President’s MessageTHANKFUL FOR SO MUCHBY MAYOR JENNIFER VIDRINE, CITY OF VILLE PLATTEAs the Thanksgiving holiday seasonapproaches, please join me in givingthanks for all the many blessings wehave received so far. After numeroussevere weather events our state experienced thesepast few years (with many areas still recovering), let usbe thankful for the mild hurricane season by lifting upthose Florida communities and families who sufferedsuch tremendous loss of life and property from HurricaneIan. As we all know, the months immediately followingthese unfortunate events can be the most difficult forlocal government leaders as they seek assistance fromevery possible avenue to help ease the unexpected andheavy loses.As you can see from the cover photo and accompanyingarticle on Grand Isle, my good friend Mayor DavidCamardelle and his residents continue to face greatchallenges resulting from last year’s Hurricane Ida. Whilebasic services of water, power, and the island’s general infrastructurehave been restored, the town is dealing withthe high cost of insuring their own facilities. I have calledon Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon to help findways to offset the overwhelming expense to the town’salready fragile state. I have great confidence in the mayor’sability to forge ahead and continue to provide hopeto his residents. David is one of the most resourceful andresilient local leaders in our state.This time of year allows me to reflect on things that Icherish deeply like family and my beloved residents ofVille Platte. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve thecommunity where I grew up, and I remain hopeful for themany wonderful things to come as we work together. Forexample, I watch the precious children at our Girls andBoys Place and marvel at their innocence, joy, and determination.Likewise, our senior residents who have livedsuch interesting and productive lives edify me each daywith their wise counsel. And while my immediate familyis relatively small, I feel blessed to be a part of so manyloving families in my city and throughout the state thanksin part to the LMA.We are reminded in scripture to, “give thanks for allthings” both large and small. Let us be mindful and attentivein the coming weeks to those less fortunate andlet us be the guiding light of UNITY in our communities.Remember, WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!Let us be thankful for the things we do have as I wastaught to do – let us count our blessings one by one byone.
