Brereton CE Primary School
A Message from Our Headteacher
Here at Brereton CE Primary School, we are proud to provide excellent
education for children from four to eleven years old in our unique Christian
setting. Our Christian Values are at the heart of all we do and we serve to
provide all who come here with the opportunity to celebrate their abilities and
achievements, whilst tackling new challenges and experiences together.
We hope that this prospectus provides you
with all of the information you need.
"Through special themed days and the
topic-based curriculum, pupils learn
about different ways of life and
historical events which have shaped our
culture. As a result, they are able to
identify and challenge stereotypical
views confidently and maturely."
Our Curriculum
Reflective • Aspirational • Relevant
We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that
gives children opportunities to develop lively, enquiring minds
in order to explore, understand and explain the world.
Importance is placed on children’s happiness and positive
relationships as this contributes to mutual respect, trust and
consideration.
Children learn in a variety of ways depending upon their age
and stage of development. At Brereton, they experience being
taught as members of a whole class, a small group and
individually. Purposeful activities are planned to match their
learning needs, abilities, interests and experience in order to
develop knowledge, skills and understanding of new concepts.
The curriculum includes every aspect of school life, from the
taught subjects to the everyday opportunities and experiences
given to children. Our curriculum is specifically designed for our
pupils.
Religious Education
The Christian values of tolerance, forgiveness and service are central
to the purpose, ethos and atmosphere of the school. We seek to
support, extend and clarify children’s faith by sharing the Gospel
teachings of Christ and bringing children to a deeper understanding
of the love of God.
Our close links with St Oswald’s Parish Church enable us to
participate in church festivals and the main celebrations of the
Christian calendar.
Worship
We come together to worship everyday. We reflect
on stories and messages from the Bible and consider how
these can help us to live our lives. Reverend Sandi leads
worship in school once a week and classes also attend
services at St Oswald’s church.
PSHE and Mental Health
We place great importance on developing children’s personal
and social skills and ensuring that we support them in
developing their emotional intelligence. We want children to feel
secure in themselves and have the confidence and resilience to
deal with any challenges that they face. We deliver PSHE lessons
weekly and we promote positive mental health at all times.
"Provision for pupils' spiritual development
and emotional well-being is extremely
well-considered. RE and collective worship
make very substantial contributions to
pupil's spiritual growth."
Parental Engagement
Parents are their child’s first and most enduring educators. We are committed to working in partnership
with parents and building on the foundations laid at home. Our aim is to develop a mutually supportive
relationship between home and school that enables children to grow intellectually, socially and
emotionally within the security and stability of our environment. We therefore ensure that parents are as
fully involved and informed as possible about their children’s progress through the following means:
• Parent consultation evenings
• “Starting School” meeting and booklet
• Meet the Teacher meetings
• Reading diaries
• Homework tasks
• Assemblies
• Weekly newsletter
• School website
• Class Dojo
• Learning exhibitions each half term
• Stay and Makes
• Social Media
• Reports
• Church services
Open Door Policy
Your child’s well-being is our primary concern.
Should you ever have any worries or concerns we
would want parents to speak to us as soon as
possible.
Trips
Educational visits are arranged to enhance our
Curriculum and make learning memorable.
A few of our favourite venues are:
• Reaseheath Zoo
• Ford Green Hall
• Blists Hill
• Chester Cathedral
• Peak Wildlife Park
• Trentham Gardens
• Delamere Forest
• Slavery museum, Liverpool
• Nantwich museum
Residentials
In Year 2, the children spend one night at
Tattenhall Residential Centre, where they
build dens, toast marshmallows and
complete a range of outdoor games and
activities.
In Year 4, we travel to York to learn all about
the Vikings. We visit the Yorvik Centre, the
Museum of Farming and York Minster.
Finally, in Year 6, we visit Pensarn Harbour.
Here, the children push themselves to try
new activities and experiences, such as
abseiling, gorge walking and kayaking.
We believe our children gain a great deal
from these experiences.
7

Pastoral Care
We share responsibility with parents for the children in our care and, as such, expect children to behave with
courtesy, respect and consideration towards others and the environment. We believe that children learn to
manage their own behaviour through praise, encouragement, reward and good role models. Our aim is for all
children to ‘love one another’.
"Leaders have thought carefully about the curriculum.
It is ambitious for all pupils, including those with
special educational needs and/or disabilities"
8

Inclusion
Here at Brereton we want all children to ‘love learning’ and for their efforts and achievements to be
celebrated. We encourage children to see themselves as confident and capable. Accordingly, we
recognise and provide for a range of Special Educational Needs by identifying and addressing them
at the earliest opportunity. We actively involve parents and any external support agencies necessary
in order to meet children’s needs. Parents who have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us.
""Parents and carers are incredibly positive about the work of school leaders."
"Many parents praised the high levels of care that their children receive from staff."
"Pupils are very clear about leaders' high expectations. Pupils work hard in class."
Homework
Safeguarding
Homework from school is seen as a means of
promoting a positive attitude to learning and involving
parents more closely in the learning process.
Teachers plan and set weekly homework tasks that
support what your child has learnt in class. We
encourage parents to work with their children on
homework tasks to promote discussion, deepen
understanding and consolidate learning.
Quality family time is essential and beneficial. The
completion of homework should not be a source of
stress and parents are encouraged to contact the school
if this becomes the case.
Schools are particularly well
placed to observe outward signs
of abuse, changes in behaviour or
failure to develop due to the
day-to-day contact with children.
Our Child Protection procedures
require that any concerns of child
abuse be reported to the child’s
parents and Social Services. The
child-friendly Safeguarding Policy
is available via our school website:
www.breretonprimary.org.uk.
The full Safeguarding policy is
available from school upon
request. You can also find links to
external sources on our website.
England’s drive to ’Value all
Starting School
Starting school is a big step and an exciting challenge. We work in close liaison with parents and the on
site pre-school playgroup, and operate a programme of pre-school visits and meetings to make this a
happy, successful and rewarding experience. We also conduct home visits so we can see your child in
their familiar environment and speak to parents/carers in private. A ‘Starting School’ meeting is held
for new parents in May and we host a new starters picnic for pupils and their families in the summer
term.
"Expectations are high. Pupils are eager to rise to the challenge, reflecting their extremely positive attitudes to life
and learning. Parents confirm that their children are extremely happy, excited by their learning and joyful in their
relationships. They are confident that this is because every child is valued as unique, loved and supported."
Holmes Chapel
Cluster
The Holmes Chapel and District Community
Partner-ship work together to raise horizons and
enrich experiences by promoting lifelong
learning opportunities for members of our
learning community. We feel very lucky to be
able to work with other local schools to provide
the best education possible.
Secondary
Transition
As a feeder school for Holmes Chapel
Comprehensive School, the majority of our
pupils go on to HCCS and succeed socially and
academically. Pupils also move to Sandbach
School and Sandbach High School, as well as
Congleton High School and Alsager. Staff work
hard to ensure pupils are ready for the next
phase of their education and we support
successful transition for all.
Uniform
We believe that children should take a pride in both themselves and their school. A smart school
uniform gives children self-confidence, self-discipline and a sense of belonging to something
special as well as helping to develop high standards in other aspects of school life. The uniform
consists of:
• Grey trousers/skirts/tunics
• White shirts (long or short sleeved)
• School tie
• Navy blue jumper/cardigan with school logo
• Sensible school shoes (no trainers)
• PE uniform – navy shorts, navy tee-shirt with school logo, black pumps
• Grey or white socks or tights
"Pupils speak fondly about Brereton Primary School.
They said that teachers help make learning interesting.
Pupils enjoy the large school grounds and the range of
equipment that they can use at break and lunchtimes."
Global Curriculum
We are proud to promote a global curriculum. Every year group focus on one of the sustainable
development goals each term.
We also have links with St Lwanga Catholic School in Njoro and children regularly study national
and international news and events.
