The network was launched nationwide in 2020, with funding from the Ministry of Social Development. It sources leftover or unwanted fresh and healthy foods, including fruit, vegetables and protein, in bulk from food producers, manufacturers and wholesalers nationwide. It then packages and distributes these to foodbanks and community food services. The Rolleston warehouse, on Jones Rd, is the network’s new South Island distribution centre. He encouraged organisations wanting to give back to the community to be in touch. Volunteering opportunities would be available year-round. Donating time at the warehouse could help with team building and corporate responsibility, he said. “These volunteering opportunities will continue to highlight our collective responsibility towards food security and waste minimisation,” Kwon said. Wednesday July 6 2022 Selwyn Times Strong demand for village homes SUMMERSET’S Prebbleton village on Springs Rd is taking shape, which will see the 35 villas in stage one ready to be occupied by later this year. The two/three bedroom villas are priced from $680,000. Once finished there will be about 300 independent homes including a mix of villas, cottages and serviced apartments. Village sales manager Grace Hickland said demand is strong, with half of the available villas already sold. In spite of global supply chain issues and economic pressures affecting the construction industry in general, the village build has remained on track . “We’re excited by the interest in the village,” Hickland said. The club also raised over $12,000 for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Said Marunui: “We’ve always said that we don’t know how to coach rugby, but we know how to wrap our arms around them, and sort of nurture them and have them feel safe that this is their home.” • Rugby round-up, pages 20-21 • Broomhall’s new role, pages 27-28 win trips to...
