Figure D-8 is an example of more excellent prop and prop detailing reference for<br />

interiors—most notably the lion guardians set as relief sculptures carved into the<br />

walls. The ability to start to build into <strong>game</strong> environments this kind of complex<br />

detailing is just now becoming somewhat feasible. Despite the perceived beauty in a<br />

scene like this, for the purposes of <strong>game</strong> building, there are always the ever-present<br />

performance trade-offs to consider. You need to get plenty of mileage out of most<br />

props. They must be chosen wisely.<br />

Figure D-9 shows more potential prop, detailing, and staging influence: spiked<br />

wheels, massive iron grills, chains, and suspension devices.<br />
