APPROVED 08/18/2022 A LETTER FROM THE CFO To our Regents, “Be bold? Or be safe?” These were the options considered by TSTC’s leadership team as it weighed the College’s commitments for the next five years. Our varying instincts forced us to wrestle with our response. Fortunately, we’ve spent much time in recent years (including periodic sessions with you) contemplating this moment. A year ago, we reflected on the history of this administration, considered the pandemic impact and imagined our place in a post-COVID world. Since then, we’ve researched changing expectations, assessed rapidly emerging opportunities, and evaluated the strengths of ourselves and our competitors. With major disruptions, such as those ushered in by the pandemic, opportunists and market leaders respond in a way that accelerates them into a new future. TSTC did not miss out on that opportunity. We seized the moment and innovated towards a new normal. It is clear to the team. TSTC’s opportunity to grow as a market leader is right in front of us. This window of opportunity will not remain open forever. This growth will not merely be the result of choosing a path. This success will only be realized as a result of bold commitment, disciplined execution, and accountability to higher levels of growth and change. So, what’s the answer to our question? It’s unanimous. We must be bold. TSTC will bet on itself. We will execute at a level we’ve never seen before. Texans, especially students and industry, will see us as a different kind of institution, in compelling ways. We will be better than the rest, accountable to Texas industry as its premier workforce provider. The leadership team looks forward to sharing our plans and the related budget proposal as we accelerate into our future together.
