PREFACEKerala Police working underthe motto“Mridu Bhave DhridaKruthye” (Soft in temperament,Yet firm in action)is committed to achieve thehighest level of citizen satisfaction,by striving to provideworld-class quality of PoliceServices through prompt redresselof grievances, transparentand fair enforcementof law, maintenance of orderby protecting citizen rightsand individual dignity and incessantendeavour to enhancepublic safety. “The StandardOperating Procedure for StationHouse Management” is astandard basic norm for themanagement of Police Stationsand the ideal behaviorto which every member ofthe department shall be heldaccountable. It is a focusedattempt to bring together inone exhaustive document, arecording of relevant availablelaws, circulars, best practices,resources, tools and operatingprocedures on the PoliceStation management. Thisresource document has beendeveloped in an effort to ensurethat the Police Officialhave the basic knowledge ,understanding and experiencein the Station House Managementand other relevant legislationon this field. Therefore,this SOP is a brief and quickreference material of the lawsand procedures of optimal importanceto officers working atPolice Stations. In order toachieve excellence, every Policeofficial bear the followingCode of Ethics in their mind–“As a Law EnforcementOfficer, my fundamental dutyis to serve mankind; to protectthe innocent against deception,the weak against oppressionor intimidation, andthe peaceful against violenceor disorder; and to respectthe Constitutional rights of allpersons to liberty, equality andjustice.I will keep my private lifeunsullied as an example to all;maintain courageous calm inthe face of danger, scorn orridicule; develop selfrestraint;and be constantly mindful ofthe welfare of others. Honestin thought and deed in bothmy personal and official life,I will be exemplary in obeyingthe laws of the land and theregulations of my department.Whatever I see or hear of aconfidential nature or that isconfided in me in any officialcapacity will be kept secret unlessrevelation is necessary inthe performance of my duty.I will never act officiouslyor permit personalfeelings, prejudices, animositiesor friendships to influencemy decisions. With no compromisesfor crime and withrelentless prosecution of criminals,I will enforce the lawcourteously and appropriatelywithout fear or favour, maliceor ill will, never employingunnecessary force or violenceand never accepting gratuities.I recognize the badge of myoffice as a symbol of publicfaith and I accept it as a publictrust to be held so longas I am true to the ethics ofPolice Service. I will constantlystrive to achieve theseobjectives and ideals, dedicatingmyself before God to mychosen profession - Law Enforcement.”People expectthat Police officers treat themwith respect, behave decentlyand uphold justice.
