Digital signature certificates (DSCs) are issued to authenticate the identity
of a certificate holder. A user's name, pin code, country, email address,
date of issuance, and certifying authority may be displayed on an electronic
sign.
Different Types Of Digital Signature Certificates
Class 1 DSC:
Businesses, individuals, and private subscribers can request a Class 1
certificate merely to verify their email address and name in the consumer
database. Generally, it is regarded as only a basic assurance that does not
have a great deal of importance.
Class 3 DSC:
A Class 3 DSC is now required for all transactions in India. An authorization
is required for individuals and organizations who wish to participate in
government tenders or online auctions. In order to receive a Class 3
certificate, applicants may be required to appear in person before their
CAs.
Class 2 DSCs will no longer be available on 1 January 2021. As per the
guidelines, the Class 3 DSC should be used for all purposes, including
income tax, PF, GST, RoC filings, and tenders. The Class 1 DSC will no
longer be used.
How the DSC Process Works?
An E-signature or DSC is created using the PKI mechanism, which
generates two keys: a public key and a private key. To decrypt information
regarding a signer's identity, the receiver must use the private key of the
signer. The user can access the private key by entering their password on
a computer or hard drive, as a token.
In order to verify the identity of the user, both the browser and the server
encrypt and decrypt information. Public keys accompany encrypted data. If
none of the keys match, authentication fails. Unauthorized access to
encrypted data is therefore impossible.
