UTM Offshore, JGC, Technip
Energies Sign agreements on
Nigeria’s FLNG
NIGERIA’S QUEST for energy
transition received a huge
boost on Wednesday as an
indigenous firm, UTM Offshore
Limited, signed agreements with
three technical partners, Kellogg
Brown and Root, KBR, UK; Japan
Gas Corporation, JGC, and
Technip Energies Limited, for the
commencement of the Front End
Engineering Design, FEED, for
Nigeria’s first Floating Liquefied
Natural Gas, FLNG, facility. The
agreements were signed at a brief
but colorful event at the Hilton
Park Lane, London, UK.
The Front End Engineering
Design, FEED, contract with the
three firms essentially entails
conducting for UTM Offshore
Limited, various studies to figure
out technical issues and estimate
rough investment costs for the
FLNG facility prior to the
Engineering, Procurement, and
Construction, EPC, phase of the
project. The timeline for this phase
of the FLNG project is 10
months.
The FEED contract signing
is a follow-up to the successful
execution of the pre-FEED
agreement between UTM
Offshore Limited with JGC, a
Tribunal didn't order INEC to
produce Adeleke's certificate
—PDP
By Shina Abubakar
OSOGBO—THE Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, in
Osun State, has described as
untrue, media reports that the
ongoing election petition
tribunal ordered the
Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, to produce
the certificate of the governorelect,
Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The party in a statement by its
Chairman, Dr. Adekunle
Akindele, said the All
Progressives Congress, APC, and
Governor AdegboyegaOyetola
merely sought to subpoena the
Resident
Electoral
Commissioner, REC, in the state.
The party said: "As at
Wednesday, the last sitting of the
Tribunal, there was no order of
the Tribunal compelling INEC or
the governor-elect, Senator
Ademola Adeleke to produce any
document or certificate as it was
obvious that the APC were not
serious with their case. At any
rate, all the documents of
Senator Adeleke are in the public
domain and verifiable.
"Secondly, the documents he
submitted to INEC in 2018 was
what the APC used to persecute
him and sponsored malicious
cases against him, in respect of
which he had been vindicated
up to the Supreme Court. We
want to assure members of the
Procurement, and Construction
firm. The Pre-FEED scope was
completed within four months
from the commencement date.
KBR provided due diligence on
the JGC scope by conducting a
third-party review of all
deliverables from JGC during the
Pre-FEED phase. UTM
Offshore Limited entered into
the pre-FEED agreement with
JGC and KBR in May 2021.
At the signing ceremony, the
Managing Director and Chief
Executive Officer of UTM
Offshore Limited, Mr. Julius
Rone, underscored the fact that
like most other nations of the
world, Nigeria is keen on, and
working assiduously towards
achieving energy transition.
He said Nigeria’s energy
transition necessarily should
start with moving from huge
dependence on crude oil to gas.
“Like I have said in several fora,
for us in Africa, especially Nigeria,
energy transition is steeped in
harnessing our abundant gas
resources,” he said, adding, “At
UTM Offshore, we completely
agree with President
Muhammadu Buhari that given
Nigeria’s potential of about 600
trillion cubic feet of gas, the
commodity has the enormous
potential to diversify our
country’s economy.”
public that the APC and Oyetola
are trying to fetch water from a
dry well by their petition at the
tribunal, which is a mirage.
"At the beginning of the
election petition tribunal
particularly at the pre- hearing
session stage, it was
unanimously agreed by counsel
to the petitioner and respondents
that all documents shall be
tendered and admitted during
trial, while objections to their
admissibility will be taken at the
final address stage. This formed
part of the pre-hearing report of
the tribunal. It is also part of the
pre-hearing report that 24 hours
before any hearing date, the party
conducting hearing and calling
witnesses shall file and serve a
schedule to that effect.
"May we inform members of the
public that since the beginning
of hearing at the tribunal, the
APC and Oyetolalawyers have
been helplessly wandering and
dancing around their petition. No
single witness has ever been
called. The public can do a fact
check on this at the tribunal as
they would discover that the
petitioners have been indolent
and unserious with their case.
"We, hereby, appeal to members
of the public to disregard the lies
and propaganda of the APC as
the last kick of a dying horse. Let
them not distract us from the
swearing-in preparations as their
petition is dead on arrival."
Wake Up The Giant enters
final stage
By ‘Niyi Okiri
ACADEMIC REALITY show,
of the South-West, but finally, to the
glory of God, history is made in the
South-West region of Nigeria. We
are setting the pace for academic
reality show in Nigeria and Africa.
"The idea is to draw government
attention to the dearth of English
and Literature in Nigerian schools,
awaken reading culture among
youths in order to curb the trend of
cheating to pass examinations,
which has become the order of the
