ENJOY BEING A LEADER
Once again it’s that exciting time of the year! A time to rejuvenate, reenergise, refresh, recharge, revitalise
and retrospect Rotary. Old gives way to new and a plethora of new leaders, ideas, energy
and creativity takes over all of us. This annual change of guards is what keeps Rotary fresh, relevant
and going strong.
Club Presidents taking up the reins are under great stress as the role of leadership is new, expectations
are piled high over their heads and they are handed a long list of goals. To be successful they
are advised to be motivated, to plan, to give their best and work hard. But above all this the best
thing they can do is to enjoy their role as a leader.
Being the President is exactly like singing a song. If you are on stage and not enjoying singing, due
to whatever reason like wrong song selection or bad music accompaniment, then the audience will
certainly not relish your song and will eagerly wait for it to get over. But if you enjoy the song, then
small mistakes will also be ignored as your happy spirit will carry the song through. Same goes for
presidentship and your club - if you are happy being a leader, members will enjoy your leadership.
Enjoy this special song that has been given to you and your club will celebrate a successful Rotary
year.
Rotary thrives not necessarily because of the Rotary Foundation, or membership growth or even projects.
Rotary is strong primarily by the existence of strong vibrant clubs and committed Club Presidents.
The clubs are the core of the organisation and weak, non functioning clubs are a liability to
Rotary. When I ask new members the reason for joining our club invariably they state interesting and
fun meetings and healthy fellowship. A few did mention projects while nobody had any clue about the
other important facets of Rotary. A club that has a good bonding, meets regularly and enthusiastically,
is better for the future of Rotary than a non- regular club doing a Global Grant.
In short, if Rotary is to grow it will only be on the basis of strong, vibrant and attractive clubs which
have steady membership, great fellowship and of course does meaningful community service. The
fate of Rotary falls on clubs and Club Presidents who work at the important grassroots level and not
on other more decorated officers.
So Presidents get your act together and give your best performance. And all the while don’t forget to
enjoy Rotary and being the leader. Good luck and Godspeed !

Dear Readers,
It is indeed a great honour to be the Newsletter Editor for the very first Joint Rotary Rotaract District
Newsletter and it is an immense pleasure to launch this first edition for RIY 2021-2022.
I am delighted to bring you this month’s newsletter. I am really encouraged by the enthusiasm of the
team members to bring it all together. There is very strong evidence now emerging that members’
have a strong spirit and our practices are improving year on year.
We are seeing more projects with an increasing amount of work being undertaken by clubs. Thereby,
I congratulate all the new Presidents, Secretaries and Office bearers to have a good year and
that may your club succeed in all that it wants to achieve at an exponential rate.
The beginning of the Rotary International year is at its heart a fantasy of newness and clean slates—
of the chance to do things differently and with more attention to purpose. In reality, it’s also one of
the most challenging times of year for many of us, as we return from COVID-19 pandemic 2nd wave
and fly straight into the plate-glass window of an overfull schedule. As I talk with friends and colleagues
about plans, the word “hectic” keeps coming up, and I think we should find that a little worrisome.
In this issue, we will recount the various projects and activities in which DG Santosh Pradhan, DRR
Vatsal Khimasiya, other dignitaries and members from Rotary and Rotaract attended various events
and assemblies and how members were actively involved since the start of the year. Two main
points will be the club installation ceremonies’ highlights and also the huge success of some of the
community driven projects. Furthermore, we will have a chance to read and understand about the
KOSH and Parisamvad -The Rotaract Podcast.
Our second issue is a call to take a breath and remember what it is that we’re doing, and why. You
will encounter many different angles on the idea of presenting massive achievements of some of the
rotaractors on personal and professional fronts on which they are built. We don’t often have time to
consider all the underlying stuff that gives our work shape, character, and meaning, and that time
won’t ever appear on its own. But we can choose it.
A huge thank you to all the persons who contributed writing the wonderful and inspiring quotes, captions,
articles, without which there wouldn’t have been this newsletter issue.
Last but not least, I would like to thank DRR Vatsal Khimasiya, Rotary Editor Rtn Mona Sitwala,
My Fellow Editor Rtr Nami Jain, Graphics and Media team and the local board and club members
for their everlasting support throughout the creation of this edition.

Hello, Namaskar!
Time flies real fast, it feels like a few days back
when you all selected me as your incoming leader.
The time has finally come to actually lead the district
and get down to work.
The year gone by was very tough, in many senses.
Sunetra and myself would like to appreciate and
acknowledge the efforts and energy put in by IPDG
Prashant and Hita Jani. The team pinnacle achieved great new milestones under the
able and assertive leadership of IPDG Prashant Jani. They together proved "Rotary
Opens Opportunities" through the innovative work and projects carried out during the
year.
Friends, now we need to take the work a step further as we take our responsibilities towards
being an organisation with a mission. A mission to spread peace and prosperity
amongst the people across the world. This is going to be the year of great expectations,
as we will have an Indian, Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta at the helm. RI
President Shekhar is a man of vision and has passion for service, which explains his chosen
theme : "Serve to Change Lives".
Friends, as the times are changing and we are getting used-to to a new normal, it also
calls to think out of the box, when we plan our year. The District Team and myself will always
be available for the proactive and progressive suggestions and implementation.
You all are welcome to make the change as we are going to be called the Change Makers.
Needless to say the change starts from self, so let's make a promice to ourselves,
that we will be the change and take our district, our Rotary to new heights, while we
"Serve to Change Lives!" Take Care, Be Safe, Get Vaccinated!

Hello, ChangeMakers!
The pandemic has made horrific impact on the
way we live and breathe today, It still feels like a
dream when I was selected, hardly a month after
we have been living in Lockdown mode. This past
year has had been full of difficulties and opportunities.
As Harvey Spectre says “You win a No-Win Situation by rewriting the rules.” Rotarians
and Rotaractors changed the rules and adapted each and every situation, be it online
meetings or virtual marathons. But now is the time to be Change Makers and enable
3060 to Soar Beyond The Horizon.
Friends, this monthly Newsletter is no ordinary one, for the first time Rotaract is coming
on the same page of Rotary. The Rotaract District Team has embedded itself with
the core value of being a Rotaractor First Organization and I assure you that you will
always be our Priority.
Friends, this year one of the major focus areas for Rotaract will be Public Image and
Branding Rotaract Rightly with proper adherence to the visual identity guidelines for all
logos and wordmarks.
As Batman rightly said, “It is not who I am Underneath, but what I do, Defines Me.” Let
us grab this opportunity to define ourselves as Serve to Change Lives!
Vatsal Khimasiya, DRR 2021-22

response and is a trustee of ShelterBox,

surgeries in South Asia. He is also the architect of the TEACH Program, which
promotes literacy throughout India and has reached thousands of schools.
A Rotary member since 1984, he has served Rotary as director, member or chair
of several committees, zone coordinator, training leader, member of The Rotary
Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisers, and district governor. He is also the
chair of Rotary Foundation (India).
Shekhar Mehta has received Rotary's Service Above Self Award and The Rotary
Foundation's Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Awards.
He and his wife, Rashi, are Major Donors and members of the Bequest Society.
As we focus on membership in Rotary this month, I ask you to help make
history this year. For more than 20 years, our membership has stood at 1.2
million. Rotary is a vibrant organization with a 116-year history, members in
more than 220 countries and geographic areas, and a rich legacy of work
in polio eradication and other humanitarian programs. Rotary has changed
so much in our own lives and the lives of others. As we Serve to Change
Lives, don’t you think Rotary could have an even greater impact on the
world if more people were practicing Service Above Self?
#My vision is to increase Rotary membership to 1.3 million by July 2022,
and the call to action is simple: #Each One, #Bring One. This year, I want
every Rotarian and Rotaractor to introduce a new person into their club.
We are a membership organization, and members are our greatest asset.
You are the ones who contribute so generously to The Rotary Foundation.
You are the ones who dream big to bring good into the world through
meaningful projects. And of course, you are the ones who have put the
world on the brink of eradicating
polio.
As we make membership a priority
this year, let us focus on diversity
by reaching out to younger
people and especially to
women. Every club should celebrate
its new members, and every
Rotarian who sponsors a member will be personally recognized by me.
And those who are successful in bringing in 25 or more members will be
part of our new Membership Society.
Even as we share the gift of Rotary with others, let us be sure to engage
these new members, because an engaged Rotarian is an asset forever.
And remember that engaging our current members and keeping them in
our clubs is just as important as bringing in newcomers. Let us also be
ready to form new clubs, especially flexible ones. I am very bullish on clubs
that hold virtual or hybrid meetings, and satellite clubs and cause-based
clubs can also be very effective ways of growing Rotary.
As you grow more, you will be able to do more. Let us keep empowering
girls through our work in each of the areas of focus. Scholarships for girls,
toilets in schools, health and hygiene education — there is so much we can
do. Projects focused on the environment are also attracting interest the
world over. Do participate in these projects locally and internationally to
make this world a better place for us and for all species.
Each of you is a Rotary brand ambassador, and all of the wonderful work
done by Rotarians around the world needs to be shared outside the Rotary
community. Use social media to tell your friends, colleagues, and relatives
the stories of Service Above Self.
Finally, I’m challenging every club, during the coming year, to plan at least
one Rotary Day of Service that will bring together volunteers from inside
and outside Rotary and will celebrate and showcase the work of your club
in your community. Visit rotary.org to find out more about all of these initiatives,
along with other ways to Serve to Change Lives.

That is what we may want to call it and RID 3060 DG Santosh Pradhan and
DRR Vatsal Khimasiya accidentally ended up in the same breakout room.
Ahhh! That must have felt wonderful to see a familiar or rather known face,
having someone you know in a room full of strangers gives an added boost
of confidence to put your points forward because you know that someone’s
got your back!
This is the first International Assembly for RID 3060 where the 2021-22
District Governor & District Rotaract Representative both got the a chance
to attend together.
The District Assembly, aptly named “Amurt Shiksha”, held on
25th of June, 2021 was hosted by the Rotary Club of Udhna, the
home club of DGE Santosh Pradhan. Keeping the ongoing pandemic
conditions in mind it was held online over Zoom. This district
training programme aimed at priming the leaders and officers
on their roles and goals for the coming year and how they
could go about the job at hand.
The Seminar was given a good start by the uplifting recitation of the Rotary song by
members of RC Udhna. After a Rotary mood was established DGE Santosh Pradhan
took over to welcome one and all to the District Assembly Seminar. In his address he
highlighted the focus areas for the coming year and how the teams can work together
to fulfil the vision of the incoming RI President Shekhar Mehta.
District Governor Prashant Jani talked in detail of the good work carried out be the
District during 2020-21. Giving information on the numerous service projects which
were undertaken, formation of new clubs, record TRF collection and membership
growth he congratulated Club Presidents and Rotarians for giving their best performance.
Wishing DGE Santosh the very best he assured him of his constant support.
District Trainer PDG Prafull Bhatt came over to state the purpose of the event and
why it is important to attend and learn from the training session. He talked on the importance
of the various roles at Club and at District level and the goals that were set
for them.
The keynote address of the day was given by RID Kamal Sanghvi. He mesmerised
everyone with his powerful oratory and fluent speech. He stressed the need for each
member to get one member into Rotary.
The slow but steady decline of world membership was a issue of great concern and
though Rotary is growing in India the rate of member retention are worrisome. A good
number of people joining Rotary get disenchanted and many bid adieu in a few years.
He also highlighted the need for relevant projects which gave a positive Public Image
to Rotary.
Next on the agenda was a panel discussion on the theme “Grow more Do more” and it
was moderated by PDG Ashish Roy. The panelists were questioned on various aspects
of membership growth and service projects. DS Bhavesh Shah then made necessary
announcements and a vote of thanks was proposed by DS Devendra Lalwala.
It was then time for the actual training to commence and participants were broken up
into respective groups and they joined the break out sessions to learn of their specific
roles. The groups included those for Club President, secretary, treasurer and President
Elect. The groups according to avenues comprised Service, Membership, The
Rotary Foundation, Public Image and Literacy. The break out sessions were conducted
by the DGE, DGN, DGND, DRFC, DS’s, PDG’s and other well qualified faculty.
Group reports were then given by group representatives.
The groups collected into one once again and PDG Devang Thakore took up the issue
of Literacy and gave his views on “Literacy – the next challenge”. District Co
Trainer PP Bankim DAVE motivated incoming leaders through his zealous talk “You
are the change makers”. District Training Advisor PDG Devendra Shastri addressed
the gathering through his talk “Came to learn – go out and serve”. These accomplished
achievers shared their thoughts and experiences with the new generation of
leaders.
The training event concluded by the closing remarks given by DGE Santosh Pradhan.
He requested all to work diligently and to lift RID 3060 to even greater heights. To end
the programme a vote of thanks was proposed by DS Janak Jariwala.

"We have not inherited the earth from our
ancestors, but we have borrowed it from our
children” With this philosophy on his mind
District Governor Santosh Pradhan has
signed a memorandum between RID 3060
and “Hearts at Work Foundation” by the
name of “Mission Pruthvi” The aim of this
MOU is to create Miyawaki Forests, Model
Railway Stations, Urban Forests and introduce
Environment Protection to Rotarians
and Rotaractors through crash courses.
This may be the only instance when a Rotary District Governor before taking
charge signed an important MOU for Environment. As Rotary has introduced Environment
as a focus area this project is very relevant. 3060’s jurisdiction
stretching from South Gujarat to Saurashtra will help this joint effort to make an
impact on the Eco system by creating Urban Forests and creating awareness of
environmental protection.
This initiative with help to get more and more people involved and it will reach
the rural and urban areas making an enormous difference for the distressed environment.
At a time when pollution levels and global warming has reached unbelievable
levels this project will aim to lessen the burden on nature and create a
love for trees in the general populace.
DG Santosh says “Let us do our bit to save the environment!
Thank you Veer Viral Desai. Together with the might of Rotary District 3060, I am
sure we will make a change! Saving Earth is equal to Serving to Change Lives!”
It has been a challenging year and an inspiring year too. It is Rotary who connected
the world while opening opportunities. Here, we will hear stories from the Rotaract &
Rotary Leaders of 2020-21 from R. I. Dist. 3060 of how they tackled these once in a
lifetime difficult situations. This podcast series features 2020-21 RI President Holger
Knaack too. These Stories are inspiring and are worth learning from but most of them
are experiences which are worth listening to. https://open.spotify.com/

outgoing District Governor
Prashant Jani. The venue and
hosts of the ceremony was the
Rotary Club of Vapi, the Mecca of
Rotary International District 3060.
The Rotary year starts on the 1st of
July and on this day as a rule all
District Governor Elects become the
District Governor automatically. DG
Santosh Pradhan chose this very
day to get collared symbolically also
and thus on the 1st of July he was
handed the baton of RID 3060 by
President RC Udhna Manish Shah
welcomed all who had gathered
for this ceremony and due to the
prevailing conditions of the pandemic participation was kept at a minimum.
Along with installation of DG the new DRR Vatsal Khimasiya was also installed
as head of Rotaract District 3060. Outgoing DRR Swapnil Gaud
took centre stage to speak about the year gone by. He stated that though it
was a tough year Rotaract 3060 put up a very good show and he was
pleased and satisfied with the performance. He said the experience he
gained would help him a lot in the years to come.
Outgoing DG Prashant Jani in his
turn highlighted the massive work
conducted by RID 3060 through the
year. It excelled in all the avenues of
service with record breaking projects,
good membership growth and
again a record TRF collection. He
thanked all members, Presidents
and district officers for working hard and delivering good results.
The Collars were then exchanged in the presence of PRID Kalyan
Banerjee and the baton of governorship was thus passed from one to another.
The DRR’s also similarly exchanged their collars. Newly installed
DRR Vatsal Khimasiya made his acceptance speech and promised to add
to the good work carried out in the past year.
DG Santosh Pradhan accepted the post with grace and promised to work
with zeal and commitment to take the District to newer heights. He sought
the blessings of our international leaders and senior leaders and outlined
his vision for the coming year.
Best wishes were offered by PRID Manoj Desai, PDG Parag Sheth, PDG
Ashish Roy, PDG Prafull Bhatt (on zoom) and they all motivated and inspired
the new DG and offered their support.
Past RI President Kalyan Banerjee gave a very galvanizing and encouraging
speech which filled the audience with motivation and zest. He offered
blessing to DG Santosh and wished him good luck and motivated him to go
ahead and lead from the front. A hearty vote of thanks was proposed by PP
Janak Jariwala to bring the installation ceremony to a close. Arrangements
by RC Vapi and President Mohit Rajani were flawless.
Donating and donating consistently is the hallmark of this generous couple from RC
Bharuch Narmada Nagari, Arch Klump Society members, Punam and PDG Parag
Sheth. In the very first few days of the Rotary year 2021-22 they have donated 33,000
USD to the focus area of Disease Prevention and Treatment in a Global Grant of Rajkot
Midtown. Over the years they have donated more than 500,000 USD to the Rotary
Foundation.
Rotary is the great institution it is because of such selfless gestures of Rotarians, and
RID 3060 is proud and salutes these Rotarians.
The Grant Management Seminar,
hosted by the Rotary Club of Vapi,
was held on line on 9th July,
2021. The Seminar was called to
order by host Club President Dr.
Mohit Rajani. DG Santosh Pradhan
started the proceedings by
making the opening remarks and
highlighted the purpose of the
Seminar and importance of grants in Rotary.
The key note address was given by RRFC PDG TN Subramaniam and he
spoke on doing good in the world through the Rotary Foundation. He
stressed on the massive service projects undertaken by the TRF and the
reach of service projects in the society. PDG Ruchir Jani then gave information
on how clubs and districts can qualify for the various grants available
in Rotary. This was followed by a
round of question and answers in
which members took active part and
many queries were solved.
In the next session PP Sanju Patel
took up the issue of stewardship and
grant management. He spoke in detail,
citing examples of how clubs need to
be transparent and meticulous when taking and executing any grants.
This again ended with a question
and answer round wherein members
got a chance to clear their
doubts.
In the third session TRF grants,
Global grants and District grants
was taken up by PP Ketan Patel.
He informed listeners about the
various details and criteria concerning these grants. Session was followed
by a question and answers round.
In the fourth session financial management
and reporting of the
grants was taken up by PDG Anish
Shah. He stressed on the need for
proper and transparent reporting
and proper financial management
of the grant. Question put up by
participants were answered by
him. DRFC PDG Ashish Ajmera then highlighted the District Giving Plan
and answered several queries
which arose through the talk.
DG Santosh Pradhan gave the
closing remakes and summarised
the various topics and talks. Meeting

by the event chair Kalpesh
Vora.
