Choosing a Transfer Plan and a Career<br />

Before deciding on a program and career, you need to know your interests, abilities,<br />

and strengths. Choosing the correct transfer plan to help move on to a bachelor’s degree<br />

and career is very important to your success at Broward College. The Career Center has<br />

different self-assessment tools that can help you with your search.<br />

Career Insight allows you to complete a career assessment, but also allows you the<br />

opportunity to access real-time, current job demand in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami<br />

Dade counties, career-specific salary projections, and Broward College’s related degree<br />

programs.<br />

FOCUS Assessment contains personality, work interest, skills assessments, job tasks, an<br />

overview of work conditions and environment, education requirements and professional<br />

associations.<br />

Virtual Job Shadow allows you to explore hundreds of career videos.<br />

Once you have a transfer plan in mind, the next step is to explore your options.<br />

Connecting a transfer plan to a job title can be done by exploring Match Careers to<br />

Majors and/or Career Ladders. Career exploration is a very important step and there<br />

are several resources that can provide you with additional information. Visit the Career<br />

Center to learn more about available services to assist with your educational and career<br />

goal.<br />

Degrees and Programs at Broward College<br />

Associate of Arts Degree (AA): Complete this 60-credit hour degree in as little as two<br />

years (as a full-time <strong>student</strong>) and you will be guaranteed transfer into one of Florida’s<br />

four-year public universities. Please note that it may not be your preferred university and<br />

limited access programs require a separate admissions process. See an academic advisor<br />

to create your academic plan and receive additional university transfer information<br />

including lower level prerequisites for your intended major.<br />

Associate of Science Degrees (AS): Complete a 60-88 credit hour degree, dependent<br />

upon the program, in as little as two years (as a full-time <strong>student</strong>) of specialized training,<br />

designed to allow you to enter the workforce in a high-demand career with marketable<br />

job skills. You may also choose to continue your education by transferring to a Broward<br />

College bachelor’s program to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), Bachelor of<br />

Science (BS), or Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) degree. To maximize the transfer of<br />

credits, <strong>student</strong>s are encouraged to pursue a bachelor’s program that is closely aligned<br />

to their earned AS degree.<br />

Associate of Applied Science Degrees (AAS): Complete a 66-74 credit hour degree,<br />

dependent upon the program, in as little as two years (as a full-time <strong>student</strong>) of<br />
