine 

airplanes. Frequently, a considerable part takes 

place in a simulator that is different from the aircraft, 

and even more often, many flight training 

organizations use single-engine aircraft to conduct 

IFR training. It is cheaper, but it provides negative 

training and is less valuable than multi-engine 

training. There is a reason why your final flight 

exams are conducted in twin-engine aircraft.

A SECURE PAY-BY- 

MODULE SETUP 

At GreyBird, you do not need to pay all or even most of your flying lessons in advance. You will pay an 

entrance fee, and you will pay at the beginning of each of the modules. This means that you pay for 

your education as you progress, and most of the education is paid when you have passed all the 

theoretical exams. In addition, the pay-by-module setup gives you an easy overview of your financial 

progress during the entire education process.

for administering the education. The system is

hand throughout the training to keep track of 

how close you are to your dream of becoming

OUR MODULAR ACADEMIC 

TRAINING 

MODULE 1: 

PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE (PPL) AND NIGHT QUALIFICATION (NQ) 

Module 1 takes two to three months to complete. The 

goal is to get the PPL license. 

As a pilot student, you will fly 50 VFR (Visual Flight 

Rules) flying hours, 5 of which will be flown during 

nighttime (NQ). 

This will all be flown in our P2002 trainer aircraft. 

In addition to flying, you will learn eight subjects of 

basic theory: 

Air law 

Principles of flight 

Human performance and limitations 

Meteorology 

Flight planning and monitoring 

Operational procedures 

Aircraft general knowledge 

Navigation 

With the theory subjects, we will acquaint you 

with the theory behind the reason your aircraft 

flies; why it can fly, why the weather acts the 

way it does, how to find your way using a map, 

which procedures must be followed and the 

limitations your own body and mind have in 

relation to forces in the aircraft and high 

altitudes. 

In this module, the fundamental knowledge is 

settled in the students’ minds, and their flying 

skills improve to a level at which they learn to fly 

on their own for several hours and hundreds of 

kilometers away from the base where they took 

off. The students will also obtain their first 

certificate – a BEG certificate which allows them 

to control the radio in an aircraft during visual 

flying conditions.

MODULE 2: 

ATPL THEORY AND YOUR SECOND RADIO CERTIFICATE 

This part of the education is strictly theoretical. 

The students can now fly an aircraft on their own 

and have a good basic understanding of the 

theory of aviation. Now it is time to dig in deeper. 

This module is nine months long and consists of 

three blocks of three sections each: 

TWhen the student has passed all thirteen exams, 

she/he holds what is referred to as a frozen ATPL. 

This means that the student has passed the 

theoretical exams that will make her/him qualified 

to become a captain later in her/his career. 

Four subjects in each of the two first sections, 

and five subjects in the last one. Each section 

lasts three months. A total of 13 subjects are 

taught. Associated exams must be passed at the 

end of each block. The knowledge covered is 

much deeper than the basic theory mentioned 

above, although eight of the subjects have the 

same title.

HOUR BUILDING & MULTI- 

ENGINE 

MODULE 3: 

70 PILOT IN COMMAND 

(PIC) FLYING HOURS 

MODULE 4: 

THE MULTI-ENGINE CLASS 

RATING/MULTI-ENGINE 

INSTRUMENT RATING (MECR/MEIR) 

This time-building module comprises 70 PIC 

flying hours: 55 flying hours and 15 hours 

accompanied by a backup pilot at no extra cost 

This module focuses completely on visual and 

instrumental flight training. 

Students fly in adverse weather conditions such as 

rain, mist and into and over clouds with zero 

visibility. This part of the training is conducted in the 

P2006T aircraft and its corresponding P2006T 

FNPT II simulator. In this module, you will alternate 

flying hours and simulator hours for a total of 21 

hours in the aircraft and 40 hours in the simulator. 

At the end of this module, you will take a skill test 

to get a multi-engine instrument rating.

CPL & UPRT 

MODULE 5: 

30 PILOT IN COMMAND 

(PIC) FLYING HOURS 

These are 30 additional hours of timebuilding 

flying trips, including 10 hours 

accompanied by a backup pilot at no 

extra cost. 

MODULE 6: 

COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENSE AND 

UPSET PREVENTION AND RECOVERY 

TRAINING (CPL TRAINING AND UPRT) 

In this module, the training to obtain the Commercial Pilot 

License (CPL) continues. Here, the student performs 15 hours of 

visual flight in the P2006T. At this point, they have accrued 21 

hours of flying experience and 40 hours of simulator 

experience, so they’ll be very familiar with the aircraft operation. 

The goal of this part of the training is that the student becomes 

a commercial pilot, which means they will learn to fly with the 

notion of passengers on board. Passengers must be briefed and 

guided – also in emergencies, which take up a significant part 

of this module. CPL training concludes with a skill test to obtain 

the CPL. Upon approval of the skill test, you receive a CPL 

certificate, which is the commercial pilot license. 

UPRT flight training 

The UPRT (Upset Prevention and Recovery Training) is the final 

part of this module. This EASA-required certificate is mandatory 

for all pilots trained after 2018. Here The aircraft used is the 

military aerobatic trainer Zlin-242. You will fly with an aerobatic 

instructor who will take you through your passes. First, the 

instructor will demonstrate the maneuvers, then instruct you, 

and finally monitor you doing it yourself.

AIRLINE PILOT STANDARD 

MULTI-CREW COOPERATION 

MODULE 7: 

APS MCC 

The APS MCC (Airline Pilot Standard Multi-Crew Cooperation) course is an 

amazing module and one of the favorites of most of our pilot students. 

The aim of the course is to train you so that you reach a level at which you 

can enter directly into a type rating of any jet or turbine aircraft and start 

working as a first officer. 

In the initial phase of the course, you will be back in the classroom, 

focusing on working together as two pilots in one aircraft. The monitoring 

pilot and the flying pilot are both pilots, and both have particularly 

important tasks during a flight. You will learn a lot about cooperation, 

about crew resource management and solving any type of issue or 

problem. All your flight training will be done at our headquarters in Aarhus, 

Denmark, in our Airbus 320 FNPT II MCC simulator. 

The simulator is a one-to-one replica of an Airbus cockpit. Many parts in 

the simulator come directly from the Airbus factory, including the seats 

and the flight control of the aircraft. The 40 hours of training are split up 

into 10 intense sessions, each with extensive briefing and debriefing. 

After you have completed the course, you will pass an APS MCC exam, 

and you will get an exam certificat which is mandatory for the subsequent 

completion of any type rating.

INTERNATIONAL 

EDUCATION 

As part of their education, students at GreyBird Pilot Academy 

get the opportunity to fly internationally. In addition to flights to 

neighboring countries, the education program also gives you a 

chance to go to other GreyBird bases for weeks at a time. 

Swedish and Danish students visit Spain during wintertime and 

avoid fighting the freezing flying conditions in this region, while 

the Spanish students get to fly in actual IMC conditions in 

Scandinavia during summer, in addition, they get to spend flight 

hours in single-engine aircraft. 

Training in other countries than your own has many benefits; the 

culture is different, and as a pilot student, you will learn about 

the challenges that come with being based in another country. 

The local shops' opening hours are different, and the people 

you meet in the streets do not necessarily speak English, but 

you will have to find a way to communicate. 

In addition, the terrains in the different areas are very different. 

This adds a whole new dimension to flying for the students. 

For Spanish students, training in Scandinavia means water and 

changing weather. For Scandinavian students, training in Spain 

means terrain and a different ATC or local aircraft 

communicating in Spanish. In addition, the students get a 

chance to bond with their classmates while they are away and 

meet new friends who also wear GreyBird uniforms. There are 

no distractions when you are away – “just” a lot of flying, 

classmates and new exciting things to learn.

HOW TO GET STARTED 

At GreyBird, we recommend that you arrange a personal meeting with us. At least one person from the 

school management will attend. Afterwards, we will show you our school, and perhaps most 

importantly, you will get a chance to ask all your questions in a forum of only you and us. 

You can start your commercial pilot education at different bases and in different languages. Scan the 

QR code for an overview of the events of the year and see when the next programme that suits your 

wishes starts. 

The Requirements 

Free Admission Test 

Many people have an incorrect perception of what 

it takes to become a commercial pilot. Perhaps you 

know some of the requirements from the air force, 

or you may have heard urban legends. The 

requirements for flying airliners are far from the 

same as the requirements in the military. 

For instance, it is OK to wear glasses or contact 

lenses; there are no special requirements to your 

height; and a broken leg or any other broken bones 

will not be a hindrance. Your physical and mental 

health must be good, which is the case for most 

young people. You do not need to have top grades 

from school, and there are no requirements for 

specific subjects. In fact, you do not need a high 

school diploma at all. You must have passed what 

corresponds to the ninth-grade final exams of the 

primary and lower secondary school, and you must 

be at least 18 years old. To enroll at GreyBird, you 

also need to pass an admission test and produce a 

certificate of clean criminal record.

The admission test at GreyBird consists of an 

interview, written math and physics tests 

(corresponding to the exams in the ninth grade 

at Danish schools), a personality test and a test 

of logical thinking. The admission test at 

GreyBird Pilot Academy is free. The last step 

before you can start your education is a realistic 

financial plan. We offer help and guidance if you 

need to take a loan from the bank. In addition, 

we have payment plans and budgets which are 

a good place to start when you need to 

negotiate with the bank.

THE MEDICAL CHECK 

CLASS 1 MEDICAL 

When you have applied for enrollment at 

GreyBird, you need to visit an aeromedical 

center (AMC) to get your Class 1 medical which 

is the medical certificate that is required to 

become a commercial pilot. 

It is OK to wear 

glasses or contact 

lenses, and there are 

no special 

requirements to your 

height. 

We have a list of relevant AMCs and can provide 

information on how fast you are likely to get an 

appointment as well as the cost at the given AMC.

OUR AIRCRAFT FLEET 

We use Tecnam airplanes with a new and unique design. We have bought most of our aircraft directly 

from the factory, and we have flown them to our bases from Naples ourselves. The trip from Naples 

takes approx. 15 hours if the aircraft is heading for Denmark or Sweden. Europe is small when you’ve got 

wings. We use two types of airplanes when educating the pilots of the future: our single-engine planes
