At the start of the new academic year 2022-23, we welcomed a number of new Primary and
Secondary teachers. By way of introduction to the school community, we asked them to share with
us their desert island discs; special songs that they would take with them if stranded on a desert
island! Why not get to know our new teachers better, by listening to their recommended tracks that
help them to ‘focus on the good’!
Colours of the Wind, Judy Kuhn
This song is actually one of the soundtracks from the
Disney movie ‘Pocahontas’. I know about the song
from many other cover versions! Both the melody and
lyrics of the song are amazing! It’s about appreciating
nature. It might give us a positive mindset especially
when we are stranded on a desert island!
Circle of Life (Theme song of “Lion King”),
Elton John
It brings the imagery of sunrise on the African Safari, which
gives me joy. This beautiful song celebrates life and sparks
hope, just as the lyrics says, “through despair and hope, through
faith and love, … on the path unwinding in the circle of life.”
That’s the Power, Hillsong Worship
This song with wonderful lyrics and melody just simply
goes straight to my soul. It heals me whenever I feel
overwhelmed and upset. It also reminds us that we can
put our hope in God when we feel hopeless. This song
is highly recommended!
Another Day of Sun (Theme song of “La La
Land”)
This is the song from the opening dance scene of one of my
favourite musical movies. People of all cultures and races sing
and dance about their aspirations to achieve their dreams. A very
upbeat song that always lifts my spirit.
Outsider Rodeo, Raise a Suilen
For those of us who think they don't fit in and for those of us who lack self-confidence. "
You are perfect from the day you are born." Don't give in to the negativity and slander from
others. Stand tall, be proud of your own strengths, and strive to improve your
shortcomings.
In Case You Don't Live Forever, Ben Platt
Everyone has a special someone, may it be your mentor, your family or your friend. Live in
the moment, cherish those that are close to you. In case they don't live forever, tell them
the truth. Because you are everything that you are because of them, that pieces of you are
pieces of them.
