Edo community uncovers oil theft in private oil company operation
By Ozioruva Aliu
ENIN CITY—THE vigilance
Bof the people of Gelegele
community in Ovia North East
local government in Edo State
has led to the discovery of illegal
bunkering at Dubri Oil’s OML
96 in Ovia North East Local
Government Area of Edo State
8inches flowing line being
illegally drilled.
It was gathered that the
company discovered the illegal
tapping after it noticed a sudden
decline in its daily production and
then carried out an investigation
with information from the
community.
A staff of the company who
does not want his name
mentioned since he is not
authorized to speak for the
company said: "About four days
ago, we noticed a drastic decline
in our production and we tried to
troubleshoot from our flow station
and our manifold to see whether
there is any technical issue that
should cause this decline.
"But all efforts to get what was
going on were unsuccessful and
we kept on searching until we
got some informants in the
community who are loyal to the
company. The informant told us
they have information that
people came to tap from our
crude oil through the flow lines.
"When we heard the
information, we quickly swung
into action to see the lines. We
excavated it and saw it from one
of our wells, GGNorth 1, to the
flow station and we discovered
that nothing was wrong with the
lines. We think they made an
attempt earlier on the line and
found out it was not a suitable
place to tap.
"So, they covered it up and
moved forward towards the
Gelegele community
immediately after our manifold
that collects all the oil that comes
from the Well. So, from the
2023 poll: We're supporting all presidential
candidates —CAN Chairman
L
AGOS—AHEAD of 2023
general election, the
Chairman, Lagos chapter of the
Christian Association of Nigeria,
CAN, Dr. Stephen Adegbite, has
disclosed that the body has no
singular presidential candidate
it had concluded plans to
support, saying CAN is
supporting all flagbearers vying
to become President
Muhammadu Buhari's
successor.
Adegbeite said that CAN
could not support anyone
considering that all candidates
vying for the presidential seat
were Nigerians and competent
to lead the country after 2023
when President Buhari's tenure
would elapse.
He noted that the leader the
country currently needs was
someone who could lead
Nigerians aright and deliver the
dividends of democracy that
everyone in the country currently
yearns for.
Adegbite, who stated this at the
9th Annual General Conference
of the Cherubim and Seraphim
Unification Church of Nigeria,
Lagos State Chapter led by
Special Apostle Segun Adio,
expressed optimism that God will
take control of the country and
that Nigeria will not disintegrate
but remain one indivisible entity.
“As Christians, we are not going
to push any candidate, all the
candidates belong to us but I can
assure you that God is going to
give us a man after his own
heart”.
“God will take control of our
country and Nigeria will remain
an indivisible entity. We just need
somebody that can lead us right
and give us the dividends of
democracy and we must pray,
manifold, we have two production
headers, one is 8inches while the
other is 6inches. So, the 8inches
is where the GG North one is
flowing through. The GG North
1 is a less gas well and we believe
it has the information and that is
where they chose to tap from."
once we pray, God will answer our
prayers” he added.
“Today is a day of celebration of
all Christians, and a day of coming
together of Christians and that is
why I am here as the chairman of
CAN to celebrate with them.
I thank God for the C&S
Unification Church of Nigeria and
God will continue to be with them
and it shall be well with all of
them”.
Earlier, the Chairman of the
Organisation of African Instituted
Church, Senior Apostle Julius
Opasola, commended the Lagos
Chapter of the C&S Unification
Church of Nigeria for its efforts at
uniting the body of Christ while
commending the church for
extending a hand of fellowship to
CAN and the OAIC.
He described the event as
historic as it was the first time that
OAIC will be represented at a
programme organized by the
Cherubim and Seraphim.
Policing: AIG breaks
new grounds;
sets fresh frontiers
By Emma Nnadozie,
Crime Editor
ONE NOTICEABLE trait of
the
Inspector-
General of Police, Usman
Alkali Baba is his inclination
to put round pegs in round
holes. By this proclivity, he
has succeeded in shredding
the widely held impression
that he sticks, tenaciously to
establishment orders.
A cursory look at his
appointments since the
assumption of office will
reveal a studied and clever
assignment of credible officers
to where they will excel in the
deployment of diverse inner
competencies. From all
indications, those
appointments have ended up
bringing the best out of the
officers and men of the
Nigeria Police Force and it
has, directly or indirectly,
impacted their work attitude
and perfection index.
Critical area of
policing
In the past, very insignificant
attention was given to this
critical area of policing but
there was no belaboring the
fact that it nevertheless,
produced somewhat, men
and women of valor that
excelled creditably; leaving
their footsteps on the sands of
time and history.
This time around, the police
boss took a very gigantic step
by posting Assistant Inspector
General of Police, Fatai
Adeyinka Adeleke to head the
seemingly volatile Zone two
section of the force:
comprising Lagos and Ogun
states. Barely fourteen months
after taking this bold step,
manifest results are glaringly
showing with the quantum of
achievements Adeleke has
tallied; especially in the area
of infrastructure development.
Zone 2 as a
test case
Before now, Zone 2
command of the force at
Onikan, Lagos was noted for
housing decrepit
infrastructure with its
attendant overload of
abandoned structures and all
worth not. Officers and men
were forced to share airtight
narrow offices with passages
barely fit for two. Worse still,
vestiges of rotten and
abandoned materials were
littered spaces in and around
the buildings -a grave peril,
lurking under the ever busy
high rise bridge that links
Obalende, Ikoyi axis with
Victoria Island and environs.
Few hours' stay in any of the
offices leaves visitors with the
gaping impression that the sky
might come down soon as a
result of consistent earpiercing
noise emanating
from human and vehicular
traffic on the flyover bridge.
Arrival of Adeleke
However, the coming of
AIG Adeleke brought new
steam towards the effective
resolution of the challenges
therein. Now, first-time visitors
to the zonal headquarters
may innocently tag the area,
as a construction zone. This
obviously, is a result of the
construction works going on
sweepingly inside the
premises. Significantly, AIG
•AIG Fatai Adeleke
Adeleke embarked on the
reconstruction of the hall
dedicated to former Inspector
General of Police,
Muhammed Abubarkar
when he was holding forth as
AIG at the zone. He cleverly
created offices inside the
massive hall which can now
accommodate many officers
and men of the command
who, hitherto, were used to
milling around the premises
of the command due to the
paucity of office space.
Furthermore, he extended
offices meant for SPOs, and
renovated dilapidated
ramshackle enclosures
formerly used as offices -
some, built with corrugated
iron sheets. Resultantly, many
officers and men who had no
offices: including those who
were used to sharing spaces
are now comfortably
accommodated with
sufficient work chairs and
tables for performance
enhancement. Notably, the
ongoing reconstruction
works have created a
facilitative atmosphere for his
policemen to carry out their
duties.
People speak
Some of the visitors to the
command who spoke with
Vanguard over the
commendable development
showered praises on AIG
Adeleke not only for the
achievements he has recorded
in infrastructural
development in the command
but for the way he also carries
out his duties.
According to Chief Emeka
Chukwudum, an Estate
developer at Ago Palace Way,
Lagos, those of us that are
used to visiting the command
can attest to the structural
developments there. “That
man is so humble, dispenses
justice without minding
whose ox is gored and treats
everybody with unalloyed
respect and candor."
Engineer Tunde Oyediran
also bared his mind thus:" I
will say without fear of
contradiction that the
command has not had it so
good: not just in terms of
structural development but in
the way AIG Adeleke
dispenses justice. One of the
areas he must focus his
attention on urgently is in
weeding off some highly
corrupt officers and men of the
command that have been
soiling the image of the force
there. Most of them have spent
years there and the monstrous
manner and ways they treat
cases leave much to be
desired. Besides, with this
AIG's leadership style, the
force has broken new
grounds and set fresh
performance management
frontiers towards best policing
practices.
