Edinburgh to study Biological Sciences
Our students usually study three A Levels, achieving
strong results across the spectrum, from humanities and
languages, to the creative and performing arts and STEM
subjects.
A Levels+
Remember that alongside A Levels, you will develop additional
skills and knowledge. Opportunities include the Extended
Project Qualification, GCSE courses in French, German or
Spanish, leadership experience, our Philosophy, Ethics and
Religion course and a choice of enrichment activities.
Digital Sixth Form
We will provide you with a Chromebook, with Microsoft 365,
with access to our online learning platform – to ensure you
can study independently, when and where it suits you. Use
your Chromebook to access collaborative work and to gain
essential personalised teacher guidance and feedback.
Academic Scholars
You will also find plenty of scope to challenge and extend

highly-valued by universities and employers.
GCSE to A Level
An Academic Engagement Resource full of subjectspecific
learning opportunities including: Cambridge
University Public Lectures, iTunesU resources, TED
talks, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), will
help you take the leap from GCSE to A Level study.
By completing an EPQ you can develop your creative
thinking, resilience and independent research skills, as well
as earning up to 70 UCAS points.
An EPQ is an opportunity to research a topic of your choice,

physical environment, but also by educating our
community about the importance of sustainable
development. The EAG has established
the weekly ‘ways to eco-engage’ initiative,
considering issues such as fast fashion, climate
change and microplastics.

TAKING THE LEAD
As you become more independent, you will gain responsibility –
both in your studies and in wider Sixth Form life.
In the SIxth, students lead by example, modelling our core
community values of compassion and kindness to younger girls
across our schools. Key leadership roles suit different individual
strengths and include: Head Girl, our prefect team, Music and
Games captains.
If elected to a leadership position, you will play a key role in many
activities – from helping with community outreach, to planning and
contributing to wider St Mary’s events.
If selected to join our School Council, you will gain first-hand
experience of democracy in action – discussing matters which
affect students across our school.
Using your initiative
If you have an interest or talent you would like to share … why not set
up a club or society for younger girls? Previous student-led initiatives
include MedVet Soc and clubs for Drama, Music and Politics.
Alternatively, you could co-ordinate external speakers, organising
events that enrich life in the SIxth by bringing fresh ideas and
inspiring stories from the wider world.
Encouraging enterprise
If you have a flair for business, then the Student Investor or School
Enterprise Challenges will hone your skills and you can meet likeminded
students in our Business and Economics Society. In Year 12,
aspiring accountants can enter the ‘BASE’ competition run by The
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Being a role model
As part of our mentoring scheme, you will be partnered with a
younger girl, as someone she can rely on for advice and support.
This provides a valuable insight into what it takes to be a good
mentor – a key skill for your future in employment and as a citizen.

All St Mary’s girls can now enjoy using new

Sports Ground. Developed in partnership
with Homerton College, University of
Cambridge, Long Road includes athletics
facilities for track and field, AstroTurf pitches
for hockey, rugby and football, cricket

Day and boarding girls form one big happy family in the
Sixth, with boarders joining us from around the world.
Located in a quiet, safe residential area within easy walking
distance of our schools, and set in a beautiful, threestorey
property, in leafy and extensive grounds, Mary Ward
House accommodates 90 boarders from across over 20
nationalities.
Boarders from Year 5 to 13 live together, creating a
second family, led and supported by a team of dedicated,
caring staff.
Living in Cambridge
Boarders enjoy organised activities across Cambridge
– from punting, Evensong at King’s College, Christmas
