ONE person was reportedly shot
dead , yesterday, in Ikirun, Osun
State, as the new Akirun of Ikirun, Oba
Yinusa Akadiri, and a group of persons
tried to force their way into the palace
(that had been locked and sealed off with
traditional charms).
It was gathered that in the process of
being resisted by some residents of the
community, an imbroglio ensued and
the victim was reportedly shot dead and
part of the palace set ablaze.
It will be recalled that Some people
in the town, who had been calling for a
reversal of Akadiri’s appointment and
installation, allegedly locked up the
palace to deny the installed Oba access
to the palace.
An eye witness, who pleaded
anonymity, told Vanguard that some
youths had gathered at the Oja-Oba area
where the palace was located yesterday
morning waiting for the Monarch's
arrival.
"As soon as the policemen arrived the
palace main entrance with some
herbalists, they neutralise the charm
therein and forced the gate opened, but
could not open the gate to the main
palace building before some youths
started pelting them with satchet water.
"The police fired tear gar to disperse
the mob but it was not successful, hence,
there was an exchange of gunshots
between the security operatives and the
youths around the palace," the source
added.
While the shooting was going on,
Vanguard gathered that some youths
scaled the fence of the palace to set it
ablaze.
A Prince from Gboleru ruling house,
Lukman Olatunji, it was gathered , was
shot during the cross fire in front of the
palace.
An elder brother to the deceased,
Prince Tajudeen Gboleru disclosed to
newsmen that the deceased led some
people towards the palace upon hearing
that some persons attempted to forcefully
gain access into the palace.
According to him, I heard that there
was gunshots in front of the palace by
security operatives with some people and
he was killed right in front of the palace.
"I don't know who really shoot him
but there was gunshot by soldiers and
police and he was killed".
Meanwhile, operatives of the Fire
Service Department who were alerted
to quench the fire at the palace were
attacked by a mob outside, preventing
the vehicle from accessing the scene.
Three of the operatives, our
correspondent gathered, were injured,
taken to hospital and the vehicle
abandoned at the scene.
The department's spokesperson,
Adekunle Ibrahim while confirming the
incident, said the injured personnel are
recuperating at a private hospital in the
town.
"We were alerted to the fire incident by
police and personnel were deployed to
quench the fire. However, a mob stopped
the vehicle from accessing the palace
and our personnel were attacked.

Okada ban: Tears, anger as

as Okada, watched helplessly as over
356 motorcycles impounded from them
were, yesterday, destroyed by officials
of the Federal Capital Territory
Administration, FCTA.
While the FCTA has not pronounced
a blanket ban on commercial
motorcycle operations, there are districts
where they are not allowed to operate.
Notwithstanding the restrictions,
defiant bike owners and operators have
remained adamant about flouting the
partial ban.

AKURE—An Akure Chief
Magistrate's Court, in Ondo
State, has ordered the remand of 45-
year-old Prophet, Samuel Alade-Emin,
for allegedly killing the son of an elder,
Olasupo Abiona, in his church.
The mother of the deceased is the
lya-ljo of the church.
Vanguard learned that the deceased
had been declared missing for seven
days, until his corpse was allegedly found
in the prophet’s custody.
He was alleged to have died after
consuming a concoction given to him
by the suspect.
Meanwhile, the defendant was
arraigned before Chief Magistrate,
Musa Al-Yunus, on two counts bothering
on deprivation of liberty and murder.

4 kidnap suspects arrested in Ogun

ABEOKUTA—FOUR members
of a notorious kidnap gang
terrorising Abeokuta and its environs
have been apprehended by operatives
of Ogun State Police Command.
The command's Police Public
Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi,
said the suspects were arrested, following
a series of kidnap cases at Soyooye and
Ibara Orile area of Abeokuta.
Having received reports of kidnap
cases in the aforementioned area, the
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole,
directed the Anti kidnapping team to
move into the area and fish out the
perpetrators of the dastardly act.
In compliance with the CP's directive,
Guzape and Durumi districts, Airport
road-Lugbe and Kubwa were supported
by the defence and security forces.
Senior Special Assistant to the FCT
Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and
Enforcement, Attah Ikharo, said the
Minister is worried about the flagrant
attitude of the operators who violate
traffic rules.
He said the administration only
allowed them to operate in interior
villages and estates, where possible, but
they have continued to violate the
restrictions with arrogance and constant
violent attacks on enforcement officers.

Akintimehin, said that the defendant
committed the offence between August
22 and 27, 2022 at Alagbado village via
Ore, Odigbo council area of the state.
According to Akintimehin, the prophet
unlawfully detained the deceased, who

elders in the church, one Olasupo
Abiona, in his custody against his wish,
which deprived him of his liberty.
Adetimehin also alleged that the
defendant in the process administered a
substance suspected to be poison to the
deceased which made him vomit blood
that led to his death.
The offences contravene sections 365
and 316(5) of the Criminal Law of Ondo
State, 2006.
The police prosecutor, therefore, urged
the court to remand the defendant at the
Olokuta Correctional Centre pending
the outcome of advice from the

were responsible for the kidnap of one Kafayat
Jelili of Ogo Titun area of Ibara Orile.

treatment in his church before he got
missing.
He added that he was part of the search
team looking for the deceased when he
was declared missing for almost six days
before the deceased walked into the
church premises.
The defendant denied that the victim
died in his church but in the hospital after
he was found.
According to him: "It was quite
unfortunate that he died in the hospital
after ten days of treatment,“
His counsel, A. Motunrayo, prayed the
court to grant her client bail in the most
liberal terms, because of his innocence.
But, in his response, the trial Chief
Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus, ordered
his remand, pending advice from the
state DPP.
Magistrate, Al-Yunus, therefore,
adjourned the case till February 9,
next year.
Wife stabs
husband to death
over sexual
demands

27year-old housewife, Odunayo
Olumale, has reportedly stabbed
her husband, Olamilekan
Salahudeen, to death, for making
sexual advances at her.
The incident happened three months
after the couple reconciled and
reunited after a separation.
Speaking in Ibadan while parading the
suspect at the Oyo Police Command
headquarter, Eleyele, Ibadan, yesterday,
Police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, said
the preliminary investigation showed that
the deceased and his wife returned to their
house in Oko-Oba area of Oyo town on
the day of the incident after their threemonth
separation.
Osifeso said one Ismaila Tijani reported
at Dubar Divisional Police headquarters
that his son named Olamilekan
Salahudeen age 35 was stabbed to death
with a knife by his wife Odunayo.
It was gathered that the deceased made
a move to have sexual intercourse with his
wife who rejected, “ a struggle ensued and
the deceased collected and smashed his
wife’s phone and in retaliation, the
deceased was stabbed on the chest, leading
to his death

herdsmen
invade Rivers
community,

TWO persons were reportedly
killed by suspected herdsmen,
who invaded Agbeta II Tuabon
Community in Ebubu Clan, Eleme
Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The killers, who attacked the
community, last Sunday, also allegedly
injured many.
The Youth president of the
community, Mr. Justice Kanikpo, cried
that residents of the area are now
relocating for fear of further attacks by
the killer herdsmen.
Kanikpo said: "People are moving
out of the community as a result of fear
because the herders always come to
the area with AK45 riffle every day so
people are afraid for their lives. They
have killed two people.
"I don’t know why the local
government chairman is not bordered
about the situation, so I am appealing
to the government to come to our aid
and rescue us from what we are facing."
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Council
of Chiefs and Elders, Agbeta II Tuabon
Community, Kayonee Gbaranen,
noted that farmers in the community
can no longer access their farmlands
due to the killer herdsmen.
"The people no longer go to their
farms because what they planted has
been destroyed, they are now buying
crops and foodstuffs that they normally
produce because they can no longer
enter their farms. They are afraid, and
most of the people have started leaving
the community.
