MAXIMUM LENGTH FOR CABLE RUNS The system may be "star wired" from a central point or "loop wired" however the number of stations on a loop wired run governs the overall length of the run. The table below shows the relationship between the length of a cable run and the number of stations permitted on the run. A cable run is considered to begin at the station to which the power supply is connected. Number of stations for a given cable run length Cable run length No. of stations permitted 51 to100 metres 1 station 34 to 50 metres 2 stations 26 to 33 metres 3 stations 1 to 25 metres 4 stations These maximum distances can be doubled where required by running a “figure 8” cable (14 x 0.2 mm) in parallel with the POS & NEG wires. It is vitally important that the POS and NEG wires are balanced in terms of the type of wire and the number of wires used - i.e. if a Fig 8 wire and a Valet wire are used for POS, a Fig 8 wire and a Valet wire should also be used for NEG. 7

(The master is not used in the calculation because it is the station to which the power supply is connected) A Load Resistor is not required for systems using a Master unless older version VR101 Room Stations or VF101 Door Stations are being used. If these are being used, a 220K Load Resistor must be fitted to the LOAD RES terminals and the indicated track below the LOAD RES terminals on the termination PCB must be cut. Lock 8
