HABITS
HUMAN BEINGS:
CREATURES OF HABIT
In additional to being highly practical, habits and routines are also
truly necessary for human beings. If we had to consciously control all our actions
during the day, we would overtax our brains and consume
far too much energy. In other words, without habits we would not survive!
That being said, however, some habits can also have negative effects.
I’m not sure if you feel the same way,
but the last year seems to have
flown by faster than the one before.
Sounds familiar perhaps? I have been
told that this is actually a good sign
in that it speaks for a period of time
rich in activity and experiences.
That’s certainly an explanation I can
get behind as it’s the optimistic
approach that will allow us to direct
our attention to the here and now.
Just like you, we have so much going
on here with plenty of things in motion,
planning and preparation. In 2023,
we will celebrate three decades of the
Park Igls Medical Spa Resort. That’s
thirty great and successful years in
which we have welcomed around
40,000 guests! We are proud to report
that we have helped the vast majority
of these guests to live a healthier,
more fulfilled lifestyle to this day.
Rather than celebrating this milestone
with a grand celebration, however,
we’ve instead opted to invest in
expanded infrastructure for you. I
can already let you know: Our relaxing
namesake recreational park will
play a very central role in this. We are
confident you will love it!
Best regards & stay healthy,
Can’t do without your smartphone? Many
people use their smartphone more than three
hours a day. This is far too much. Getting
rid of such habits often requires outside help.
Throughout the day, we often repeat
many of the same patterns over and over again
without giving them much thought. Rather
than being innate, many of these habits are the
result of a learning process. In other words,
we must first consciously perform many
actions and processes so that later we can do
them in a more automated manner. Put simply,
the brain stores recurring sequences and
movements in what is referred to as action
memory, so that the next time we are in the
same situation, we can draw on this experience
and react in the same way. The more often we
perform actions, the better we become at
them, as is evident, for example, when learning
a musical instrument. Thus, processes that
are initially controlled by the conscious mind
migrate over time into our subconscious.
Once in our subconscious, such processes are
then quite hard to remove.
This explains why breaking bad habits can
be so difficult! This is not a problem if, for
example, we have gotten into the routine of
drinking water more regularly or learning to
play the piano, but it can become trickier when
it comes to poor diet or smoking – or if, for
example, we can no longer do without our
mobile phones. By the way, the technical term
for having become addicted to our mobiles
phones is "nomophobia" (a composite of the
phrase "no mobile" and the word phobia). If we
are not ourselves affected by this addiction, most
of us certainly know someone who is! In order
to break the vicious circle, when habits
become addictions, one usually needs outside
help as well as plenty of willpower. At Park Igls,
for example, such assistance is available in
the form of hypno-acupuncture, which is a
proven therapy for sleep disorders (that are the
result of a deeper underlying problem), but
also with for other problematic areas as well.
Five years ago, Head Physician Dr Peter
Gartner completed advanced training to help
patients with nomophobia. He has since been
treating an average of one guest a week with
the method, which is more strenuous for him
than for the patient.
Inside and out
Hypnosis is concerned with the psyche (and
also helps, for example, with excessive feelings
of stress and burnout). During treatment, the
patient is put into a trance in order to
subsequently penetrate the unconscious.
Meanwhile, acupuncture is concerned with
balancing the energy flows in the body, which
are stimulated from the outside with the
help of small needles. "Hypno-acupuncture
can help where many other therapeutic
options have failed," says Dr Gartner. It can be
used, for example, for quitting smoking, weight
loss, pain therapy and even to treat tinnitus or
asthma. "Medical hypnosis has nothing
whatsoever to do with the kind of hypnosis
performed on stage. It is instead used
whenever we need the power of the
unconscious to change habits sustainably and
in the long term," explains
Dr Gartner.
According to Dr Gartner, the most
common use is for quitting smoking. As part of
this process, acupuncture needles are placed
in the ear prior to hypnosis. These remain
there permanently for about two weeks. In
addition to the psychological withdrawal that
occurs during hypnosis, their purpose is to
support the physical withdrawal by alleviating
the desire for nicotine and withdrawal
symptoms. One patient in particular has
remained in Dr Gartner’s memory over the
years. This person was one of the very first
he treated for weight control. Her weight
fluctuated greatly, sometimes hovering around
115 kilogrammes, and she was also a smoker.
"It was a Herculean task to manage her body
weight and to help her quit smoking at the
same time," says Dr Gartner. After the first
session she relapsed after some time, and it
took a second and then finally a third session
before it was finally done. "These days, she
is now a successful non-smoker and can
consistently maintain a weight of 80 kilos."
Usually, a single session is sufficient to
solve the problem – provided, of course, that
the patient is ready for change and comes
voluntarily. "Being sent by concerned friends
or relatives" does not work. Occasionally,
people who have received treatment relapse.
In such cases, hypnosis usually works better
the second time, because the unconscious
is already prepared and knows that the step is
actually beneficial...
Every season has its charms. In particular, the
cooler month’s of the year are a great time to
do something worthwhile for your health.
Hypno-acupuncture is, as you may have
guessed, a combination of medical hypnosis
and acupuncture.
Fit programme teaches
women to be more
MENOPAUSE
ONE CHAPTER
IN A WOMAN’S
LIFE
A woman’s life, by its very nature, consists of many
chapters. Every end is the beginning of something new, and
even after menopause, it’s far from over.
In the course of her life, a woman changes
almost by nature – physically, but also
emotionally. Though there are many phases,
the one that supposedly marks the end of
womanhood is particularly important... A
woman’s life is tied to menstruation and over
the decades having a period has a significant
influence on life planning. Initially, the focus is
on contraception. Later, in many cases, the
desire to have children is a central issue as well.
Then, out of nowhere and without anyone
asking, a chapter ends. This time of change is a
great challenge for many women and includes
both physical and psychological aspects.
This time of change is a great challenge for
many women and includes both physical and
psychological aspects. During this phase, it is
necessary to learn to accept, and to position
oneself as a woman as a new phase of life
begins. Menopause is often quite similar. This
phase provides the opportunity to both
rediscover and resolidify one’s position in life.
Over the years, menopause has become such
a recurring topic at Park Igls that a separate
programme has now been developed.
"Menopause-Fit" helps to guide women
through this time of hormonal change, giving
them the tools to understand, accept and
deal with changing circumstances. Dr Irene
Brunhuber, a specialist in internal medicine
and F.X. Mayr physician, developed the
programme together with her colleagues,
Initiating Therapist Christine Canestrini,
Herbalist Alexandra Federa, Physiotherapist
Lisa French, Psychologist Dr Melanie
Robertson and Mayr Physician Dr Sonja
Schottkowsky. We asked Irene Brunhuber to
speak to us on behalf of the group.
Menopause is a major milestone in a
woman’s life. What goes on in a woman’s
body during this process?
Changes in the body begin several years
before the "actual" menopause starts, i.e. the
absence of the period. At around forty years of
age, the hormonal balance begins to shift
and the first subtle symptoms may appear,
including exhaustion, problems sleeping,
mood changes or even weight gain, as a the
metabolism also changes. This is referred to as
perimenopause. With ageing, hormone
production in the ovaries gradually reduces.
First, less progesterone, also called luteal
hormone, is produced. Later on during this
process, oestrogen levels also decrease,
resulting in the familiar hormonal fluctuations.
The start of menopause is retrospectively
defined as the final menstrual period. This can
take place anywhere from the ages of 45 to 55.
Menopause is often accompanied by
complex range of symptoms. How long
does it take for the body to actually
adjust?
Studies suggest that 70 to 80% of women in
Europe suffer from symptoms during
menopause. Not all of these ailments require
treatment, of course, but about one-third of
women actually need medical help. Typical
symptoms include hot flushes, sweating,
fatigue and a general drop in overall fitness in
addition to nervousness, irritability and sleep
loss. There is no general rule for how long
these symptoms last. There are women
who suffer from symptoms for up to ten years,
whilst others hardly notice the change.
When the first symptoms appear, do
women generally attribute them to
menopause?
No, not always. The question, of course, is
whether they are actually symptoms of
menopause at all! Mood swings or problems
sleeping are not necessarily attributable to
hormonal changes. Sometimes, such
symptoms can be triggered by stress. After all,
many women juggle work and family and this
can be very challenging indeed! Poor eating
habits can also be at fault that affect the
liver, leading to night sweats. In such cases, for
example, a regenerative time-out based on
Mayr-Prevent medicine helps to give the body
some relief and much-needed new energy.
For this reason, our menopause programme
at Park Igls also includes an extended
examination of the blood in addition to a
special menopause exam to clarify whether
a woman is experiencing menopause and, if
so, which stage.
How can menopausal symptoms be
treated?
At the turn of the millennium, it was common
practice to treat women with menopausal
symptoms by administering hormones,
regardless of their specific symptoms, medical
history or risk factors. It soon became
apparent that such hormonal replacement
therapies were not the best course of action
after all. On the contrary, they sometimes
increased the risk of breast cancer or strokes,
for example. Today, hormones are used very
selectively and only in consultation with a
gynaecologist to weigh the benefits and risks
very carefully. At Park Igls, we hope to raise
awareness for this topic and support women
with massages, physiotherapy, aroma and
herbal treatments as well as talking therapies.
Even today, the topic remains taboo. As a
result, it often helps if you can talk about the
experience in a safe environment free from
shame, and exchange ideas with like-minded
people. If a patient has very severe symptoms,
it is essential to seek the advice of a
gynaecologist.
So menopause means not only a physical
change, but also an emotional one?
Absolutely, I would even say that the emotional
aspect is often in the foreground. Statistically,
about 90 percent of women complain of
nervousness and irritability, followed by a drop
in overall fitness and an increase in exhaustion
A WEEK ALL TO
MYSELF
Menopause Fit is
bookable all year
round and at any
time. The programme
has a stress-reducing,
beneficial effect
on the body and
psyche and readies
participants to accept
the coming changes
and to take a more
relaxed approach to a
new stage of life.
→ Offer page 11
(80%), with hot flushes and sweating coming
in a close second (70%). In addition, 60 percent
struggle with depressive moods and every
second woman suffers from a sleep disorder.
Our society rewards performance. Women
have to be dynamic, nice and friendly, while
keeping their family and work lives under
control. They are expected to be energetic and
in a good mood, in addition to being wrinklefree,
slim and as beautiful as possible. There
is no space for a woman to age, but
menopause makes growing older abundantly
clear nevertheless. This may give a woman
the feeling that she is no longer a woman. Or
even worse: A sense of failure. Surprisingly,
in cultures where age is valued and mature
women are held in higher esteem, fewer
physical complaints are reported on average
during menopause. In addition, menopause
usually occurs at a time when women are
undergoing a state of upheaval anyway. The
children are out of the house, which often also
changes the relationship with one’s partner,
and perhaps it’s time for a professional change
as well? All this, of course, has an enormous
effect on women.
In today’s fast-moving world, 50 is
considered the new 30; and yet the
natural physical cycle remains the same.
What is it like for a woman when mind
and body no longer seem to be in sync?
Is there any way to prepare for such
changes?
Preparing can be difficult, especially since
there is no way of knowing at the time that
your last period was truly the last. As with
almost all aspects in life, however, a generally
healthy and mindful lifestyle with a balanced
diet and sufficient exercise is the best
preparation possible. The fitter and more
balanced you are, the better you will be able to
handle different phases of life and situations.
It is important to realise that menopause is not
a disease, but a natural part of life instead.
One has not done anything "wrong," and none
of us can actively delay the march of time. My
advice is not to put too much pressure on
yourself, but to face life in a relaxed and serene
manner. That is why it is so important for us
to provide really good information on the
subject as part of our week-long programme
and teach, among other things, relaxation
techniques and herbal therapies that you can
continue yourself at home.
How much does lifestyle influence
menopause?
It is a major factor. With the onset of
menopause, many women develop high
blood pressure. This is often regarded
rather dismissively, but it can in fact lead to
dangerous secondary diseases such as
vascular calcification, heart attacks, strokes,
cardiac insufficiency or kidney disease. A
healthy lifestyle has positive effects on blood
pressure, among other things, and exercise
helps prevent osteoporosis, which studies
show increases significantly around
Dr Irene Brunhuber
menopause. Lots of sport also lifts your spirits
as well! In addition, women should also pay
close attention to their diets: While feeling
full after eating lessens with age, you also burn
fewer calories, which in combination leads
to weight gain. This is another reason why
exercise is so important! During this phase,
women should pay close attention to a lowcarbohydrate
diet and consume more protein
instead. This also helps the muscles, which
deteriorate with age.
When it comes to menopause, all women
are in the same boat.
I personally think so. In any case, it helps to
deal with the subject openly... talking helps.
And you can also see menopause as
something positive: You no longer need to
worry about menstrual cramps or
contraception. And, because the children are
out of the house, you’ll have time for yourself
or as a couple again. That will allow you to
really focus on your own personal needs
and do what makes you happy. Age can bring
a certain calm and firmness to life. There is
peace of mind in knowing a little bit more
about what life is really about.
BETTER GOLFING
WHEN A NEW EXPERIENCE
BECOMES A VALUABLE
RECOMMENDATION
From the car to the plane to the office: As
a golf journalist, I move around a lot.
Like many other professions, I spend a lot of
time in front of a screen and (for my taste)
far too little on the golf course. This makes
it all the more important for me to have an
overarching health plan in mind.
Martin Angerer
A healthy time-out as part of a press trip to the
Park Igls Medical Spa Resort was just the
thing I needed. Receiving an invitation to a
golf health trip was something completely
new for me and really piqued my curiosity. So I
decided to take advantage of a few quieter
days to get rehabilitated and revitalised from
the inside out. The programme started
out with an extensive medical check-up and
introductory lectures on Modern Mayr
Medicine and its specific nutritional and
therapeutic approaches. But what was soon
revealed were my personal physical limits.
Why? Because it soon became clear that going
out for a round of golf on a semi-regular
basis was in itself insufficient to counteract the
deficiencies resulting from my daily work
routine.
The good news, however, is that at Park Igls,
you don’t have to give up your favourite hobby
in spite of the health-focussed nature of your
stay. Instead, doctors and therapists somehow
manage to weave together a comprehensive
programme while never losing sight of the
overarching goal of improved general wellbeing.
During my stay, I was able to start my day
off feeling unusually light and free from the
ballast that social and traditional media
3 TOP EXERCISES FOR STRENGTH AND MOBILITY
Healthier golfing: "Those who make
use of the winter months for
regular training will benefit
throughout the entire golf season.
It’s as simple as that," says Hanni
Gartner, therapist at Park Igls.
She speaks from experience: In
her spare time, the passionate
golfer coaches the Austrian Ladies
Senior Golf Team. During your
stay with us, you can select various
units from our golf-specific health
programme, including: A functional
swing analysis, strength training,
or the pre-shot and warm-up
routine. You can also practice to
your heart’s content on our pitch &
putting green. Here are three of
Hanni’s favourite exercises, which
are easy to perform and particularly
efficient. Enjoy!
BACKSWING
STRENGTHENING
Starting position: Stand on top of
the theraband using a parallel stance
as if addressing the ball with a golf
swing. Grasp the golf club along
with the theraband. Perform a
backswing slowly and briefly hold
your "swing" at the highest point.
Then slowly rotate the hips back and
swing down to the starting position.
Do 10 repetitions, 3 times.
typically impose on me in everyday life. First
things first: A bit of morning exercise.Hanni
Gartner, an experienced therapist at Park Igls
and coach of the Austrian Ladies Senior
Golf Team, invited me to undergo a functional
analysis of my golf swing. She quickly
recognised my shortcomings: If you sit a lot,
don’t be surprised if the muscles on the back
side of your legs become weaker and shorter
over time. This leads to instability in the pelvic
floor as well. At least there was some good
news: My spine still turns well. After the initial
analysis, we moved on to an introduction
session on golf-specific strength and mobility
training, customised to my needs. From now
on, this is something I will do two to three
days a week. After giving my thanks, I warmly
say thank you and head in the direction of
one of the nearby golf courses. Having played
a round the day before yesterday at the
picturesque course on Achensee Lake, nine
concentrated holes are enough for me today. I
decide against using the driver today and
opt for the Olympia Golf Course Igls featuring
short, narrow holes that remind me of the
sporty, fun par-3 pitch & putt courses in Spain.
“Health is not a
destination, but a
path to follow.”
In the afternoon, my elbows and lumbar
vertebrae ache. Luckily for me, a full-body
massage is on the schedule today. Therapist
Markus examines my lanky body, which he
nevertheless considers to be muscular. I don’t
BALANCE & STABILITY
Starting position: Stand with one
leg on the theraband and hold it with
your arms extended as if you were
holding a golf club. Raise your
other leg knee to knee at right angle.
Then, with arms extended, pull
the band up above your ears and
then lower the arms again. Do
10 repetitions, 3 times.
know if I should be flattered, but there is little
time to consider the matter further. Lying
down, Markus works my body from head to toe
and front to back, so intensely that tears come
to my eyes. And for me, that’s exactly how it
should be. Markus agrees: "Every patient needs
a different form of treatment. It is my job to
recognise this and to take it into account
during the treatment," says Markus Stroj, who
has been working here since the founding days
of the hotel. His experienced hands are tasked
with getting many tired bodies back into shape.
But it’s not until the following day that I am
truly impressed by his healing touch. Markus
assured me that I would indeed be quite tired
following the treatment (the body’s selfhealing
powers need energy!) and a deliciously
light evening meal of Modern Mayr Cuisine.
But the next morning I was feeling wonderfully
light as I started off my day with a Kneipp
therapy session. Day two featured further
therapy sessions, golf training with Hanni
Gartner on the in-house putting green
and some generally contemplative hours in the
wellness area. During my time, one thing
became abundantly clear to me: Health is not
a destination, but a path to follow. It is not
about getting from here to there, but
continuing the journey. As an ideal starting
point, but also as a worthwhile stopover on this
journey, I whole-heartedly recommend Park
Igls in beautiful Tyrol, Austria.
Martin Angerer is a (golf) journalist (writing
for Perfect Eagle Golf, amongst others)
and a travel-loving representative of an openminded,
younger generation of golfers.
HIP ROTATION
Starting position: Start your stance at
the width of your hips as if you were
hitting a 7 iron. Grasp the theraband,
arms up and stretch the band on
both sides. Important: The wrists
must also be fully extended. Then
perform a hip rotation slowly to the
left (for right-handed golfers).
Do 10 repetitions, 3 times.
STRESS
THE
COURAGE TO
JUST RELAX
We live in a society and culture that associates
doing nothing with laziness. We define
ourselves by what we do, not by what we don’t
do. And yet we should all learn to celebrate
the fine art of idleness.
We constantly have too little of it in addition
to the uneasy feeling that we are always one step
behind.I am talking about time of course, which is cruel
considering all the modern amenities and technological
aids designed to have the opposite effect. And yet we
still have so much stress. For many people, work takes
precedence over everything else in life and has become
the (sole) purpose of life for many people. Having too
many appointments makes us feel needed, important.
Somehow being permanently busy is an indicator of
success, overwork is a matter of prestige, and burnout
has become socially acceptable. Sounds familiar?
Small wonder that life dominated by work alone is
particularly one-sided. But burnout doesn’t come from
too much work, it comes from too little life.
Objectively speaking, we human beings have never
been as well off as we are today. Life expectancy is
increasing, as is the standard of living, yet mental illness
is on the rise. The Covid-19 pandemic has only further
exacerbated this trend, as many find it difficult to cope
with the many associated setbacks. In addition, the
breaking-point threshold has dropped over the past few
months, and the feeling of powerlessness in the face of
external circumstances has thrown many people off
track. Have we forgotten how be satisfied with ourselves?
The answer is 'yes,' according to Dr Peter Gartner, Head
Physician at Park Igls: "During a therapy cure, I often
have to explicitly prescribe doing nothing to my guests."
A bit of boredom can actually be a good thing for both
body and mind. So too is laughter, by the way.
WE BECOME SEDUCED TO OVERWORK
OURSELVES.
Small wonder: We live in a performance-driven society.
Already during childhood we are readied for performance.
By the time we reach adulthood, our true inner goals
are often replaced by extrinsic status goals. Every day, we
have countless decisions to make, even if it’s just
choosing the "right" yogurt from the supermarket shelf.
Whilst we will happily visit a doctor as a matter of course
with a broken arm, we try to restore our mental balance
all on our own. However, this only works to a certain
extent. With the advent of the term "burnout," things have
changed: Those who burn out must have previously
burned for something. In other words, they must have
worked overly diligently, productively and devotedly
on something. Burnout is still not chic, but awareness
has made it much easier to address and talk about
mental health issues. Regardless of this, the pressure
from suffering is typically already very high by the time
many finally decide to accept professional help.
Fortunately, inhibitions are often more easily overcome
during a therapy cure. "While you’re already at it," you
can, in addition to working on the body, also work on the
mind as well. In many cases, this happens almost
automatically, because the body usually starts giving us
signs long before the psyche does. Early warnings
include sleep and digestive problems, for example, or
circulation problems or shortness of breath. Stress leads,
among other things, to an increased release of the
signal substance interleukin 6, which can lead to
inflammation or an increase in blood sugar levels or
even diabetes over a longer period of time. This in turn
can lead to obesity through the increased release of the
stress hormone cortisol. Increased adrenaline
production also puts the body on constant alert. This
manifests itself, for example, in an increased heart
rate, dilated airways, increased blood pressure and poor
digestion. For those dealing with dangerous situations,
such reactions make sense in the short term, but in
the long run they certainly do more harm than good. The
psyche is often the root cause of many physical ailments.
Allowing yourself to take regular time-outs,
consciously taking time out of everyday life, reflecting on
eating habits, exercising – preferably in the fresh air –
and, above all, getting enough sleep, is not only good for
the body, but also for the mind. And because one is
generally a bit more open and reflective during a therapy
cure (as you have probably experienced yourself), it is
often easier to look inward in this environment than
elsewhere.
MUSIC
ON A
WAVELENGTH
There are many memories in our lives
that we associate with certain tastes or smells.
Still others are defined by music.
PLEASURE
In addition to medicine, diagnostics and therapy, Park Igls also offers
an extremely extensive activity programme. We firmly believe that
consistent exercise in the right doses leads to physical and mental balance
(not only during your stay and treatment, by the way, but quite generally).
Just 20 minutes of daily exercise strengthen physical and mental resources
in the long term. "In total, we offer our guests up to 40 hours per week of
varied programmes to support the therapy programme. This gives guests
the opportunity to have new experiences and develop healthy habits from
them," explains Lisa French, the new team leader for exercise at Park Igls.
Not every part of the programme is exclusively focussed on exercise.
For some time now, we have also offered special music therapy. This is
due in no small part to the personal affinity of Andrea Gnägi, an enthusiastic
cellist, and Dr Peter Gartner: If the person playing the saxophone looks
familiar to you as you enjoy the evening background music, you aren’t
seeing things: That is indeed Park Igls’ Head Physician!
IN TIME WITH THE BEATING OF THE HEART
Music does something to us. It has an influence on numerous physical
processes in our body and triggers the same feelings in us as food, sport,
sex or drugs; and this doesn’t just occur when you play music yourself,
but also when you listen to it! Music helps us (also when enjoyed passively)
to actively regenerate and switch off. It even put us into a kind of trance.
Making and listening to music releases endorphins, the body’s own opiates
that give us a sense of euphoria, and a simultaneous reduction in the
stress hormone cortisol. Music inspires, energises, relaxes and makes you
happy; music even helps connect our nerve cells.
At Park Igls, music is used for deep musical relaxation. While lying
comfortably on a mat on the floor, listen to the harmonic sounds of a harp,
whose vibrations resonate. Music helps us to come to rest and find a way
to ourselves.
The most pleasant forms of music for humans are pieces with a rhythm
of 120 beats per minute, because these correspond with our average
heartbeat of 60 beats per minute. Hypno-acupuncture is also
accompanied by relaxation music, often backed by 'alpha waves,' which
are barely audible undertones that provide an increased ability to
remember and concentrate. Ultimately, it is the triumvirate of rhythm,
harmony and melody that appeals to us. All our physical and mental
processes are subject to certain rhythms and we need harmony to feel
good. "A sequence of familiar harmonies make us suddenly feel at home
in an unbelievable way," says Dr Peter Gartner. At the end of the day,
music is the soundtrack of our lives.
Think things through or go with your gut?
I am definitely someone who thinks things through.
Coffee with or without milk?
For many years I have taken my coffee without milk
or sugar.
Bicycle or motorcycle?
Motorcycle – this is one of my main passions in
addition to cooking.
Meat or fish?
Fish, preferably locally sourced.
Morning person or night owl?
I don’t know if "night owl" describes me accurately
but I am definitely not a morning person.
Classical or rock?
There is room for both in my life.
Markus, you have been successfully developing
Modern Mayr Cuisine for fifteen years. Are
you proud of what you have accomplished?
It’s a journey that I am still completing. Cuisine,
technology and style are always evolving – so it’s
never boring. Over the years, we have managed
to attract guests both with our medical competence
and with our fine dining!
How trendy is Modern Mayr Cuisine?
Trends come and go and come again, especially in
the fashion industry. Our goal is to guide people
to a healthier lifestyle while concentrating on what
really matters in addition to highest competence
in all areas. This is the DNA of what we do. For many
people, eating healthily has been in vogue for
THE MASTER BUILDER
OF MODERN MAYR CUISINE
For fifteen years, chef Markus Sorg and his team have been ensuring that guests at Park Igls can enjoy cuisine at the very
highest level. We invited the "master builder of Modern Mayr Cuisine" to participate in a flash interview.
many years. The topic has become more broadly
accepted, which is amazing. In addition, more
and more young people are also getting involved with
healthy eating. As far as our Modern Mayr Cuisine is
concerned, however, we do not follow trends or
things that are hip at the moment. For us, knowledge,
experience, know-how and current nutritional
findings are our main areas of focus. We are at the
forefront of this topic and the use of different
preparation methods – if this makes us trendy then
our Modern Mayr Cuisine is very trendy indeed!
These days, anyone who has worked in the hotel
industry for over fifteen years is looked at a bit
sceptically...
(laughs) Well, you can also see it from the point
of view that the employer does a lot so that the
employees like coming to work here.
Thanks for the interview!
INTRODUCING
ELECTRO
THERAPY
Electrotherapy is a fascinating,
highly effective therapeutic
treatment, which is offered
in addition to more wellknown
medical massages such
as connective-tissue, footreflexology,
or deep massages
at Park Igls. Markus Stroj,
Head of the Medical Massages
Department, explains why.
How does electrotherapy work in
simplified terms?
Low, medium or high-frequency
galvanic current is used to treat
different parts of the body. This is, of
course, in no way painful.
When do you use electrotherapy?
We only use such therapy in
consultation with a doctor and as a
complement to other therapies for our
guests. The scope of application is
diverse: To stimulate blood circulation
and muscle activity, relieve pain and
muscle tension, but also supportively
to stimulate metabolic processes.
How long do such therapy
sessions last? How often is
recommended?
How often over a longer period of
time really depends on each individual
person. We always decide in
consultation with our physicians; there
is no rule of thumb. If electrotherapy
is the right course of treatment,
we use at least three units here at
Park Igls.
