GEORGIA – 55
VANDERBILT - 0
BY: COBY SERINA
A look back at what decided the game
between Georgia and Vanderbilt.
The Georgia Bulldogs’ game against
Vanderbilt seemed as if it was just another
day in the office for Kirby Smart and his
team. Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild,
just another notch in the win column for
55-0
the Dawgs. Something to note was the
consistent and balanced offense. Stetson
Bennett went 24 for 30 for two touchdowns
and 289 yards only playing through three
quarters. When Carson Beck came in, there
was little dropoff. The second-string signal
caller also had two touchdowns going 8
of 11 for 98 yards. The quarterback play is
definitely a good sign for this team heading
to Jacksonville on Saturday,, especially
after it feels like something’s been missing
these past couple weeks. The defense also
did its job against a lackluster Vanderbilt
team. At Georgia, shutouts are almost taken
for granted, but it’s just the standard that
they’ve set for themselves. The Georgia
Bulldogs are rolling, and here are some
numbers that help explain how they’re
doing it.
ANOTHER TD
AGAINST VANDY!
versus Missouri, he caught three passes
for 64 yards marking a career performance
for the third-year tight end. Against Vandy,
Washington bested that outing catching
four balls for 78 yards.
1
Fourth-year wideout Dominick Blaylock
scored his one touchdown against
Vanderbilt, his first touchdown since his
freshman season in 2019. Blaylock’s play
speaks to his resiliency, a quality the team
uses to describe itself. After tearing his ACL
twice and missing significant playing time
dealing with injury, the former No. 5 receiver
128
in the class of 2019 is starting to show up
in this year’s offensive game plan. Georgia
offensive coordinator and quarterbacks
coach Todd Monken said that Blaylock has a
“knack” for making plays, and the 17.2 yards
Against Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs saw six per catch on 18 receptions for 310 yards is
different receivers make catches of 20 or definitely proving that to be true.
more yards. In the absence of key playmakers
AD Mitchell and Arian Smith, the
128
team is picking up right where they left off.
Since Mitchell went down with an injury, Before the Dawgs released the bench in the
the passing offense has felt a little different. latter part of the victory against Vanderbilt,
The Dawgs still have All-American tight its starting three running backs, Kenny
end Brock Bowers who can basically score McIntosh, Daijun Edwards and Branson
touchdowns on command, but one of the Robinson evenly split up a total of 128
crazy things is that Brock Bowers isn’t even rushing yards. When it comes to Georgia’s
on this list. Bowers saw four targets and ground game it really is a team effort.
did what he could, but only amounted to Although McIntosh is listed as the “starting”
15 yards. 6In the meanwhile, guys like the running back, last week against Auburn it
juggernaut that is Darnell Washington, was both Edwards and Robinson who led
freshman Dillon Bell and Ladd McConkey the team in rushes with 12 attempts, and
were making the most of the opportunity to against Vanderbilt it was Edwards taking
play against a respectfully inferior Vanderbilt charge with 10 attempts. McIntosh has
team. McConkey has been a name to watch clearly established his role as the all-purpose
since last year but those three specifically back, but he, Edwards, and Robinson really
have truly begun to come into their own this split up the rushing production pretty
season. Washington especially. In Columbia evenly amongst themselves.
