Chairman of the union in the Federal University of Technology, FUTA, Akure, Prof. Olayinka Awopetu, said this during a protest rally to express their dissatisfaction over the Federal Government's half salary payment after its eight months strike. Awopetu said it is unfair for members of the union to bear the brunt of the failure of the government. He said: "We did not go on strike because we wanted to go on strike, or happy to go on strike, but because the government failed to do its part, so we can't be punished for that. "If you go on legal strike, you shouldn't be punished for it but we are being punished by withholding our salaries. So why is the government now criminalising a strike that was forced on our members? "The government wants to turn the table against ASUU, but they've failed this time because what we are fighting for is in the public domain. "They've been telling halftruths in a bid to play the divideand-rule game. "It is illegal for the Federal Government to casualise the academics in Nigeria. Ngige must be removed Similarly, the ASUU chapter of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to remove the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige over the protracted ASUU/government negotiation on revitalizing University education. The Union said this after its congress held inside the University campus. Members of the union were armed with placards with inscriptions such as 'Lecturers are not slaves, 'Invest in Education', 'A nation that values education is a nation that develops', 'IPPIS is a scam', among others. Ekiti poll: Tribunal reserves judgment his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, urged the Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate, Chief Segun Oni. Oyebanji maintained that Oni and his party, the SDP, have failed woefully to sufficiently discharge the burden of proof on them to convince the Tribunal that the election did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. Oni and the SDP are the 1st and 2nd Petitioners in case. The Respondents are Oyebanji (1st), the APC (2nd), Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, in his capacity as the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (3rd), INEC (4th) and the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye (5th). Oyebanji and Afuye (1st and 5th Respondents) through their counsel, Prof. Kayode Olatoke (SAN), told the Tribunal that their written address was dated 29th October and filed on 30th October and adopted same before the Tribunal as evidence. IPoB blames Enugu traditional rulers, PGs, youths for herdsmen attacks By Chimaobi Nwaiwu NNEWI—THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, yesterday said that most Enugu State communities that worked against the Eastern Security Network, ESN, are today the ones facing the attacks of killer herdsmen. IPoB singled out Aguamede community, in Eha-Amufu, Isiuzo Council Local Area of Enugu State being presently attacked by herdsmen as one of such communities that worked against ESN. A statement by IPoB's Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, blamed the traditional rulers, town union leaders, and some youths used to work against ESN for their woes. IPoB's statement read: "The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPoB, under the command and leadership of our great indefatigable liberator, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, has been drawn to the constant and numerous massacre of our people in Aguamede community Eha-Amufu in Isiuzo Council area of Enugu State. "The traditional rulers, Presidents General and youth leaders of Eha-Amufu and its environs contributed in heavy measure to the massacre in their community. "These people mentioned joined hands with Nigerian government to chase ESN operatives out from their community in their desperation to ensure that the Fulani take over the community and ESN operatives were forced out and the Fulani came in to massacre them. This time, their people are being massacred and ESN will not be there to rescue them because they allowed terrorists to move into their communities. "When ESN was established, a batch of the operatives of the security outfit was sent into their communities but ESN was attacked by the Eha-Amufu community and many operatives of ESN and IPoB members were killed and detained by the community and their youths. "The communities involved have discovered scores of dead bodies who were massacred by Fulani jihadists and foot soldiers and have realized that they goofed working against ESN. Enugu govt condemns attack on farmers in Eha Amufu Meantime,following these unfortunate attacks on farmers in their farm settlements at Aguamaede and Mgbuji communities in Eha Amufu, Isi- Uzo Local Government Area by suspected herders, the Enugu State Government has condemned, in its entirety, the dastardly act which resulted in causalities with some indigenes of the communities displaced. In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the State Government called on heads of security agencies to rise to the challenge and deploy more personnel to the affected communities to provide adequate security for life and property. Prof. Ortuanya stated that the State Government, in its determination to put an end to the lingering crisis between farmers and herders in Eha Amufu, will meet with their leaders to decisively resolve the contentious issues that might have led to the recent attacks. The State Government condoled the families of the deceased and sympathized with the victims who sustained injuries as well as those who were displaced. The statement disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has released the sum of N10 million for the immediate needs of the victims in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp and further committed to paying all the medical bills of those receiving treatments in the hospital. Why we're contesting Abuja Court judgment —Enugu LP By Anayo Okoli ENUGU—LABOUR Party in Enugu State has explained why it appealed the judgment of Abuja Federal High Court which sacked its governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga and ordered another primary election. The party described the judgment as a miscarriage of justice. The party said the ruling of the Federal High Court contradicted the spirit of the Constitution and the Electoral Act. They accused the ruling PDP in the state of sponsoring the legal tissue to distract them from their focused campaign toward the 2023 elections in the state. The Abuja Court had nullified the governorship primary that produced Chijioke Edeoga was the party’s candidate on the ground that the plaintiff, Captain Evaristus Nnaji was excluded from the primary election. The court ordered the party to conduct another primary election within 14 days from the date of the ruling. We didn’t hear anything again until the Labour Party headquarters was served with originating summons. “This time around, he didn’t join Chijioke Edeoga. He sued only the Labour Party and INEC. And in his case, he told the court that the Labour Party promised to make him the sole governorship candidate in Enugu State, and this was after Edeoga had emerged.“ Uzodimma approves promotion of Imo civil servants problem to be solved in the society, but to be part of the solution.
