Construction Magazine GineersNow - Civil Engineers vs Architects - The Battle of the Builders
There is a common misconception that civil engineers and architects are one and the same. However, these two professions are quite different, as evidenced by the different education requirements and job duties. Civil engineers are responsible for the design and construction of infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, and dams. They must have a strong understanding of math and science in order to complete their designs. In contrast, architects are responsible for the design of buildings and other structures. They must have a strong understanding of aesthetics and engineering in order to create functional and beautiful buildings. Both civil engineers and architects play vital roles in the construction industry. Without either profession, our built environment would be very different.

E D I T O R ‘ S N O T E
There are two types of
builders in the world of
construction: those who
design the buildings,
and those who construct them.
The former are called architects,
the latter civil engineers. Both
groups are essential to the
building process, but there is a
big difference between the two.
Differences
The Battle of the Builders:
Architects vs Civil Engineers
Architecture is primarily
concerned with the aesthetics
of a structure, while civil
engineering focuses on the
function and stability of a
structure. Architects must
have a creative eye and an
understanding of how to design
a space that is both functional
and aesthetically pleasing. Civil
engineers, on the other hand,
must have strong technical skills
and be able to calculate things
like load-bearing capacity and
stress points.
While both architects and
civil engineers are essential
to the building process, their
different skill sets make them
complementary rather than
interchangeable.
Education requirements
There are many different types
of engineers, but the two main
groups are architects and civil
engineers. Architects typically
have a five-year degree in
architecture, while civil engineers
usually have a five-year degree
in engineering. Both require
a licensure examination to
become professional architects
and civil engineers.
Day-to-day
responsibilities
The day-to-day responsibilities
of an architect vs a civil
engineer can vary greatly. An
architect may be responsible
for the design of a building,
while a civil engineer may
be responsible for the
construction of that same
building. An architect may also
be responsible for ensuring
that a building meets all
safety and code requirements,
while a civil engineer may be
responsible for ensuring that
the building is structurally
sound.
Skills required
When it comes to the skills
required for each profession,
there are some key differences
between architects and
civil engineers. For starters,
architects need to be
creative and have a strong
understanding of aesthetics.
They also need to be good
at problem-solving and
have strong communication
skills. On the other hand,
civil engineers need to have
a strong understanding of
math and science. They also
need to be good at project
management and have strong
analytical skills.
Job outlook
When it comes to the job
outlook for each profession,
there is a clear winner:
architecture. The Bureau of
Labor Statistics projects that
employment of architects
will grow by 3% from 2018 to
2028, while employment of
civil engineers is projected
to grow by 7% over the same
period.
Salary
When it comes to the salaries
of architecture and civil
engineering, there is a clear
difference. Civil engineers’
salaries are typically much
higher than architects’ salaries.
According to Bureau of Labor
and Employment, the 2021
median pay of a civil engineer
is $88,050 per year, and the
hourly rate is $42.33 per hour.
While the 2021 median pay
of an architect is $80,180 per
year, and the hourly rate is
$38.55 per hour.

has a regular client network of more than 1,500 industrial organizations, 1,600 traditional

Chinatown, as a pioneer enterprise started by the family’s patriarch, Mr. Cobankiat, in 1920.
Despite the ruins of World War II, the business got back to its feet in 1948, rebuilding a storefront
from the very same spot where it was known for three decades.

There is a battle brewing between two of the world’s most popular
professions of architecture vs civil engineering. Both fields are
essential to the built environment, but which one is more important?
That is the question that has been debated for years, with no clear
winner in sight.
32
33
C O V E R
S T O R Y
The debate between architects and
engineers is not new, but it has been
intensified in recent years as the two
professions have become more specialized.
The Battle of the Builders is a battle between
two groups of people who both claim to be
the best builders. The architects say that they
are the better builders because they design
the buildings and make sure that they are
structurally sound. The civil engineers say
that they are the better builders because
they build the actual foundation and make
sure that everything is up to code.
In the modern world, the terms “architect”
and “civil engineer” are often used
interchangeably. However, these two
professions are quite different, both in
terms of their training and the work they do.
Architects are primarily concerned with the
design of buildings, while civil engineers
are responsible for the construction and
maintenance of infrastructure such as roads,
bridges, and water systems.
These Fields are Structured Differently: Get to
Know the Differences Between Architecture
and Civil Engineering
The Pros and Cons of Each:
Architecture vs Civil Engineering
When it comes to the world of builders, there
is a continuous debate between those in
architecture and those in civil engineering.
There are pros and cons to each profession,
making it difficult to determine which one
is the best option. When trying to make a
decision, it is important to consider all
aspects of each job before making a final
decision.
For starters, let’s look at the education
required for both professions. An architect
typically needs a five-year Bachelor of
Architecture degree, whereas a civil
engineer needs a four-year Bachelor of
Science in Civil Engineering. However, this
does not mean that an architect is more
qualified than a civil engineer. In fact, many
argue that the extra year of schooling for an
architect is unnecessary and that they learn
more on-the-job than in school.
The next thing to consider is the job outlook
and salary.
The Salary of Architects vs Civil
Engineers
There’s no denying that both architects
and civil engineers are essential to the
construction industry. But when it comes to
earnings, these two professions are worlds
apart. According to the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics, the median salary for civil
engineers is much higher compared to
architects.
PUT HERE THE CHART STATISTICS
So what explains this discrepancy? A big
part of it has to do with experience, a safe
environment, and hazard pay. While both
professions require passing a licensure
exam, civil engineers must complete a much
longer and more intensive construction site
process, safety, and hazard training.
But even with all these factors considered,
civil engineers still earn significantly more
than architects. One reason for this may be
that architects are often seen as the creative
behind a project, while civil engineers are
viewed as more of a mental and physical
intensive job in both offices and on
construction project sites.
The Job Outlook: Architects vs Civil
Engineering
There is a lot of debate between which
profession is better, architects or civil
engineers. There are many similarities
between the two, as they both deal with

designing and constructing buildings.
However, there are also some key differences
that set them apart.
When it comes to job outlook, both professions
are expected to grow in the coming years.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that
employment of architects will grow by 3%
from 2018 to 2028, while employment of civil
engineers is projected to grow by 7% over the
same time period. So, while both professions
offer good job prospects, civil engineering
appears to be a more promising field in terms
of growth potential.
What the debate is about: Architecture
vs Civil Engineering
When it comes to the world of construction,
there are two main camps: those who study
architecture and those who study civil
engineering. The debate between these two
groups is one that has been around for years,
with no clear winner in sight.
So, what exactly is the difference between
these two disciplines? Architecture is more
concerned with the aesthetics of a construction
project, while civil engineering focuses on the
functionality and practicality. This means that
architects are often responsible for designing
buildings that are both beautiful and
structurally sound, while civil engineers must
ensure that all the systems within a building
work properly and can support the weight of
the structure.
There are arguments to be made for both
sides. Some people believe that architecture
is more important than civil engineering, as
buildings would be worthless if they collapsed
or were not easy to use.
The advantages of architecture vs
civil engineering
There are many advantages that architecture
has over civil engineering. For one, architecture
is a much more creative field. Architects are
able to design unique buildings that are
both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
They also have a better understanding of
how people use buildings and can therefore
design spaces that are more user-friendly.
Another advantage of architecture is that it is a
more sustainable field. Architects are always
looking for ways to incorporate green design
principles into their projects. This means that
buildings designed by architects are typically
more energy-efficient and have a smaller
environmental impact than those designed by
civil engineers.
Finally, architecture is a field that is constantly
evolving. New technologies and materials are
being developed all the time, and architects
need to be at the forefront of these changes
in order to create the best possible designs.
Arguably, civil engineering, on the other hand,
is a much more static field.
The advantages of civil engineering
over architecture
There are many advantages that civil
engineering has over architecture. One is
that civil engineers are more involved in
the construction process. They work with
contractors and other engineers to make
sure that the project is built according to
specifications. Another advantage is that
civil engineers have a better understanding
of how infrastructure works. This includes
things like water systems, sewer systems,
and roads. They also understand the impact
of construction on the environment and how
to minimize it.
Civil engineers must consider factors such as
safety, cost, and utility when designing these
projects. Architects typically design buildings
or residential homes. While they must also
consider factors such as safety and cost, their
designs are not required to be as functional
as those of civil engineers.
49
C O V E R
S T O R Y
Another advantage that civil engineering has
over architecture is that civil engineers often
have more job stability than architects. This is
because there is always a need for infrastructure
projects, even during economic downturns.
Architects may find themselves out of work
during these times if the construction industry
slows down.
Overall, civil engineering offers many advantages
over architecture.
The case for architecture: creativity,
artistry, etc.
When it comes to the design and construction of
our built environment, there is a battle brewing
between two very different camps: those who see
architecture as an art form, and those who view
it as a science. On one side are the architects,
with their focus on creativity, aesthetics, and
self-expression. On the other side are the
civil engineers, whose priority is functionality,
efficiency, and safety.
So, which side is right? Is architecture an art or
a science? The answer is: both.
At its core, architecture is the process of
creating functional spaces that meet the needs
of the people who will use them. But what sets
architecture apart from other disciplines that
deal with function is its attention to form. An
architect doesn’t just design buildings; they
create experiences.
The case for civil engineering:
functionality, practicality, etc.
The case for civil engineering is clear. It is
the engineers who design and oversee the
construction of the infrastructure that we all rely
on every day. From bridges and tunnels to roads
and railways, civil engineers are responsible for
making sure that our built environment is safe
and functional.
While architects may be more concerned with
the aesthetics of a project, civil engineers are
focused on making sure that it is practical and
safe. They use their expertise in mathematics
and physics to design structures that can
withstand the forces of nature and the weight of
traffic.
In recent years, there has been an increased
focus on sustainable design in the engineering
community. Civil engineers are working to find
ways to reduce the environmental impact of our
built infrastructure. By using materials that are
more environmentally friendly and designing
structures that use less energy, they are helping
to make our world a more sustainable place.
The two disciplines are not mutually
exclusive: Architecture vs Civil
engineering
There is a common misconception that architects
and civil engineers are in competition with each
other, but the truth is that these two disciplines
are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they often
work together to design and build the world
around us.
Architects are responsible for the aesthetic
design of a structure, as well as its function.
They take into account the needs of the people
who will be using the space and create a layout
that is both practical and visually appealing.
Civil engineers, on the other hand, focus on the
structural integrity of a building. They make sure
that it can support the weight of the materials
used and withstand external forces like wind
and earthquakes.
Both architects and civil engineers are essential
in the construction process. Without one or the
other, our buildings would either collapse or be
too ugly to look at!
The need for both: Architecture vs
Civil Engineering
There is a common misconception that
architects and civil engineers are one and
the same. Although both professions deal
with the design and construction of buildings,
there are distinct differences between the two.
Architects are responsible for the aesthetic
design of a structure, while civil engineers focus
on the practical aspects such as the stability,
functionality, and construction of a project.
Both professions are essential in the building
process. An architect may have a vision for an
aesthetically pleasing structure, but without the
expertise of a civil engineer, that vision may
not be possible to execute. Conversely, a civil
engineer may be able to come up with a stable
and functional design, but without an architect’s
touch, it may not be visually appealing.
The need for both architects and civil engineers
highlights the importance of collaboration in the
construction industry.
The Builder’s Battle: Architecture vs
Civil Engineering
There is a lot of debate in the world of builders
about which profession is better, architecture
or civil engineering. Architecture is the art and
science of designing and constructing buildings,
while civil engineering is the profession that deals
with the design, construction, and maintenance
of infrastructure projects like roads, bridges,
and dams. Both professions are essential to the
built environment, but they have different focus
areas.
Architects are concerned with the aesthetic
design of buildings, as well as their function.
They take into account things like a building’s
appearance, its impact on the surrounding
environment, and how it will be used by people.
Architects also need to be creative in order to
come up with innovative solutions to problems.
Civil engineers, on the other hand, are more
focused on making sure that infrastructure
projects are safe and efficient. In addition to
designing projects, they also make sure that
projects meet government regulations and
standards.
Education Requirements: Architects
vs Civil Engineers
Education Requirements for Architects
There are many different paths that one can take
to become an architect. The most common route
is to earn a professional degree in architecture,
which typically takes five years. Many architects
also have a master’s degree in architecture,
which can add an additional two to three years
of study.
In order to practice architecture, one must be
licensed by the state in which they wish to work.
To obtain a license, architects must complete a
rigorous education and training process, which
includes passing the Architect Registration
Examination.
The education requirements for architects vary
by state, but all states require completion of an
accredited professional degree in architecture
and passage of the ARE. Some states also
have experience requirements that must be met
before taking the ARE. Once licensed, architects
must maintain their license through continuing
education credits.
Education Requirements of Civil
Engineers
When it comes to the education requirements of
civil engineers, there is a lot of debate between
architecture and civil engineering. Some believe
that a civil engineer should have a degree in
civil engineering, while others believe that an
architect should have a degree in architecture.
There are many different opinions on this matter,
but the bottom line is that both professions require
a lot of education and training. A civil engineer
needs to have a strong understanding of math
and physics, as well as being able to design
and construct buildings and other structures. An
architect needs to be creative and have a good
eye for detail, as well as being able to plan and
oversee the construction of buildings.

So, which profession is better suited for someone
with a degree in architecture or civil engineering?
That really depends on the person’s strengths
and interests.
The Winner is...: who takes the title?
When it comes to the title of “The Winner
is… who takes the title?”, there can be a few
different interpretations of architecture vs civil
engineering. These two professions are often
considered to be at odds with each other, but
which one is really the winner?
There are a few key differences between these
two professions. Architects are responsible for
the design of buildings, while civil engineers
are responsible for the construction and
maintenance of infrastructure. This means that
architects are more focused on the aesthetics of
a project, while civil engineers are more focused
on functionality.
So, who is the real winner in this battle? It
depends on what you value more – beauty or
function, safety or peace of mind, physical or
mental work, office or at the site. If you prefer
Function over Form, then it’s clear that civil
engineering is the superior profession.
Here are the data for you to decide who
is the clear winner of architecture vs civil
engineering
• Job Outlook: Civil Engineering wins
• Salary: Civil Engineering wins
• Education: Tie
• Experience: Tie
• Work-Life Balance: Architecture wins
• Low Work Stress: Architecture wins
Engineering Your Future: How to Choose
Between Architecture and Civil Engineering
When it comes to choosing between a career
in architecture or civil engineering, it can be
difficult to decide which one is right for you.
Both disciplines are essential in the construction
industry, but they each have their own unique
set of skills and knowledge.
Architects are responsible for the design of
buildings and other structures. They must have
a strong understanding of aesthetics and be
able to create designs that are both functional
and visually appealing. Architects also need to
be good at problem-solving, as they often have
to find creative solutions to challenges that arise
during the construction process.
Civil engineers, on the other hand, are
responsible for the planning and construction of
infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges,
and sewer systems. They need to have a strong
understanding of mathematics and physics, as
well as be skilled in project management.
Final Thoughts: Architecture vs Civil
Engineering
In conclusion, it is clear that architecture and civil
engineering are both important fields. They both
require a lot of careful planning and attention
to detail. However, it is also clear that they are
quite different. Architecture is more focused
on the aesthetic design of structures, while
civil engineering is more focused on the actual
construction and stability of those structures.
In conclusion, both architecture and civil
engineering are important disciplines that
contribute to the built environment. They both
require a high level of education and training,
and both offer exciting and challenging
career opportunities. However, they are
different disciplines with different focus areas.
Architecture focuses on the design of buildings
and other structures, while civil engineering
focuses on the planning, design, construction,
and maintenance of infrastructure.

An Employee Was Injured
Onsite, Now What?
Imagine walking into work and seeing one of your worst nightmares unfolding in front
of your eyes: one of your employees is injured, and it looks serious. As the business
owner, you spring into action, ensuring that an ambulance has been called and that
all other employees are safe. After the chaos dies down, you’re left to wonder—
what happens next?
To prepare for such scenarios, employers should learn more about the workers comp
settlement process and the specific provisions of their workers’ comp insurance
policy.
Breaking Down Workers’ Comp Coverage
This form of insurance is required for businesses in every U.S. state besides Texas.
Depending on where your company operates, you may have the option to purchase
a policy from a private insurance provider. Some states, however, require companies
to invest in coverage from a state fund.
72
When workplace incidents occur, workers’ comp covers the
following:
• Medical expenses related to a workplace injury or illness
• A portion of the wages lost by the employee due to their injury and recovery time
• Compensation for any permanent injuries
• The cost of retraining
• In the case of a workplace fatality, benefits to their survivors
• Some policies may also cover the employer’s legal fees or a portion of settlement
should the employee reject the workers’ comp compensation package.
After a workplace injury occurs and the injured employee has received care, the
compensation process begins:
Step 1: The Employee Files a Claim
If an onsite or work-related accident results in an injury, the injured employee must
report it to their employer.
Once the employer is informed about the injury or illness, the employee has suffered,
they will issue the appropriate forms. The paperwork includes forms that will be issued to
the company’s insurance provider and the state’s compensation board. The documents
also include information about the employee’s rights and the benefits the compensation
provides.

S T O R I E S
Under what circumstances can an employee file a claim? For a worker to claim compensation
under this coverage, the following criteria must be met:
• The worker in question is an employee of the company, not a hired contractor.
• The injury or illness in question was suffered while on duty. The activity taking place when
the injury occurred must be clearly within the scope of their work-related tasks. These can
be activities that were being done offsite.
• The employer must have a workers’ comp policy.
Step 2: The Insurance Provider Responds
Once the paperwork is completed, the forms, along with a medical report from the employee’s
doctor, are sent to the insurance provider. Based on the information provided, the insurer
will decide whether to honor the claim or deny it. If a claim is denied, the employee can
pursue an appeal.
Each state has a different policy for how workers’ comp benefits are calculated. In general,
the compensation packages include payment for:
• Temporary total disability
• Temporary partial disability
• Permanent disability
• Reimbursement of medical expenses
Step 3: The Employee Accepts or Rejects the Insurance Offer
In most cases, the injured employee will accept the compensation package offered by the
insurance provider. However, if an employee feels that the compensation is inadequate,
they have the right to pursue a settlement from the employer. Their options include:
• Accepting the compensation offer as-is
• Negotiating a more substantial structured compensation- If the employee feels the value
of the compensation package offered will not adequately cover their medical care or their
loss of income, they can attempt to negotiate a payment plan with the employer.
• Negotiating a lump sum payoff- The employee can choose to pursue a one-off settlement
with the employer. This lump sum would include an estimation of total medical expenses
and disability payments.
If the two parties formally agree on a deal, the case is closed and cannot be revisited.
Protection for You, and Your Employees
Workplace injuries are unfortunate and difficult to deal with; however, they are not uncommon.
While you may not want to think of this reality, as an employer, it’s your responsibility to
prevent workplace injury, provide workers’ comp coverage, and to respond appropriately
should an accident occur.
Fortunately, workers’ compensation insurance provides a clear path forward when injuries
happen. The design of workers’ comp coverage is twofold: it protects employees by
guaranteeing compensation and care, and it protects employers from financial ruin should
a costly accident arise.
To secure the well-being of your business and employees, be sure to regularly review your
workers’ comp policy and consider an upgrade.

Engineering Careers:
Coping with On the Job
Travel
For professional engineers, visiting all sorts of sites and locations worldwide can
be a regular fixture of their job. In fact, some end up spending so much time away
from home that they abandon having a central base of actions altogether. However,
as anyone that is regularly away from home will tell you, on the job travel can be
draining. The good news is that there are some smart tactics you can use to make the
experience go as smoothly as possible. Therefore, ensuring you are well-rested enough to
supply the accuracy and good judgment that working as an engineer requires.
Choose a carry on only.
It may seem simple, but opting to cake just a carry on can save you a great deal of time
and hassle when travelling by plane for work. In fact, it means that you don’t have to check
in your luggage beforehand. Also, you won’t have to suffer through the long wait until the
80
baggage carousel springs into motion once your flight is over. Therefore allowing you to meet
your clients or make your transport link to the sites on which you will be working much more
quickly and efficiently.
<iframe width=”560” height=”315” src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/OabjhyvBe6w”
frameborder=”0” allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-inpicture”
allowfullscreen></iframe>
You can also be sure that any valuable equipment or necessary plans and blueprints that you
are carrying are safe. After all, apart from a brief jaunt through the x-ray machine will remain
with you at all times.
Stay organised and in contact.
Next, if you find yourself travelling from one location to the next, it can be tough to stay in
contact with your clients and customers. Not to mention your nearest and dearest. In fact,
combine this with a situation where a client needs to send physical documents, and you can
have a real problem if you have no single physical base of operations.
Luckily, there is a tactic that you can use to work around such an issue. Is it to use a service
like the one physicaladdress offers. This is because it allows real-life mail to be sent to one
professional address. Then the contents are digitally scanned and forwarded to you online.
This means that no matter where your engineering work takes you, you can be sure you won’t
miss any critical client correspondence. In turn, that means you won’t have to deal with the
delay in projects that this can cause, either.
Opt for an upgrade where possible.
When it comes to engineering as a career, to operate effectively, you must be well-rested
enough to be accurate in your measurements and calculations. You also need to be alert
enough to truly hear what your client is saying to you concerning the problems you need to
solve.
Of course, being stuck on a cramped, a noisy, long haul flight isn’t conducive to these states in
any way. That is why, wherever possible, it’s best to upgrade to business class. At least then,
you will have the facilities to hand that you need to get a decent rest. Thus allowing you to be
on top of your game, as you touch down in your next location.

5 Tips for When You
Marry Military Engineer
Marrying someone in the military
means making sacrifices that a
traditional married person might
not have to make. That might
mean moving around a lot and being home
by yourself or with the children for months
at a time. Finding ways to cope with being a
military engineer spouse can help make the
transition from civilian life a little bit easier.
Here are five tips to take into consideration
when you marry someone in the military.
1. Learn to Cope During
Deployment Periods
You may have to go months without seeing
your spouse during deployment, so consider
how you’ll manage your home, bills and other
responsibilities on your own. You might be
living far away from your family, so you’ll have
to get used to doing things on your own, such
as cleaning the house, doing the laundry and
taking care of the children. On the plus side,
you’ll be able to enjoy military benefits, such
as military engineer pay, military engineer
spouse and family healthcare, a basic
allowance for housing (BAH), recreation
benefits and childcare benefits.
2. Get Used to Moving Around
It’s a well-known fact that military families
often move around a lot, which can be quite
a challenge, especially if you have children.
84
You’ll have to deal with helping them transition
from school to school and making new friends
all over again. You might get homesick when
moving to a new place, but on the positive
side of things, you’ll get to experience
different parts of the country (or maybe even
the world), which could mean you’ll always
have an interesting story to tell. Try to find the
silver lining and keep an open mind whenever
you move to a new place.
3. Find the Right Insurance
Coverage
The last thing you want is to break down on the
side of the road when your spouse and family
are miles away and can’t do anything to help
you, especially if you have your little ones in
the car with you. That’s why finding the right
insurance coverage is of utmost importance.
With USAA, you’ll get a comprehensive auto
insurance policy that saves you hundreds
of dollars each year compared to other
providers. You’ll also get accident forgiveness
and plenty of options based on your vehicle
and your driving record. You can also bundle
your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance to
save up to 10 percent.
4. Get Help Raising Your Family
Raising children in the military is different than
raising children in civilian life. You’ll have to
explain why your spouse is gone so often,
which might not be easy, depending on how
old your children are. You’ll also have the bulk
of parental responsibilities. Not to mention,
you’ll also have to deal with disciplining them
on your own and making sure their emotional
needs are met. You’ll be responsible for
teaching your children right from wrong and
how to care for themselves as they grow. All of
this can be overwhelming, especially during
deployment when the sole responsibility falls
in your lap. Get the help you need from family
members (if possible) or outside help from a
nanny using your military engineer benefits.
5. Continue to Pursue Your Own
Interests
Make time to get out and meet new people,
because being a military engineer spouse can
be lonely sometimes. Find your own interests
and hobbies to pursue so that you don’t
spend all of your time waiting for your spouse
to get back. It’s perfectly okay to have a life
of your own while your spouse is deployed.
Whether you decide to join a book club, learn
to play an instrument, take a writing class or
join an improv class, you can find something
that interests you outside of your marriage.
Get someone to watch the children at least
once a week so that you can take some time
for yourself to do what you enjoy doing.
Adjusting to Life as a Military
Engineer Spouse
Marrying someone in the military doesn’t mean
you’ll always be alone. It just means making
certain life adjustments. You’ll get to make
new friends all over the world, learn about
different cultures and enjoy all of the benefits
that come with being a military spouse. You’ll
also learn to be more independent and be
more inclined to pursue outside interests.
Marrying military also means finding ways to
care for and protect your loved ones, whether
that means hiring help or finding the right auto
insurance.

What is Operational
Definition
If you’re someone who is constantly working in quantifying different kinds of data, then
you’re going to want to know what operational definition is.
In essence, when the phrase “operational definition” is used in terms of data, it refers to a
concise and thorough definition of the measurement. To better explain this, it means that all
parts of your data collection will be explicitly explained.
Operational definition can be used for collecting a wide variety of data points and it can be
essential for knowing the true metrics of the data points. Operational definition can be most
usefill when there is a dispute after the data is collected about whether or not all of the data
points were collected correctly. It can even be used for visual data points and it can help with
visual checks if multiple data collectors are arguing about any points of confusion.
Operational definition is most helpful when it is fully outlined before any of the data collection
begins. Then there will be no confusion amongst team members about what data points
count for what.
When Can Operational Definition Be Used?
Operational definition can be used almost anytime that data is going to be collected. It will
save researchers a significant amount of time in the long run since everyone will be on the
88
same page from the very beginning. It will also ensure that the results that come back from all of
the tests are accurate.
It is extremely important that the operational definition be as detailed as possible because everyone
has a different perception of the world, including each of your researchers. To avoid confusion,
you’ll want to make the instructions as detailed as humanly possible.
There are six key points to include in your operational definition to ensure that your instructions
are clear.
Steps To Create the Perfect Operational Definition
1) Determine What the Test Is Revolving Around
Your team will need to know what characteristic is being measured.
2) Select Your Measuring Instrument
The measuring instrument that you choose can be something physical such as a scale to measure
weight or a clock to determine the amount of time that has passed. However, the measuring
instrument can also be a visual test. If you’re ever going to use eyesight as the measuring tool of
choice, you’ll want to express if normal eyesight will work or if a magnifying glass will be needed
as well.
3) Explicitly Explain The Testing Method
This is the part where the actual test will be explained in depth so your researchers are fully aware
of what is going on. You’ll want to explain what measurements the tests are taking place in as well.
4) State How Decisions Should Be Made
Tell all of your researchers what they should be determining at the end of the test and how they
should be determining it. If this isn’t clearly defined, then the test won’t bring about accurate results.
5) Check That Your Researchers Understand The Operational Definition
Once you have all the other metrics in place, check with your researchers to make sure that they
understand all of the metrics as they should be taking place.

Brown Work Boots Online
Work boots have been used for ages by various professionals mainly, outdoor
workers, laborers and farmers. Though the markets today are flooded with fancy
options, classic sturdy work boots have their takers. A good pair of boots is a
must-have for every stylish man. These stylish and versatile boots can be paired
with your semi-casual as well as casual wardrobe. If you’re looking for a comfortable pair of
shoes that’ll work well for an outdoor job and also look classy when dressed up, we’ve got you
covered. You can buy brown work boots online here.
Functional work boots today are not only used for outdoor work but can be paired with jeans and
a T-shirt for a casual look. To pick out your favorite pair of work boots, follow these suggestions
given below.
Tips on Choosing the Right Durable Brown Work Boots Online
1. Types of Work Boots: You can choose from the main types of work boots; lace up and pull
on work boots. Lace up boots give more support to the feet and the fit can be adjusted through
the lace. Pull on boots don’t have laces and are mostly waterproof. They are used by outdoor
workers like welders, construction workers and firefighters.
2. Good Quality: Since work boots never go out of style, buying a good quality and durable
pair of work boots can be a good investment. While choosing, look for the material of its
composition. Leather boots are extremely durable and since they tend to take on the shape
92
of your feet, they are very comfortable too. For
best quality, go for the full grain leather boots.
These can be identified by their grainy, rugged
texture. Full grain leather is stronger and is likely
to last you for years to come. The craftsmanship
is another important factor that determines the
quality of boots. A well-crafted pair of shoes
tend to last longer.
3. Check the Soles: While buying work boots,
ensure that your shoes are well cushioned and
your feet are pain-free as you work through your
day. Look for cement constructed boots for
improved shelf life. Most work boots come with
replaceable insoles. A good arch supporting
insole not only keeps you comfortable but also
protects you from knee and joint pains. Outdoor
workers should opt for slip resistant soles to
avoid slipping in work areas.
4. Look out for the safety features: Given that
work boots are mostly worn by men who work
outdoors like engineers on a construction site,
most of them come with various safety features
like steel caps to provide safety. Features like
an anti-slip sole, water resistance and electric
shock resistance are some of the sought-after
features to look out. Choose a pair that provides
good protection to your feet.
5. Comfort: Comfort is one of the most important
things to look for, while buying work boots. Since
work boots may take a while to break in and fit
smoothly, to ensure maximum comfort, find a
work boot that fits you well. To buy the correct
fit online, measure your foot size in centimeters
and then match it to the size chart. In case, one
foot of yours is slightly bigger than the other, go
for the larger foot size. For a comfortable fit, the
toe cap should fit well and your arches should
be comfortable. Lace boots provide better foot
support and are easily adjustable.
Styling your Work Boots
Once worn primarily by workers, these chunky
boots have been fashionably adopted by
suave, fashion forward men. Most work boots
are versatile and can be styled in various ways.
Pair your tan work boots with heavy selvedge
denim for a casual look. Since these boots are
masculine, they go well with military inspired
jackets, flannel shirts and jumpers. Work boots
have a rugged look and shouldn’t be paired with
formals like formal trousers.
Conclusion
A good pair of work boots is durable and can
be used for ages. While buying a new pair,
look out for the quality of the material and its
craftsmanship to ensure you buy pair that stays.
Since work boots often take a while to break in,
it’s advisable to wear thick socks with it to avoid
discomfort and blisters. As work boots are low
maintenance, they just require cleaning once
in a while. When dirty, dust them off with a dry
piece of cloth.
Finally, if you plan to buy durable work boots
online, don’t just go for what looks good.
Additionally, make sure you know the material
composition, the type of sole, the safety features
and most importantly it fits you well!

Top 5 Things to Do
After an Accident
The aftermath of a car accident ranges from emotional to outright traumatic.
There’s a lot of adrenaline flowing, and that’s true even if no one is seriously
hurt. That’s why you need to know now what to do if you’re in a car wreck.
Here are the top 5 things to do after an auto accident. We’ll also explain
why these actions matter so much.
Check for Injuries
Once you’ve stopped, start checking yourself and others for injuries. If it is safe
to do so, check those in the other car for injuries. If anyone is seriously injured,
call 911 and request an ambulance. If it is necessary, you may need to get to
safety. For example, a car that’s been thrown into ongoing traffic may get hit
again. If you can, move the car out of the way of oncoming vehicles. However,
that’s a lower priority than taking care of anyone who is hurt.

Document As Much As Possible Yourself
Don’t leave everything in the hands of the police. Take pictures of your car
from all sides. Take pictures of their car, as well. Don’t forget to get a picture
of their license plate in case they give you false information or are driving
someone else’s car. Take a picture of their driver’s license and insurance card,
because this is probably more accurate than hand-written notes. Capture the
current road conditions, in case this is relevant to determining fault later. Take
pictures of cross-streets to prove where you were. Ask everyone involved for
their contact information, in case you need them to make witness statements
later.
A side benefit of documenting all of this yourself is that it ensures you have
this information in case the other person leaves before a police report can be
made.
Call the Police
In some states, you’re required to report any accident, including fender benders,
to the police. This allows them to fill out an accident report and document the
scene. In the rest of the country, you want the police report so that you have a
neutral third party account of the accident. Furthermore, only a police officer
can prove one of the parties is drunk or otherwise in violation of the law. If
the police decide not to come out, you’ve already documented as much as
possible.
Wait for Help
Always wait until everyone’s needs have been tended to. Do not leave after
calling for an ambulance. You’re legally required to stay until first responders
have arrived take care of the injured. If you have asked police to come out, you
can’t leave even if you think you’re not at fault.
When the police arrive, get their names and badge numbers. Try to get a copy
of the police report. If that’s not possible, find out the police report number.
Your insurance company may ask for that information when you file the claim.
Notify Your Insurer
Notifying your insurer is among the last things to do after an accident. You
could call them while you’re at the accident scene. They may be able to tell
you what information they need to speed up the claims process. Or they could
explain the claims process to you. This could help you pass the time while
waiting for help to arrive.
