NATIONAL PARK
In 1978 the first and only german alpine National Park, the National Park Berchtesgaden, a
retirement area for nature was created. Today the National Park counts a lot of other tasks
around nature conservation, research, recreation, and education. With its 250 kilometers of
hiking paths is the National Park the perfect place to hike in Bavaria. The 21.000 hectares big
nature conservation zone is an untouched stain where human does not intervene. The Alpine
National Park is also part of the UNESCO biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land. Visitors
can listen to the voices of the birds, and watch the marmots and golden eagles: the only
german alpine National Park offers hikes the whole year on different topics.
highest mountain
enjoyment of the alps
With its around 2713 meters height is
mount Watzmann the landmark of
Berchtesgaden. The east wall of mount
Watzmann is the longest climbing wall in
the east alps - a challenge for athletes
who like the extreme. Everyone can
experience the thrill of “Destiny
mountain”. Other rewarding goals are the stone sea and the plateau of the Hagengebirge -
a huge and lonely tabel landscape that breaks off to the outside with steep walls. Also,
ravines and gorges want to be conquered. With its waterfalls, the Wimbachklamm belongs to
the most beautiful ravines in the bavarian alps.
Alpine pastures in the
National Park
The National Park Berchtesgaden is more
than just a nature conservation area. On the
alpine pastures, animals are kept like in the
former centuries. And because of that rare
plants can be found on the mountain
pastures, which would not survive without
the management of the alpine pastures.
These treasures of the alps have developed
into a popular destination for hikers.
