This year’s edition, to mark the governor’s 6th anniversary, themed “Edo’s Transformation: Partnerships, Resilience, Impact,” is taking place between Friday, November 11 and Sunday, November 13, 2022. For the first time in six years, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR attended the summit. Oba Ewuare II who only superintended over the traditional breaking of kolanut during the opening session of the event did not make any speech at the event. Other dignitaries at the event include Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq.; Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Osaigbovo Iyoha; Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Olaitan Bamidele, and Chief Imam of Benin Kingdom, Alhaji Fatai Enabulele, among others. Meanwhile, experts at the event predicted a positive economic outlook in Edo on the back of the Benin Enterprise Park, the Cultural District, Modular Refinery, Ossiomo Power Company and other numerous transformative reforms and projects pursued by the state government. Obaseki, in his address, said the state’s growth will come from leveraging its comparative advantage and exploring opportunities in culture, forestry, manufacturing, agriculture and technology, among other sectors of the state’s economy, to drive development. The governor said, “We see growth ahead of us and this growth is going to come from certain endowments that we have which most people don’t have. Our culture – people must come and see us and admire what our forebears built. Our forestry assets – the world is talking about net zero carbon and we have something to contribute to the environment and environmental economy. “Manufacturing is the way to go. Edo has the largest onshore gas reserve in Nigeria with most of our other gas in the swamps and the offshore. With that energy source, there’s no reason we cannot continues on page 7

Nwankpa Chijioke 16-yr-old teenager rapes brother's wife, nine others in Ondo By Dayo Johnson, Akure The Ondo state security outfit , codenamed, Amotekun, has arrested a 16 year old teenager, identified as Precious, for allegedly raping his brother's wife and nine others in Ondo city, Ondo state. Parading the suspect alongside other criminals in Akure the state capital, the state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said that the suspect raped the wife of his brother when he traveled outside the town. The suspect, was equally accused of stealing 25 litres of palm oil. Precious, reportedly walked into the bedroom of his brother and noticing that the wife was naked and was sleeping, took advantage of her. He reportedly threatened to kill the woman if she raised any alarm. In an interview, the suspect who admitted committing the crime, confessed "raping nine other girls at Laosun, a farm settlement in Ondo West local government area. According to him, "In Laosun, I have raped nine girls. Some of them are 19 or 25 years, in the night, I will go into their rooms and start sleeping with them. I do not use gun or knives to threaten them. Sometimes I would be caught and they would beat me and leave me. I have been arrested before. I was arrested for stealing 25 litres of palm oil. I wanted to gather money to use it to buy phone. I came to the house and saw my brother's wife sleeping naked. I went into the room and slept with her." The Amotekun Commander, said the suspect would soon be charged to court. Adeleye stated that over 100 suspects were arrested in By Ikechukwu Nnochiri The People's Democratic Party, PDP, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, praying it to nullify the nomination of Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu of Lagos State as gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2023 elections. PDP, in its suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1972/22, equally applied for an order, invalidating the nomination of 40 Lagos State House of Assembly candidates over the the last one week after the launch of 'Operation Gba'le Gba'ko' The suspects, he added were arrested for crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, stealing and a syndicate specialised in vandalising power mast. SATURDAY Vanguard, NOVEMBER 12, 2022 — 7 Okotie faults presidential candidates’ campaign promises By Ishola Balogun The chief exponent of restructuring and interim government campaigner, Rev Chris Okotie has picked holes in the campaign promises of the major presidential candidates in the 2023 general election. His reaction coincided with the release of the manifestos of the two major political parties - the APC and the PDP. Speaking as a guest on Jordan FM radio programme, feedback in Lagos penultimate Sunday, the Reverend said the current constitution would not make it possible for any presidential candidate to fulfil his campaign promises because it contains several inherent contradictions. In apparent reference to the radio interview with host, Charles Ideho, Okotie wrote on his Facebook page: “All the major presidential flagbearers are talking about modality - how they would do what - none is addressing conditionality, that is, the constitution, true federalism, resource control, as the primary solution to the Nigerian quandary’. He explained the Nigerian conundrum: ‘Nigeria’s governmental incapacity is not modalities (about requisite knowledge and procedure), but conditionalities (inherent conditional obstructions). Okotie buttressed his argument with the metaphor of a pilot who wouldn’t fly his plane under inclement weather because it’s suicidal to do so; an apparent reference to modality. The Reverend then declared that to attempt to base any actualization of political promises on the present dysfunctional constitution is a journey in futility. He concluded that the only way out is to adopt his brand of restructuring based on Aboriginal Democracy, which would produce an acceptable constitution that would meet the yearnings of the people.
