I knew that if I gave up, I would face a
huge financial burden, and all our employees
would have to suffer the pain of
unemployment. The goals and dreams that
I wanted to achieve through the business
would die.
I decided to take massive action
instead. My desperate but effective efforts
began to overcome these terrible
conditions.
As the ‘crunch’ came, other team members
gave up on the business, but I was so
determined to make this business work,
that I did every job you can imagine, including
helping to run the factory.
We were able to convince a key
wholesaler to do business with us because
we promised them there would
be no supply disruption, and that I and
my team would do whatever was necessary
to make sure they had the supply
they needed!
At that time, the government was expanding
it’s procurement systems, and we
had acquired a special certification to be
able to fulfill their needs. We put ourselves
in the position to supply the highly customized
equipment they needed, and were
able to leverage the contract as collateral
to fund our recovery.
We focused intently on quality control
(Q/C) to prevent returns when the products
were delivered, and also introduced a job
sharing system through employee communication
and encouragement.
Because we refused to quit, and
focused on finding solutions to this crisis,
I was able to overcome the long Lehman
Brothers crisis.
MAWNews: You say
you have a different
perspective on
Taekwondo,
what is the difference?
SMK: It is currently estimated that 150
to 200 million people are sweating in Taekwondo
classes all over the world and are
passionate about Taekwondo training.
I have thought deeply about why, and I
have come to the conclusion that there are
three powers to change the world.
