6 — Vanguard, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2022 Akirun: Violence as new monarch attempts to access locked palace •One dead, mob stops fire fighters By Shina Abubakar ONE person was reportedly shot dead , yesterday, in Ikirun, Osun State, as the new Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Yinusa Akadiri, and a group of persons tried to force their way into the palace (that had been locked and sealed off with traditional charms). It was gathered that in the process of being resisted by some residents of the community, an imbroglio ensued and the victim was reportedly shot dead and part of the palace set ablaze. It will be recalled that Some people in the town, who had been calling for a reversal of Akadiri’s appointment and installation, allegedly locked up the palace to deny the installed Oba access to the palace. An eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, told Vanguard that some youths had gathered at the Oja-Oba area where the palace was located yesterday morning waiting for the Monarch's arrival. "As soon as the policemen arrived the palace main entrance with some herbalists, they neutralise the charm therein and forced the gate opened, but could not open the gate to the main palace building before some youths started pelting them with satchet water. "The police fired tear gar to disperse the mob but it was not successful, hence, there was an exchange of gunshots between the security operatives and the youths around the palace," the source added. While the shooting was going on, Vanguard gathered that some youths scaled the fence of the palace to set it ablaze. A Prince from Gboleru ruling house, Lukman Olatunji, it was gathered , was shot during the cross fire in front of the palace. An elder brother to the deceased, Prince Tajudeen Gboleru disclosed to newsmen that the deceased led some people towards the palace upon hearing that some persons attempted to forcefully gain access into the palace. According to him, I heard that there was gunshots in front of the palace by security operatives with some people and he was killed right in front of the palace. "I don't know who really shoot him but there was gunshot by soldiers and police and he was killed". Meanwhile, operatives of the Fire Service Department who were alerted to quench the fire at the palace were attacked by a mob outside, preventing the vehicle from accessing the scene. Three of the operatives, our correspondent gathered, were injured, taken to hospital and the vehicle abandoned at the scene. The department's spokesperson, Adekunle Ibrahim while confirming the incident, said the injured personnel are recuperating at a private hospital in the town. "We were alerted to the fire incident by police and personnel were deployed to quench the fire. The mother of the deceased is the lya-ljo of the church. Vanguard learned that the deceased had been declared missing for seven days, until his corpse was allegedly found in the prophet’s custody. He was alleged to have died after consuming a concoction given to him by the suspect. Meanwhile, the defendant was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus, on two counts bothering on deprivation of liberty and murder. The Police prosecutor, Nelson 4 kidnap suspects arrested in Ogun By James Ogunnaike ABEOKUTA—FOUR members of a notorious kidnap gang terrorising Abeokuta and its environs have been apprehended by operatives of Ogun State Police Command. The command's Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested, following a series of kidnap cases at Soyooye and Ibara Orile area of Abeokuta. Having received reports of kidnap cases in the aforementioned area, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed the Anti kidnapping team to move into the area and fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act. In compliance with the CP's directive, Guzape and Durumi districts, Airport road-Lugbe and Kubwa were supported by the defence and security forces. Wife stabs husband to death over sexual demands By Adeola Badru A 27year-old housewife, Odunayo Olumale, has reportedly stabbed her husband, Olamilekan Salahudeen, to death, for making sexual advances at her. The incident happened three months after the couple reconciled and reunited after a separation. Speaking in Ibadan while parading the suspect at the Oyo Police Command headquarter, Eleyele, Ibadan, yesterday, Police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, said the preliminary investigation showed that the deceased and his wife returned to their house in Oko-Oba area of Oyo town on the day of the incident after their threemonth separation. The killers, who attacked the community, last Sunday, also allegedly injured many. The Youth president of the community, Mr. Justice Kanikpo, cried that residents of the area are now relocating for fear of further attacks by the killer herdsmen. Kanikpo said: "People are moving out of the community as a result of fear because the herders always come to the area with AK45 riffle every day so people are afraid for their lives. They have killed two people. "I don’t know why the local government chairman is not bordered about the situation, so I am appealing to the government to come to our aid and rescue us from what we are facing." Meanwhile, the Chairman, Council of Chiefs and Elders, Agbeta II Tuabon Community, Kayonee Gbaranen, noted that farmers in the community can no longer access their farmlands due to the killer herdsmen. Osinachi was always afraid in her husband’s presence, brother tells court By Fortune Eromosele AMadu, BUJA—GODWIN brother of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, has told a Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Abuja, how the late songbird answered calls and spoke in fear, due to her husband’s (Peter Nwachukwu) presence. Led in evidence by the Prosecution counsel, Aderonke Imana, Madu also told the court how Nwachukwu allegedly abused Osinachi verbally and physically. He said: “Whenever we called Osinachi to hear from her, she answered with fear. "In 2019 August, my mom was sick, Osinachi begged Peter for my mom to come over, but he refused. Then Osinachi went to Pastor Enenche’s wife, Becky, of Dunamis Church, to prevail on Peter to allow Osinachi’s mom to come down to Abuja for treatment. “So, Becky met with Peter and begged him, before he accepted. Then when she came down to Abuja. The first day Peter sent his son, Ebube, to go get water for him with a cup. When he went to get the water, as a child, the water spilled from the cup. Peter beat Ebube mercilessly, just because the boy made a very little mistake. “When my mom heard his cry, she started telling Peter that he should take it easy on him, that he is a child and mistakes were part of their learning. I was there listening to my mom, and the next thing Peter did was insult my mom, calling her names that she was a witch and that she wants to scatter his family. Scolding Osinachi's mom “When he was saying all those things, my mum kept quiet and didn’t respond. The next day my sister was in the kitchen cooking, and she called on me to come and assist her, I was in the kitchen helping her to cut onions, Peter then came to the kitchen and asked what I was doing there. My sister said to him, please allow him he is helping me, he started insulting my sister, calling her names. That day he said to her ‘you know how I used to be to you,’ in my presence for the first time. “Then the second day, he did the same thing, I was in the kitchen helping my sister. He told her that I have warned you several times not to allow this your useless brother inside my kitchen, then my sister said to him, there are so many things to do in the kitchen. He repeated the same words, ‘you know how I used to be to you,’ in my presence for the second time. “The next day, I was in the kitchen helping my sister wash the plates, and he repeated the same words to my sister. When he said it I was very angry that very day, I said to Osinachi what does this man mean by these things he is saying, he heard what I said and started insulting me. “On the fourth day, I was with my mom in the room where she was when I was going to the kitchen, I saw him he raised his hands to hit my sister Osinachi, then I said if you try it, my mom heard my voice and she called me, Peter started insulting me again. “The next day, he chased me and my mom out of his house, I called Osinachi’s twin sister, Amarachi, and I told her what happened, she called one of her Delta woman friends, it was the woman that came and picked me and my mom. “It was in that woman’s house that we stayed for one month until she completed her treatment before we both went back to Enugu. Then I came back to Abuja, I started my music stuff then when I go to church on Sunday, that is when I normally see my sister(Osinachi) and whenever she’s talking to me and notices the presence of Peter, she will be afraid, she will quickly leave and tell me later." Narrates hospital experience before death “For years, it kept happening like that until March, this year, when my sister was sick, it was through my mom that I knew that my sister was sick. My mom said to me that I should go and find out what was happening to Osinachi. I went to their house, I knocked and knocked, Ebube came out the first son. When he came out he now asked Ebube who is that, Ebube said it was uncle Godwin. Peter said we should both leave the hospital, that we should go far to the garden as he was expecting somebody. “For more than twenty minutes we were outside so that he will tell us the person had come and we can go in. “We waited for so long before we now came to the room in the hospital where they were, then my sister Osinachi was begging the twin sister that she should not be angry, Amarachi said okay that there’s no problem. After that, Peter brought out a lab result and gave it to Osinachi and said to her, you don’t have cancer, despite the pain and what Osinachi was passing through right there, she smiled. “Peter went to the toilet to ease himself, Osinachi said to us that please we should go and check on the children, that she doesn’t want any torture from Peter again."
