In each of the chapters that follow we will discuss in detail the planets, thepsychic, name, and destiny numbers and the relationship between people withnumbers in like categories (e.g., psychic 1 with psychic 3, name 4 with name7, etc.). The Vedic SquareThe presence of magic squares related to the planets, known as astrologicalYantras, clearly shows that the mystic power of numbers was known inancient India. The Vedic Square is a good example of this knowledge.Nothing about the origin of the Vedic Square is known in India. The designsobtained from this square are used as decorative patterns in various palacesand shrines throughout India. Although not popular in India now, it hasplayed a significant role there in the past. Muslim artists and craftsmen aswell have used the Vedic Square to obtain many of their patterns.The book Islamic Patterns 1 contains the Vedic Square, as well as dozens offantastic designs and patterns which were obtained from it. The square itselfis a table of multiplication of numbers. Instead of using the double numbersobtained by multiplication of single numbers, they are reduced here to singlewhole numbers. For example, 7 x 6 = 42 = 6. This use of single numbersmakes the Vedic Square very unique and significant. We can see therepetition of numbers 1 to 9 very clearly (see page 19).With the exception of number 3 and number 6, each number appears in sixsquares. Numbers 3 and 6 appear in twelve squares. The number 9 is uniquein the Vedic Square—it repeats 21 times! By joining the midpoints of thesquare of any of the nine numbers, a diagram can be obtained. The bookIslamic Patterns shows how, by using these basic patterns, the craftsmen ofthe Islamic world developed intricate and beautiful patterns.These patterns can greatly assist numerologists. I use them to examine hownumbers relate to each other visually. The patterns in this book are providedas a visual aid to readers and numerologists who care to work with them. Thevisuals from the Vedic Square are purely geometric.
