Senate refuses to approve N7bn refund to Kebbi By Henry Umoru ABUJA—THE Senate has refused to approve a promissory note of N7 billion for Kebbi State Government for projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government and has given the state government two weeks to defend claims. However, the Senate approved N18,663,843,119.39 for Yobe State and N2,470,525,729.54 for Taraba State, totally N21,134,368,848.93 for the two states for projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government. In Taraba State, the project was the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Bali- Serti- Gembu road which is 252 kilometers while the projects in Yobe State were Damataru- Magzu Road section of Damataru- Biu Adamawa Road within Yobe which is 77 kilometers; Nguru- Machina Road (57 km) and Kaliyari- Bayamari- Geidam road (109km). The refusal of that of Kebbi was a sequel to the consideration of the report of the Senator Clifford Ordia, led Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. Baby factory: Police rescue 6 girls, 6 months old baby in Nasarawa LAFIA—OPERATIVES of the Nasarawa State Police Command, have uncovered a suspected baby factory operating under the guise of an orphanage in Karu Local Government Area, LGA, of the state. The operatives have arrested four suspects in the facility and also rescued six young girls and a baby of about six months. Traffic: Niger begs NNPCL to establish truck transit parks MINNA—THE government of Niger yesterday urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, to establish truck transit parks in some strategic parts of the state to reduce traffic on highways. It identified towns such as Tafa, Suleja, Mokwa, Bida, Tegina, Lambata and Minna, as major areas to be given attention in that regard. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mineral Resources in Niger, Abubakar Idris, made the call during the meeting of National Council on Hydrocarbons organised by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in collaboration with the state government. According to him, the establishment of the parks in the identified areas will reduce traffic on highways and generate revenue for state and the country at large.
