52 4. POLICE STATION DUTIES AND VERTICALS12. Drivers allotted to eachPolice Station will bepart of AdministrativeBranch. Likewise, thesubstitutes opted forthis particular duty willalso be detailed by theAdministrative Branchon rotation policy.
5THE COASTAL POLICE STATIONSThe basic objective of establishingCoastal Police Stationsin various Coastal Statesand Union Territories is toovercome the limitations ofthe State Police in termsof needed infrastructure andskilled manpower to exercisetheir policing jurisdiction effectivelyin the Territorial Waters(i.e. up to 12 nauticalmiles from the shore ) . Itmust be borne in mind thatthe Coastal Police Stationsare regular Police Stations ofthe State with full fledged jurisdictionon the TerritorialWaters off the Coast and aportion of Coastal land.5.1 POWERS1. The Officials of CoastalPolice Stations shall exerciseall Police powersconferred on themvide Criminal laws ofthe land,eg.(a) IPC 1860(b) CrPC 1973(c) Indian EvidenceAct, 1872(d) Indian PassportsAct 1967(e) The ForeignersAct, 1946(f) Indian Arms Act,1959(g) Indian ExplosiveAct,1884(h) Explosive SubstancesAct 1908(i) Inland Steam VesselsAct 1917(j) Indian FisheriesAct 1897(k) Maritime Zones ofIndia Act 1981(l) Unlawful ActivitiesPrevention Act1967 and(m) various other existingLaws, Codesand Enactments,including the Specialand LocalLaws.2. Police Officers of theseCoastal Police Stationsshall exercise all Policepowers to enter, inspect,search, seize and examineany place, carriageor vessel aboutwhose association/ involvementwith somesuspects, criminals, illicitexplosives, arms,ammunition or contraband,credible informationhas been receivedand to take legal actionaccording to the law.535.2 Duties of theCoastal PoliceCoastal Police Station has jurisdictionthat extends intothe sea upto 12 Nautical Mileswith or without landed territory.These Police Stationstherefore, have maritimecomponent besides intelligenceand investigationwings to effect better surveillanceand control over sea,coast, creeks and other waterways connected to sea.Coastal Police Station willbe engaged in policing theTerritorial Waters with a viewto enforce the criminal lawsof the country, protecting nationalinterests in such watersand providing a senseof security to the inhabitantsand other stakeholders in theCoastal areas.1. Search and seizure in respectof trawlers, vessels,fishing boats and toapprehend persons involved/ suspected to beinvolved in drug trafficking,explosives, contrabandgoods, arms andammunition, dangerousmaterials smuggling ofand trafficking in humanbeings etc in contraventionof Law in order toprevent these unlawfulactivities.
