Welcome to Brereton CE Primary
Here at Brereton CE Primary School, we are proud to provide excellent education for
children from four to eleven years old in our unique Christian setting. Our Christian
Values are at the heart of all we do and we serve to provide all who come here with
the opportunity to celebrate their abilities and achievements, whilst tackling new
challenges and experiences together.
We hope that this prospectus provides you with all of the information you need. Please
visit our school website, www.breretonprimary.org.uk, where you can find out more
CDAT
Brereton CE Primary School is proud to be
part of the Chester Dioecian Academy Trust.
This allows us to work with schools and
colleagues across Cheshire, the Wirral and
Stockport. CDAT seeks to provide the very best
education for every child in it’s schools so that
they succeed and are well prepared to move
onto their next phase of education.

“Through special themed days and the topic-based curriculum, pupils learn
about different ways of life and historical events which have shaped our
Culture. As a result, they are able to identify and challenge stereotypical
views confidently and maturely.”
SIAMS 2018

Our Curriculum
Reflective ∞ Aspirational ∞ Relevant
We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that gives children opportunities to develop
lively, enquiring minds in order to explore, understand and explain the world. Importance is placed
on children’s happiness and positive relationships as this contributes to mutual respect, trust and
consideration.
Children learn in a variety of ways depending upon their age and stage of development. At
Brereton, they experience being taught as members of a whole class, a small group and individually.
Purposeful activities are planned to match their learning needs, abilities, interests and experience in
order to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of new concepts.
The curriculum includes every aspect of school life, from the taught subjects to the everyday
opportunities and experiences given to children. Our curriculum is specifically designed for our pupils.
Progression and continuity is ensured through a whole school approach to planning. A curriculum
map provides an overview of the themes covered in each subject area from Reception to Y6. Children
are fully immersed in a topic in order to make learning meaningful and memorable.

Religious Education
The Christian values of tolerance, forgiveness and
service are central to the purpose, ethos and
atmosphere of the school. We seek to support, extend
and clarify children’s faith by sharing the Gospel
teachings of Christ and bringing children to a deeper
understanding of the love of God.
Our close links with St Oswald’s Parish Church enable us to
participate in church festivals and the main celebrations of
the Christian calendar.
“Provision for pupils’ spiritual development and emotional well-being is extremely
well-considered. RE and collective worship make very substantial contributions to pupils’
spiritual growth.”
SIAMS 2018
Worship
We come together to worship everyday. We reflect on
stories and messages from the Bible and consider how
these can help us to live our lives. Reverend Sandi leads
worship in school once a week and classes also attend services
at St Oswald’s church.
PSHE and Mental Health
We place great importance on developing children’s personal and social skills and ensuring that we
support them in developing their emotional intelligence. We want children to feel secure in themselves
and have the confidence and resilience to deal with any challenges that they face. We deliver PSHE
lessons weekly and we promote positive mental health at all times.
We also want our pupils to be understanding and accepting of other peoples views, beliefs and backgrounds.
We use the programme No Outsiders to promote tolerance and acceptance.

Parental Engagement
Parents are their child’s first and most enduring educators. We are committed to working in
partnership with parents and building on the foundations laid at home. Our aim is to develop a
mutually supportive relationship between home and school that enables children to grow
intellectually, socially and emotionally within the security and stability of our environment. We
therefore ensure that parents are as fully involved and informed as possible about their children’s
progress through the following means:

Open Door Policy
Your child’s well-being is our primary concern.
Should you ever have any worries or concerns
we would want parents to speak to us as soon as
possible. A problem can often be quickly resolved!

Trips
Educational visits are arranged to enhance
our Curriculum and make learning
memorable.
A few of our favourite venues are:
• Reaseheath Zoo
• Ford Green Hall
• Blists Hill
• Chester Cathedral
• Peak Wildlife Park
• Trentham Gardens
• Delamere Forest
• Slavery museum, Liverpool
• Nantwich museum
Residentials
In Year 2, the children spend one night at Tattenhall
Residential Centre, where they build dens, toast
marshmallows and complete a range of outdoor games
and activities.
In Year 4, we travel to York to learn all about the
Vikings. We visit the Yorvik Centre, the Museum of
Farming and York Minster.
Finally, in Year 6, we visit Pensarn Harbour. Here,
the children push themselves to try new activities and
experiences, such as abseiling, gorge walking and
kayaking.
We believe our children gain a great deal from
these experiences and it is always a privilege to
take them.

Pastoral Care
We share responsibility with parents for
the children in our care and, as such,
expect children to behave with courtesy,
respect and consideration towards others
and the environment. We believe that
children learn to manage their own
behaviour through praise, encouragement,
reward and good role models. Our aim is
for all children to ‘love one another.’
"Leaders have thought carefully about the curriculum. It is ambitious
for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities
(SEND)."
Ofsted 2022

“"Parents and carers are incredibly positive about the work of school leaders.
Many parents praised the high levels of care that their children receive from staff."
"Pupils are very clear about leaders’ high expectations. Pupils work hard in class.
They listen attentively to their teachers.
This helps them achieve well. Throughout school, pupils are polite and behave well."
Ofsted 2022
Inclusion
Here at Brereton we want all children to ‘love learning’ and for their efforts and
achievements to be celebrated. We encourage children to see themselves as confident
and capable. Accordingly, we recognise and provide for a range of Special
Educational Needs by identifying and addressing them at the earliest opportunity. We
actively involve parents and any external support agencies necessary in order to meet
children’s needs. Parents who have any concerns about their child’s needs are
encouraged to contact the class teacher.

Homework
Safeguarding
Homework from school is seen as a means of
promoting a positive attitude to learning and
involving parents more closely in the learning
process.
Teachers plan and set To weekly Order homework Call: tasks
that support what your child has learnt in class.
We encourage parents to work with their
children on homework tasks to promote
discussion, deepen understanding and consolidate
learning.
Quality family time is essential and beneficial.
The completion of homework should not be a
source of stress and parents are encouraged to
contact the class teacher if homework cannot be
completed for any reason.
Schools are particularly well placed to
observe outward signs of abuse, changes in
behaviour or failure to develop due to the
day-today contact with children. Our
Child Protection procedures require that
any concerns of child abuse be reported to
the child’s parents and Social Services.
The child-friendly Safeguarding Policy is
available via our school website
www.breretonprimary.org.uk. The full
Safeguarding policy is available from
school upon request. You can also find
links to external sources of help on our
website.
SRE
Sex and Relationship Education is currently
taught as part of Personal, Social and Health
Education and in accordance with the
requirements of the National Curriculum for
Science. We endorse the Church of England’s
drive to ’Value all God’s Children,’ which
promotes tolerance and diversity.
Starting School
Starting school is a big step and an exciting challenge. We work in close
liaison with parents and the on-site pre-school playgroup, and operate a
programme of pre-school visits and meetings to make this a happy,
successful and rewarding experience. We also conduct home visits so we can
see your child in their familiar environment and speak to parents/carers in
private. A ‘Starting School’ meeting is held for new parents in May and
we host a new starters picnic for pupils and their families in the summer
term.
“Expectations are high. Pupils are eager to rise to the challenge, reflecting their extremely
positive attitudes to life and learning. Parents confirm that their children are extremely happy,
excited by their learning and joyful in their relationships. They are confident that this is
because every child is valued as unique, loved and supported.”
Secondary Transition
As a feeder school for Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, the majority of our
pupils go on to HCCS and succeed socially and academically. Pupils also move to
Sandbach School and Sandbach High School, as well as Congleton High School
and Alsager. Staff work hard to ensure pupils are ready for the next phase of
their education and we support successful transition for all.
Holmes Chapel Cluster
The Holmes Chapel and District Community Partnership work
together to raise horizons and enrich experiences by promoting
lifelong learning opportunities for members of our learning
community. We feel very lucky to be able to work with other local
schools to provide the best education possible. Pupils particularly
enjoy visiting Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School for various
sporting events.

Uniform
We believe that children should take a pride in both themselves and their school. A smart
school uniform gives children self-confidence, self-discipline and a sense of belonging to
something special as well as helping to develop high standards in other aspects of school
life. The uniform consists of:

Grey trousers/skirts/tunics
White shirts (long or short sleeved)
School tie
Navy blue jumper/cardigan with school logo
Sensible school shoes (no trainers)
Grey or white socks or tights
School. They said that teachers help make
learning interesting. Pupils enjoy the large school
can use at break and lunchtimes.
Global Curriculum
We are proud to promote a global curriculum. Every year group focus on one of the sustainable
Brereton Bears
Brereton Bears is our wrap around care provision, based on site.
Our mission is to provide high quality care before and after school for children from the ages of 5
years to 11 years.

We ensure every child in our care feels valued, secure and safe.
We offer fun and stimulating play activities that are child led in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
We offer play activities that are age and stage appropriate for the children in our care.
We work alongside the preschool and school to provide support for children with any needs that
are identified.
We strive to build positive relationships with parents/carers and share any information relating
to their child.
Breakfast club starts at 7:45am and the children enjoy breakfast together and play games until it is
time to go to their classrooms. After school club runs from 3pm until 6pm. Children take part in a
range of different activities, such of which are adult-led and others follow the children’s own interests.
For further details, please speak to the school office or visit our school website.
Brereton Cubs
Our Reception pupils are well cared for in our link Pre-school. This facility offers a more
age-appropriate setting and it also supports transition between pre-school and school. For more
information please speak to Sharron Edwards or visit www.breretonpreschool.co.uk.

"Pupils enjoy strong relationships with each other. They show great respect for their peers and the
adults in the school. Pupils explained that should any bullying occur, they have every confidence that
their teachers would deal with it immediately. As a result, pupils feel safe in school.”
Ofsted 2022
Brereton Pre-School
Children who attend our link pre-school receive exceptional care and an excellent transition
programme. They cater for children from aged 2 and they are often within the school, playing in
the Reception classroom, balancing on the trim trail or dancing in the school hall.
School Lunches
Lunches are prepared on the premises and are available at the cost of £2.50 per day. We offer a
multi-choice menu of freshly cooked main meals (which includes a vegetarian option) and a choice
of pudding, fresh fruit or yogurt. Side salads are also available daily. Our menu can be found on
our school website. Parents pay via the app, Parent Pay.
Packed lunches should be brought in a suitable container clearly labelled with the child’s name.
Medical Care
First Aid supplies are kept in school and minor
injuries dealt with by the staff. All of our staff
are first aid trained.
It is school policy that children must not bring
tablets, cough sweets or medicines into school. If
a child requires regular or short-term
medication that has been prescribed by a
medical practitioner, it may be administered at
school after the completion of a medication
consent form. All other non-prescribed
medication must be administered at home.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
