Nathan Crane III, a 2022 Mayville HS 

graduate, started making “posters” in his 

Graphic Communications class at the Tuscola 

ISD Tech Center because he wanted to 

combine his love of art and athletics. He 

wanted to help promote area athletes and 

explore some potential career options in that 

area. Nathan’s plan is to attend Spring Arbor 

University this fall to study graphic design and 

broadcasting. Nathan was a 5 sport athlete at 

Mayville (Football, Cross Country, Basketball, 

Track, and Baseball). We always enjoy 

covering Nathan at events because he would 

take time out to thank media members for 

being there. We invited Nathan to do a “poster” 

for our August Players of the Month. Be sure to

AKRON-FAIRGROVE’S GATLIN GUILD HELPED 

BRING ATTENTION TO THE VIKINGS LAST YEAR 

WITH HIS PERFORMANCE ON THE BASKETBALL 

COURT. GUILD’S SOPHOMORE SEASON DIDN’T 

HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT, IT WAS ACCOMPLISHED 

BY HARD WORK DURING THE OFF-SEASON. 

Guild is training hard for the upcoming football 

season. On the gridiron, he found success, with 428 

receiving yards and seven touchdowns. 

Guild has a slender build, at over six feet tall, weighing 

just 150 pounds. His goal is to be at 175 by the 

basketball season. “I’m trying to gain weight,” said 

Guild. “I’ve been lifting about three times a week 

and once practice starts, it 

will be five days a week and 

use Saturday and Sunday for 

plyometrics.” He says, “a lot of 

plyometrics because I really 

want to dunk next year.” 

He has been working with 

former Viking Evan Neff. “I 

recently connected with Evan 

Neff; he started a company 

that’s called Trust Your Work,” 

Guild said. “He reached out 

to me and asked me to do a 

journey with him. With a small 

area like Akron-Fairgrove, 

sometimes you don’t have the connections that the 

bigger schools have. I can take the work he shows 

me to my court at home.” 

In basketball, Guild averaged 18.7 ppg, 5.6 rebounds, 

4.4 assists and 3.4 steals. The performance earned 

him several accolades including honorable mention 

All-Thumb and honorable mention all-state. “I really 

want to make the All-Thumb team and first team or 

second team all-state,” he said. 

Guild also plays baseball for Akron-Fairgrove. Even 

though basketball is his main sport, he said being a 

well-rounded athlete is important. 

HARBOR BEACH’S REECE WRUBLE HAD A 

FANTASTIC FRESHMAN SPORTS CAMPAIGN. 

WRUBLE BURST ONTO THE SCENE WITH A 

SENSATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SEASON, 

FOLLOWED BY A SOLID JUNIOR VARSITY 

BASKETBALL SEASON AND CAPPED OFF BY A 

STATE FINAL EXPERIENCE IN TRACK & FIELD. 

She is working hard to build off her freshman year. In 

preparation for the cross country season, she attended 

the Grand Valley State University Cross Country Camp, 

and has been logging miles on her own. “There, I’m 

going to work on my technique 

a little more,” said Wruble. “I 

learned that the style that I run 

in, I have a very strong finish, 

which I think I can use to my 

advantage.” Wruble is hoping to 

put on muscle, as well. 

In cross country, she had a 

career-best time of 20:09.7 at 

the Wagener Park Invitational. 

She had four top five finishes, 

including fourth at the regional 

and finished 38th at the state 

finals. “I really think I can break 

into the high 19s,” Wruble said. 

“For regionals, I think I can do 

top three, and I want to get 

all-state this year.” 

In basketball, Wruble traveled to team camp, but 

expects to have another season on junior varsity. She 

hopes her training for cross country will translate to the 

basketball court. 

In track, Wruble netted four victories in the 400, with a 

career-best time of 1:04.91. She had five top five finishes 

in the 3,200 and was a state qualifier in the 3,200 relay. 

“I am going to try and go to the state finals in the 400, I 

was really disappointed 

that it didn’t happen this 

year,” Wruble said.
