HOUSE OF
MOUNTAINS
At the entrance to the town is located the House of Mountains, a center for information and
education. In the exhibition of Germany’s only National Park of the Alps, tourists can experience
the unique nature of the german alps from lake Köngssee to mount Watzmann. In a big room in
the center, the exhibition “Vertikale Wildnis” is located where visitors can find out more about
domestic nature. Tourists can learn everything about life from the bottom of lake Königssee to
the peaks of mount Watzmann and discover the habitats of water, forest, alpine pastures, and
rocks. Light and sound installations create a special feeling of the changing seasons. The
highlight of the exhibition is the mountain vitrine at the end of the tour with a view of mount
Watzmann. Because then the replicated nature gets connected with the real national park.

Education Centre
The Education Centre with its 4 modern
equipped rooms is perfect for groups or
school classes. In the meadow kitchen,
the water laboratory, the forestry
workshop, and the rock view can the 4
main habitats be discovered.
informative outdoor area
Even the area around the center is a place of
experience and education. Behind the
meadow, water, and forest place is in the
outdoor area the “Lahner-Kaser” located, a
historical alpine hut that was built in 1848 in
the area of mount Watzmann.
